Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

BOOKS

Cover for Of Curses and Kisses by Sandhya Menon (goodreads)

Fairytale retellings are always a favourite of mine and the fact that this is a Beauty and the Beast retelling set in a boarding school was enough for me to want it immediately.

The incredibly fun cover was revealed and I want to read it even more now.

I love the colour scheme and the font used for the title. It also done in a style that is very popular right now with the characters being drawn instead of using real people. This is a highly anticipated one for me and I cannot wait to read it.

Cover of Anna K by Jenny Lee (goodreads)

A story inspired by Anna Karenina and set in modern times. That alone should have you taking a second look at this novel. The adorable cover doesn't hurt either.

It's bright, and eye catching in a great way. I cannot wait to read this one!

TV/MOVIES

Queen and Slim Trailer

We had a teaser trailer which looked awesome, but not the full trailer for Queen and Slim has been released. It is sort of a Bonnie and Clyde story (which I have always been fascinated by) so I am obviously going to see it. Daniel Kaluuya looks to be giving a heck of a performance in this one.

The line 'Can I be your legacy?' gets me for some reason. This looks like it'll be romantic, heartbreaking and hard to watch at times.

OTHER

Recent Etsy Finds

I loved the third season of Stranger Things so was thrilled when one of my favourite Etsy shops, HappyHello, has these adorable Robin and Steve bookmarks from the third season.

The next item I absolutely love is this cute pin from the KrystanSaintCat Etsy shop. It is available in different colours, but the black and silver one caught my eye. I, obviously, needed to get one because it is very much on brand for me.

Stand By Me is one of my favourite movies (if not my absolute favourite). I immediately coveted this adorable art print that I found on the AnchoredDesignsUK Etsy shop. It has so many of my favourite quotes and just makes me so happy. Hopefully I'll get to own this soon and it'll find its way on to my wall at some point. It's too good for me not to own.

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

BOOKS

Cover Of All Of This Is True by Lygia Day Penaflor (goodreads)

Not only does the premise of this one sound AMAZING but the cover is just as incredible. I love that it has almost a true crime feel to it.

The crossing out of the word true also immediately makes a statement about what this book is. I am in love witht eh vivid red that was use as it's going to be eye catching on shelves. I am even more excited to dive into this one!

TV/Movie

Zac Efron As Ted Bundy

Zac shared another photo on his Twitter account that offers up a clearer look at his Ted Bundy. The makeup artists on this film are incredible because Zac looks so strikingly similar to Ted Bundy in this photo. It's more than a little eerie.

This photo, obviously, caused me and my friends to freak out and completely lose all chill. We're all looking forward to a movie poster and trailer. I am encouraged by the fact that this is going to be focused more on Ted's girlfriend at the time than Ted himself as I think that has the potential to offer up something new to say about this much talked about case.

OTHER

HappyHello Bookmarks (link)

I am sure I have mentioned these bookmarks before. They are super cute and I have quite the addiction to them. I love that a wide varitety of fandoms are offered so there is something for everyone. She even offers amazing customs so you can request your favourite characters.

I am currently obsessed with the above Steve and Dustin set from Stranger Things. You should check out her Etsy shop and get a few for yourself!

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

Some fun things to share this week! I am on an Etsy kick and I keep adding things to my wishlist! It's a problem, but a good one to have.

TV/MOVIE

Ian and Mickey from Shameless

I have been binge watching Shamless and am completely obsessed with Ian and Mickey and their romance. It's a hot mess, like so much else on that show, but I hear it gets so good later on.

I have not gotten to the scene where this gif comes from but I am very excited to.

OTHER

Hollywood and Crime podcast (link)

I am so excited for this to come back for its second season which will wrap up their Black Dahlia series. I cannot wait to continue as the first season was so fascinating. They also revealed that they will next focus on Charles Manson. If you love true crime podcasts I recommend checking this one out.

My Favorite Murder wineglass from CheyenneLeighDesigns Etsy Shop (link)

I love wine and I love My Favorite Murder so it makes sense that I would LOVE this wine glass. I need it. I even love the colours used on this one and wouldn't change anything about it.

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

BOOK

Cover of Cruel Crown by Victoria Aveyard (goodreads)

This is a bind up for the two novellas being released (Steel Scars, and Queen Song) and I am in love with this cover. It's stunning. I honestly love these novella covers more than the cover for Glass Sword. Looking forward to seeing the cover for the third book and having this gorgeousness on my bookshelf.

Queen of Shadows Pre-Order Campaign

Alright, so the pre-order campaign for Queen of Shadows was already awesome. Those buttons are awesome. Bloomsbury just went and sweetened the whole thing with THIS...

A button for Team Dorian! I cannot wait to get these now. The grey colour is also my favourite out of the bunch so this makes me REALLY happy. If you haven't pre-ordered QoS yet do it immediately and secure your own set of these buttons.

TV/MOVIE

The Way

I've been super interested in The Way since I read that Aaron Paul had been cast in a role. Now more details and casting have been announced and I am ready to watch this already. The show revolves around a young man who becomes involved in a cult like faith based group and it's charismatic leader. TVline has a great write up about it. Hugh Dancy was recently announced as the leader of the group and I am VERY intrigued to see how Aaron and Hugh play off each other. This could be amazing. It'll air on Hulu so it'll be perfect for binge watching.

OTHER

DigitalAquamarine Etsy Shop (link)

I stumbled across this beautiful Etsy shop recently and am basically obsessed.  She does these amazing watercolour images, most of them based on pop culture items (like Disney, Star Wars, etc).

I fell in love with this print from Beauty and the Beast.

Image from DigitalAquamarine Etsy Shop

Stunning, right? All of her art is amazing. The best part? You can purchase the JPG file and print itself for easy framing without the high shipping costs. I could easily have these all over my apartment. Take a look, I am sure there is at least one image that will catch your eye (and if not she does custom orders!)

Faves of 2014 (Non Bookish)

If you've visited the blog before you've certainly realized that it is not only books that I fangirl over. TV, movies, and sometimes music can quickly become obsessions.

I thought it might be fun to share some of my favourite non bookish things from 2014 before the year ends.

TV

Breaking Bad

I binged watched this last Dec/Jan during a holiday marathon. It quickly became one of my favourite shows. Not just of the year, but ever. Walter White and Jesse Pinkman are two characters you will never forget and the question of what happens after still haunts me. Without giving spoilers...you want this one character, in particular, to be okay. You want to think that they found their happiness after the events. The idea that they might not have...soul crushing. This show is insanely well written, even more well acted, and all consuming. Trust the hype, and just watch it already if you haven't.

The Affair

The he said/she said storytelling. The subtle, and sometimes not so subtle, differences in events. The brilliant acting. The amazing writing. Take your pick as there are plenty of reasons this show should already be on your radar.

The show plays with perception and our recollection of events. It asks how much of what we remember is based on how we see ourselves and others instead of on actual facts. The person you love for example will always look better to you than they do to themselves. Are our views of someone accurate? Is it something we're projecting onto them? All of this is tackled against a tightly woven plot that keeps unraveling as the story continues to spiral. The main four characters (Joshua Jackson, Ruth Wilson, Dominic West, and Maura Tierney) are electric and the chemistry between them all is palpable. You'll want to watch them connect with each other, destroy each other, and implode over and over.

Penny Dreadful

Eva Green. Those two words are enough to make watching Penny Dreadful a must. She delivers one of the best performances on television this year. I read somewhere that someone said nobody acted harder in 2014, on television, than Eva Green. I 1000% agree with this sentiment. The later half of the season in particular allows her some great material to work with. It stuns me that she hasn't received any nominations as of yet (hopefully an Emmy is in her future).

The fact that the rest of the cast is also very good, and that the show is well written only adds to it's allure. The show itself looks beautiful and the storyline is captivating. Harry Treadaway deserves a special mention for his role as Victor Frankenstein as well. He makes the iconic character his own, and provides something extra to his storylines as a result.

How To Get Away With Murder

The twisty, incredibly fun hit of the fall season also happens to have some of the most brilliant performances. Viola Davis literally and figuratively strips away the layers she hides behind in one stand out moment. Jack Falahee slays as the self destructive Connor Walsh. Alfred Enoch plays an audience stand in of sorts, and does it fantastically. His "WTF" expressions, and puppy like demeanor only add to his charm. The best thing about this show however is that after it's stunning first half of the season it can, pretty much, go anywhere. The possibilities have me excited and may just determine if this show has staying power.

MOVIE

Gone Girl

The book to movie adaptation of 2014 for me. Rosamund Pike's flawless performance as Amy Dunne steals the movie. Once the mysteries behind her character are revealed Rosamund gets her chance to showcase what she can do, and the effect is breathtaking. Too many details would spoil the movie, but her performance left me with goosebumps. The movie itself is a faithful, well done, impeccably acted, adaptation of one of my favourite novels and I left the theatre extremely pleased.

Jacke Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler

Chilling, creepy, perfection. Jake Gyllenhaal has be praised for his acting talents numerous times (Brokeback Mountain, anyone?) but his performance as Lou Bloom is beyond words. His transformation is nothing short of awe inspiring. He both repulses and fascinates you as a supremely driven crime scene journalist who will stop at nothing to get ahead in his career.

Boyhood

A movie that is both a look at growing up and the journey that takes us from childhood to the cusp of adulthood and a nostalgic time capsule. The amount of time, and planning that went into creating this story that spanned 12 years is inspiring. It's uplifting, bittersweet, and shows just how similar everyone's experiences really are.

MUSIC

Taylor Swift's 1989

Only one CD mattered to me this year (yes, this makes me lame, whatever) and it was this one. It has pretty much been on repeat since it's release and I am obsessed with Blank Space, and Wildest Dreams. OBSESSED.

Music was definitely the element lacking this year for me? Anything I should check out? Let me know in the comments.

OTHER

Etsy

This website has quickly become a favourite of mine. There are so many cute, and amazing things to buy. If you're part of a fandom, it's basically got you covered. You'll spend way too much time browsing but you'll undoubtedly leave it pining for some items, and with less money! It's going to be something I continue to use in 2015, especially for gifts for people.
