2022 Most Anticipated - Go Hunt Me

Vampires are having a major comeback and 2022 certainly has its share of vampire books releasing. This is a trend that I am very much here for. The next book featured in this event is inspired by one of my favourite vampire classics.

My next book's title is Go Hunt Me by Kelly deVos and it sounds like it might be creepy and exciting.

The Goodreads synopsis makes this feel like vampires combined with travel. A lot of great horror novels have traveling to some place new as part of its foundation and that can make it even scarier.
For Dracula lovers and fans of Diana Urban’s All Your Twisted Secrets, this spine-tingling thriller follows seven horror buffs as their dream trip to a remote Romanian castle turns into a nightmare when they begin to be killed one by one.

Alex Rush is ready for the trip of a lifetime.

She and her friends have made some creepily awesome films together throughout high school, so with only a few months left before they go their separate ways for college, they’re determined to make the best one yet: an epic documentary about the real inspiration for Dracula, filmed on location at a remote castle in Romania.

But when they get there, it’s not quite the majestic setting they planned for. Menacing weapons line the walls, the twisted halls are easy to get lost in, and with no connection to the outside world, the group is unexpectedly off the grid. After just a few hours spent under its roof, Alex and her friends have no trouble imagining how this dark, terrifying castle inspired one of the most enduring horror novels of all time.

Only soon they no longer have to use their imaginations to understand the location’s terrifying history—just as they get the documentary’s first shot rolling, one of Alex’s friends disappears, and she’s nearly certain she saw a cloaked stranger lurking in the shadows. As more members of the group begin to meet an untimely demise, Alex is desperate to stop the bloodshed, even if it means facing a monster she never thought would be let loose.
I love this modern take on Dracula and I cannot wait to see what Kelly has done to pay tribute to the classic while also making this something entirely its own.

Kelly was kind enough to take the time to answer some questions about her book and what Dracula still appeals to people so many years after its publication.

1 What gif do you feel best represents Go Hunt Me?

2 If someone were to make a signature drink in honour of your book, what might be included?

I think the drink MUST be red and should include cranberry juice in some capacity. For teens, I’d probably mix up a cranberry ginger ale punch. For adults, I’d make a cocktail with unsweetened cranberry juice and bourbon. 3 This book offers up a unique twist on the Dracula tale. Why do you think the story of Dracula fascinates us still today?

I think because the story includes so many elements that are both great for storytelling and interesting to audience of any era. Good versus evil. Science versus religion. Genius versus madness. There’s a lot of stuff that can be updated and adapted into a variety of settings. 4 What is one song that made your playlist while writing this book?

“Meet Me at Our Spot” by The Anxiety 5 What 2022 release are you most anticipating?

I am SO excited about These Fleeting Shadows by Kate Alice Marshall. I am an absolute sucker for a good haunted or creep house story and this one, which is being called a YA The Haunting of Hill House meets Knives Out 6 If not too spoilery, can you share the first line of Go Hunt Me.

The first line is, “You’re safe here.” Which, of course, you are NOT! LOL. There is a preview and excerpt of the first chapter of the book here: http://www.penguinteen.com/2022-cover-reveal-bonanza

Go Hunt Me releases June 14, 2022. It's a fantastic release date because of the travel elements of the plot and it definitely offers a more spooky read to take to the beach. It's available for preorder right now.
