Book Expo America - Day Two and Three

The second day of Book Expo America always tends to be my busiest, and the most crowded. There were more people than Thursday, but Book Con day actually had the most attendees (more on that later). Either way I got there early, was ready to stalk Harper Collins as they had a majority of the signings, and other events I wanted to attend. Even with the larger crowd I found everyone much more relaxed than previous years (minus the last day) and the entire feeling was very low key.

The Sarah J Maas line was insane. It was the first thing I lined up for that day. Heir Of Fire was THE book to get at Book Expo. Her line up started around an hour and a half early, and was biggest line that I was part of during the entire event. I was glad I went though because I got to tell Sarah how much I love Dorian. I sometimes think I am the only one who loves Dorian (okay, more than sometimes) so it was nice to hear Sarah say that she adores him too (and that he was a big part of Heir Of Fire!).

I was able to get into the Morgan Matson line after finishing up with Sarh J Maas' line. Morgan is adorable, and recognized me from Twitter. She's someone who is on my auto buy author list now because I've enjoyed all her books, and she's just such a nice person.

I wanted to be sure to get a copy of Even In Paradise after talking with Chelsey Philpot earlier in the week. It's always fun when an author remembers you from meeting them before so I was excited when Chelsey remembered me!

I am part of the Blogger Caravan for Heather Demetrios' Exquisite Captive and I am beyond excited to start sharing things with you (first thing VERY soon). I knew that going to her signing was a MUST for me, so I lined up early. I had chatted with Heather previously that week already, and it was great to get to talk to her again. I am just finishing up Exquisite Captive now and I am LOVING it.

After Jamie (The Broke and Bookish/The Perpetual Page Turner) fangirled over Falling Into Place I knew I needed to be on the look out for this one too. Luckily, I was able to snag it and Anatomy Of A Misfit at the same time. Anatomy Of A Misfit sounds amazing, and I have been hearing nothing but great things.

I somehow missed getting a copy of The Iron Trial the first day, but was able to get a copy at the Scholastic booth during a second giveaway. I am hoping to share this one with my nieces eventually (after I've read it, of course).

DAY THREE

BookCon happened on the last day of BEA, and I am sure everyone has already discussed at length what a mess it was. The idea behind the event is a good one, and there is obviously an interest, but the execution was not fully thought through. The crowd was too large for the space it was being held in. This lead to heightened tensions, and confusion. The autographing area in particular was unorganized. If they are going to have a successful event next year they need to revamp, and change how it's ran. This might work better as a completely separate event from Book Expo when they can maximize the space they have to use, and accommodate an event of this size.

I did go for a bit however, and braved the BookCon side of the floor for two signings. R.L Stine for my niece and Danielle Paige. Danielle was lovely, and remembered meeting me at the Epic Reads party earlier that week.

PURCHASED WHILE IN NYC

Just One Year by Gayle Forman (goodreads)
City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare (goodreads)

I was sad to have to miss the Teen Author Carnival event this year. In particular because Gayle Forman was going to be there. Luckily, Kim was able to get my book signed for me, but I do hope to meet Gayle at some point.

I also had to pick up the new Cassandra Clare while in town because it came out the day I arrived into NYC. I haven't had a chance to start reading yet, but SOON!

Lastly, as many of you know I have three ADORABLE nieces whom I adore to bits. They each wanted a book brought back from BEA for them. Kenadie wanted a Goosebumps book signed by R.L. Stine, Brooklynn wanted the new Ever After High book signed by Shannon Hale, and Avery didn't care what I brought her back. I took some super cute pictures of them with their new books!

Ever After High: The Unfairest of Them All by Shannon Hale (goodreads)
Goosebumps Most Wanted: Zombie Halloween by R. L. Stine (goodreads)
The Fairy-tale Matchmaker by E.D. Baker (goodreads)
The 8th Continent by Matt London (goodreads)

All said and done I have a fantastic time at BEA and can't wait to do it again next year. BookCon issues not withstanding they did a great job with the lines, and crowd control. Getting to meet amazing blogger friends, enjoy NYC, and fangirling over my favourite authors are some of my favourite parts of BEA, and so I consider this year a definite success as I accomplished all three. My only regret from this year? Not taking more photos!

I love comments. Thank you for stopping by my blog and thank you even more for leaving me a comment.

I have decided to make this an awards free blog. I appreciate the gesture, and love that you thought of my blog, however I simply can't pass them along as required.
