Waiting on Wednesday...Why We Broke Up

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My pick this week is Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler, with art by Maira Kalman

Here is the Goodreads synopsis

I'm telling you why we broke up, Ed. I'm writing it in this letter, the whole truth of why it happened.

Min Green and Ed Slaterton are breaking up, so Min is writing Ed a letter and giving him a box. Inside the box is why they broke up. Two bottle caps, a movie ticket, a folded note, a box of matches, a protractor, books, a toy truck, a pair of ugly earrings, a comb from a motel room, and every other item collected over the course of a giddy, intimate, heartbreaking relationship. Item after item is illustrated and accounted for, and then the box, like a girlfriend, will be dumped.

This sounds so interesting. I've wanted to read it since Book Expo when they had a display set up. You had to write down your own "Why We Broke Up story" and could stick it to the wall. It sounds like a book that has the potential to be funny, and sweet, and maybe a little sad too.

Expected release date - Dec 27, 2011

I have decided to make this an awards free blog. I appreciate the gesture, and love that you thought of my blog, however I simply can't pass them along as required.
