Here is the Goodreads synopsis

When Calla Tor wakes up in the lair of the Searchers, her sworn enemies, she's certain her days are numbered. But then the Searchers make her an offer, one that gives her the chance to destroy her former masters and save the pack and the man she left behind. Is Ren worth the price of her freedom? And will Shay stand by her side no matter what? Now in control of her own destiny, Calla must decide which battles are worth fighting and how many trials true love can endure and still survive.

I never really considered myself a “werewolf” story fan. I usually don't get into them as much as other novels. I have a few that I enjoyed and mostly they are very character oriented and involve other mythology. This series is no exception. I love it. I was hooked after Nightshade and Wolfsbane has left me eager for more.

The writing is perfectly paced. There is enough action, romance, twists, reveals and betrayals to keep you turning the pages. The story continues from Nightshade perfectly. You never feel confused or lost. You never just have to accept things as being part of the story. Andrea explains it all through her storytelling and characters. The one thing that is missing from the novel however is Ren! I wanted more Ren. He was seriously lacking in this novel and I have my fingers crossed we get to see more of him in the next one.

I really like the politics that exist within the packs. I especially like the under current of how the females are treated. Calla defies this and it’s great to see. Calla has these amazing moments where she is strong and totally the alpha she’s supposed to be. There are other times that I want smack her upside the head and ask her what she is doing. I am dying for her to make a choice between Ren and Shay. There was a lot of back and forth in this novel and I am hoping she makes her choice in Bloodrose.

The secondary characters, and heavy mythology are what keep me interested in this series. Bryn, Mason, Ethan, Connor, Adne, Nev, Ansel, and Sabine all had fantastic moments. I loved meeting the new characters and getting to know more about the ones we previously met.

There were twists and turns that I didn’t see coming and a few that will have a serious impact in the next novel. I am especially looking forward to seeing how Ren reacts to everything. There was some mythology teased with Ansel that I am curious about and hope it’s discussed further.

For fans of Nightshade this offers the chance to revisit beloved characters, meet some great new ones and gives you an intriguing, engaging story. It has an intense ending that will leave you wishing you could reach for Bloodrose right away. I am excited to see what happens next for Calla and her pack.

  1. I haven't read this one yet, but I soooo want her to choose Ren - he's amazing; a little bit sad to hear that he's not appearing enough in Wolfsbane.

Love your review! It reminded me that I really need to get a copy of this soon. :) Thanks for sharing!

I'm very curious about Ansel aswell and like you, while I admire Calla, I did want to whack her a few times LOL.

Brilliant review, Kathy! You're making me crazy excited for Bloodrose all over again.... which is not good since it's still a few months away (March relase in AUS, noooo) *goes to search for some patience*

  3. This book sounds like a keeper, especially when you mention the cultural barriers for the female wolves. I like when YA relates to the cultural issues of our world today. Much more than just "fiction"!

The blog is HOTT Kat! Keep up the awesomeness! Authors love you! :D <3
