Waiting On Wednesday .... Flashed

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pick is Flashed by Zoey Castile

**potential spoilers for previous books in the series**

Here is the Goodreads synopsis
When a man makes his living by his looks, he can forget that love--and lust--are more than skin deep. But the right woman can remind him ...

A former soccer player, stripper, and model, legendary party boy Patrick Halloran finally gets his big break starring in the summer blockbuster. But when an accident leaves him changed forever, he hides away in his secluded Montana ranch. Only his new housekeeper is allowed inside--with one rule: she's not allowed to see him. But Pat sees her, and she's the most stunning woman he's ever laid eyes on. Even her voice is beautiful. Still, Pat can't allow himself to get close to anyone. Not without a fight at least ...

Magdalena "Lena" Martel is a long way from Queens, New York. After a rough patch, the aspiring artist is working her way through college--even if it means keeping house for a man whose gruff voice she can only hear through a closed door. Still, Lena senses Pat's got a good heart, maybe even a lovable one. She's intrigued--until his anger sends her running into the freezing woods. Now Pat will have to find her--and when he does he may have found the one woman who can thaw his heart--not to mention the rest of him. But can their new bond survive the paparazzi--and their personal demons? ...
I love the other books in the Happy Endings series and am excited that this one is a bit of a play on Beauty and the Beast. I also loved that there were some cameos from characters in Stripped in Hired so I am looking forward to seeing who (if anyone) from the previous books show up in Flashed.

This is going to be an excellent book to send your summer reading with and I highly recommend reading the other two books in the series this summer.

For a man who makes his living pleasuring women, what happens when the only pay-out worth having is love?

Faith Abigail Charles has always done the right thing. So when her mother runs for mayor of New Orleans, Faith puts her law career on hold to help her win. But when tensions run high, Faith trades one kind of heat for another--in the arms of a hard-bodied stranger. He's everything a woman dreams of in a lover. So much so that her one-night stand turns into two, then three, then four . . .

For Aiden Rios, meeting smart, sexy Faith feels like fate. After being ditched by his client in the Big Easy, the high-paid male escort needs a little company himself. Aiden knows he'll have to come clean about his line of work, and he plans to--right after another taste of Faith's sweetness--and another and another. . . . Until a chance meeting with his client leaves Aiden exposed--and Faith shocked and hurt. Now the hired hottie must show Faith that the love they share is bigger than the scandal threatening to destroy them . .
I went to visit New Orleans last year and immediately wanted more books set there. I read the synopsis of this book and immediately knew I had to read it. It's a sexy, fun read that highlights the less well known side of New Orleans in a way that ignites wanderlust and provides a satisfying romance read.

The New Orleans locations used in this book are not the typical tourist hot spots that you would expect. They are more off the beaten path and showcase the heart of New Orleans. It's the kind of book that makes you immediately want to book a flight. New Orleans has a vibe all its own and Zoey Castile makes full use of this fact. It is also a setting I hope to see more of. Its rich history and culture make it an obvious choice, and this book makes full use of its many charms. It does manage to incorporate a few touristy traditions, like Aiden's love of Hurricanes, but those feel authentic to the story and not like a box being checked off.

Faith is a women who lives her life based on the expectations of others. Her mother is in politics and that comes with some clearly defined behaviour. Faith thinks of others before she considers what she wants. This book, in many ways, is her coming into her own. Her daring to make decisions and choices for herself. We get to see her take this journey that is inspired by the whirlwind romance she has with Aiden. She's a character who is instantly recognizable and I loved that she learns to do things on her own terms.

Aiden is a hot mess. He's lost his way and cannot seem to find the way back. He's the kind of guy who floats through life with everything kept at a surface level because anything more serious would crumble his carefully constructed defense mechanism. His brokenness reacts to Faith's own baggage and the sparks fly. Aiden's character arc to becoming a better man (with a little help from his Mayhem friends) is one of the best parts of this book and its heart.

The romance is steamy. There is a touch of exhibitionism at play with the couple unable to keep their hands off each other even in public. The all consuming, got to have you now, chemistry is matched by the genuine emotions that are written into their love story. Their banter adds another layer to their scorching chemistry. The end part of this novel is pretty predictable if you are familiar with romance tropes, but the characters made it feel fresh and fun.

Aiden and Faith both have side plots that are not connected to the main romance. It's their own personal baggage that they are bringing to the table. It impacts the romance, but mostly aids in the character arcs. Faith's relationship with her mother, and how it has impacted her life is the driving force behind her part of the story. Aiden's past mistakes weigh heavily on him and making right on those mistakes defines a large part of what he has to work through to find his happily ever after. This allowed both of the characters to feel more defined even though the primary focus is the romance.

Those who read romance know that this will end up in a happily ever after. Faith and Aiden's story wraps up in such a satisfying way. It is perfect for their story and who they are as characters. There are elements that needed to be included for them to have a happy ending with each other and I was thrilled to see them tied up just as nicely.

If you read and loved Stripped you'll definitely want to read Aiden and Faith's story. It is the kind of book that is a delight to read and I think will appeal to anyone who loves romance. It has got an incredible location, plenty of steamy scenes, and character side plots that only add to the romance being woven.

Having just finished Stripped, the first book in this series, I am impatiently waiting for this companion novel to come out!

Aiden definitely made an impression in Stripped so I am looking forward to him having his own book. Faith sounds like a fantastic character and it is set in New Orleans which has a lot of potential.

It's winter release date is not that far away and it just everyone plenty of time to read Stripped while they wait.

Skilled, sculpted, and sexy, the men of adult entertainment are the kind of guys a woman reserves for her fantasies, not her reality. But is there more to these professional hotties than meets the eye?…

The day Robyn Flores meets Zac Fallon is one of those days. You know, when you’re already late for work. Mostly because you haven’t really slept since your best friend abandoned you for her fiancĂ© and her exponentially better life. The kind of day you drag yourself to the cleaners to pick up your laundry, only to discover you’ve got the wrong bag—Star Spangled sequined thong, anyone? So Robyn is definitely not ready for the ridiculously gorgeous guy at her front door, except that they have each other’s clothes. But then, is any woman ever ready to meet the love of her life?

There’s just one problem: Zac Fallon is not the love of Robyn’s life. Zac knows, despite the all-too-intimate dinner they share, he doesn’t have a shot at her. Because the next time Zac sees Robyn, he’s front and center of the male revue headlining her best friend’s bachelorette party. So much for wooing the pretty schoolteacher, much less impressing her old-fashioned family, with his upstanding lifestyle. Now he’s only got one way to win his dream girl. It’s gonna be the steamiest, most irresistible seduction she’s ever seen. And this time it will be no act…
After reading the deal announcement for this series I was immediately intrigued. A fifth grade teacher and a male stripper? Sign me up. I hoped it would be a a fun, sexy summer read and was not disappointed. It had me rushing to watch both Magic Mike movies after finishing the last page and eagerly anticipating when I can return to this world that has been created.

Robyn's life is a bit of a mess and quickly spiraling even more out of control. Part of her story arc is learning exactly what she wants for herself. She has made decisions based on what she thinks she should do instead of what she actually wants to do and that fact is catching up with her.  She's easily relatable because she's someone who doesn't have it all together. She doesn't have it all figured out but is trying. I liked this part of her story arc. It was separate from her relationship with Fallon even though the relationship did make her things in a new light.

Fallon is your standard romance novel love interest. He's sexy, charming, has a little bit of an edge to him, and a good heart. He even comes complete with an adorable puppy. He's instantly loveable. I found the backstory elements that make up his character are what ultimately set up apart. He's not embarrassed about his job but does feel judged for it sometimes. He also feels unworthy of certain things because of how he sees himself. Getting to know his character was a nice change from some of the romance novels I've read and it just the connection between him and Robyn all the sweeter.

The group of guys that Fallon works with can really be described as more of a family than co-workers. Anyone who has seen Magic Mike, particularly the second one, will instantly know what I mean. Zoey Castile has captured that same bond and camaraderie that made that movie so enjoyable within the pages and put her own spin on it. The guys are there for each other and all of their interactions ran true as result. The rest of the guys are so charming that I am excited to continue reading about them as the companion novels are released. I would have loved to have had even more time spent with them while I was reading. They added a little something extra to the story.

Going off nothing other than the Magic Mike movies there is something unique about male revues. They aim to create an environment that is a safe space for women to express their sexuality. They set out to make very woman in attendance feel like a goddess (even if only for the night) and because of that something magical happens. Zoey Castile has captured a little bit of that magic within this novel. She showcases exactly what it is about male revues that women love. The ability they have to tell woman to embrace their fantasies and to not be ashamed of them is a wonderful thing. I loved the dance scenes because that element was woven in so perfectly. These scenes sizzle with an electricity that is felt by the reader. They truly come to life on the page and I dare say that writing these scenes is a particular talent this author possess.

A little aside to end this review on - the author gets bonus points for using song titles as the chapter names. You'll want to create a playlist after you finish reading this. We can only hope that Pony makes the list for one of the companion novels.

Romance readers who loved the Magic Mike movies will definitely want to check this one out. It combines the fun of a girls night out with a sweet and sexy romance which ends up being a winning combination. Pair it with a glass of your favourite wine and a face mask for a perfect way to spend an evening.

The deal announcement compared this one to Magic Mike and I was instantly sold. I expect it'll be a great mix of romance and humour which is especially appealing.  The meet cute sounds perfectly charming and I cannot wait to read the dance scenes.

It comes out at the end of summer which mean it's the perfect way to end your summer reading. It'll pair nicely with a drink by the pool (and make a fun book club read I imagine).
