**SPOILERS FOR THE PREVIOUS BOOKS IN THE SERIES**

Here is the Goodreads synopsis
The queen has returned.

Everyone Celaena Sardothien loves has been taken from her. But she’s at last returned to the empire—for vengeance, to rescue her once-glorious kingdom, and to confront the shadows of her past…

She has embraced her identity as Aelin Galathynius, Queen of Terrasen. But before she can reclaim her throne, she must fight.

She will fight for her cousin, a warrior prepared to die for her. She will fight for her friend, a young man trapped in an unspeakable prison. And she will fight for her people, enslaved to a brutal king and awaiting their lost queen’s triumphant return.

The fourth volume in the New York Times bestselling series continues Celaena’s epic journey and builds to a passionate, agonizing crescendo that might just shatter her world.
As a series progresses, particularly those with more than 3 books in them, it would seem natural to have less and less to say about it. The things that make the series great continue to do so. The characters you love are still engaging. The plot you fell in love with is still present. The mark of a good author is making you still want to talk about it and still making that excitement feel as fresh as book one. Sarah J Maas has mastered this as the Throne of Glass series continues to leave me spellbound.

The biggest strength of this series is character progression. Aelin is no longer Celaena and that shows in every aspect of Queen of Shadows. She embraced her birthright and is on the path to reclaiming her throne. Queen of Shadows offers both us and her the chance to say goodbye to Celaena. It shows Aelin putting her past behind her and embracing her future. There is a particular scene that reflects this beautifully and really showcases this novel as one of transition. Actions and events have consequences and those consequences have a lasting impact on the story narration and characters.

The most delightful surprise of Queen of Shadows was, for me, Manon. A character to whom I had lukewarm feelings toward after meeting her in Heir of Fire has evolved into an integral, nuanced part of the plot. I've come to love her fiercely and cannot wait to see how she develops over the last two books in this series. She is one of many impressive female characters who lead this series, and the events that transpire.

Romance is something Sarah excels at. She writes multiple possible ships with ease and makes each of them seem plausible. She also manages to create a delicious sexual tension in surprising places and I am excited to see where she takes a few of the possible romances next. I enjoy that there is something for everyone in terms of the romance, even if you don't particularly ship one couple there is always another that will ignite some kind of response.

This series really does have an 'epic' feeling to it, and it's expanding world only ensures that feeling remains. This novel surprises you by revealing another layer to the world, characters and plot as the story continues. It's scope is larger than the first book hints at and that has turned this series from a potentially good one to a phenomenal one.

A series that only continues to expand, and deepen not only it's world but it's characters. Sarah's strength is in the tiny details and the meticulous plotting that is evident as the series continues. It's not surprise that readers, including myself, are obsessed with this series and I cannot wait to follow Aelin on the last parts of her journey.

New To My Book Closet

It's that time of the week again. Time to show you what bookish goodies made their way into my home and book closet (to be saved from the evil book eating cat monster named Aria). This is inspired by the various "mailbox" posts out there (eg. In My Mailbox by The Story Siren, and Stacking the Shelves by Tynga's Reviews).

First up I have a surprise book that was released this week that has everyone talking...

Life and Death by Stephanie Meyer (goodreads)

Yup, I purchased Life and Death by Stephanie Meyer. GENDER SWAPPED TWILIGHT, OKAY! Not even sorry. I am going to read the heck out of this in November and will maybe do a review if I can fit it into the schedule in early 2016.

Next up is a mug I ordered from the lovely (and OH SO TALENTED) Gillian's Society6 shop.

This mug is perfect and I've already has some delicious Peanut Butter Cup tea from David's Tea in it. It's so perfect. I need this on a t-shirt that I can wear as pajamas. #FireBreathingBitchQueen

This week was a busy one in mailbox and I have lots to share this week.

First up, the amazing people at Penguin Random House Canada (RazorbillCA) sent me the following amazingness this week

When We Collided by Emery Lord (goodreads)
The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury (goodreads)

Yes, there was flailing and screaming involved. Cannot wait to start the newest Emery Lord novel, and Jessica Khoury's Aladdin retelling is one I am very much anticipating. Thank you Penguin Random House Canada.

Next up, the lovely people at Simon and Schuster Canada sent me a copy of one of my favourite author's newest novel so I was quite excited to find it in my mailbox.

Cam Girl by Leah Raeder (goodreads)

I love how gritty, real and complex Leah's novels are and I am expecting this one to be no exception. Excited to start it. Thanks, Simon and Schuster!

I obviously pre-ordered Queen of Shadows and claimed the amazing pre-order campaign that Bloomsbury had offered.

This button set is AMAZING and the I HEART DORIAN button is my favourite. A huge thank you to Bloomsbury for the pre-order campaign.

Next up is a prize I won from Paper Lantern Lit in a Twitter contest they hosted. The prize is pretty awesome and I am excited to have a hardcover of this one.

Legacy of Kings by Eleanor Herman (goodreads)

Thanks to Paper Lantern Lit for hosting the giveaway and the notebook is adorable! Love the royal purple colour.

Last, but certainly not least, is my #otspsecretsister package for September. My 'sister' sent me a fall themed package and I love every single thing in it! I didn't have the Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them book, so that was amazing. I love the little 'additions' that Harry, Ron and Hermoine added to the textbook. The Harry Potter necklace promptly found it's away onto my neck and I love the adorable little bookmark that reminds me of England.

A huge thank you to 'Hermoine' and I look forward to getting that free cup of tea on a cold fall day! Hope your September was just as amazing.

This week I had one of my most anticipated books of the fall be released! Pretty sure you'll see it a lot in book hauls from this week!

It'll most likely surprise nobody that I got Queen of Shadows this week!

Queen Of Shadows by Sarah J Maas (goodreads)

I had to snag a signed copy from my local Chapters via pre-order. I haven't had a chance to read it yet but it is happening soon!

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes is one of my most favourite books. I fell in love with Lou, Will and their story. I was both ecstatic and apprehensive when it was announced that a follow up would be released. Of course I am beyond excited to read it even if I am scared for the status of my heart after finishing it.

After You by Jojo Moyes (goodreads)

A huge thank you to Viking/Penguin for the chance to read this early. It's next up on my reading list!

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My pick this week is Queen of Shadows by Sarah J Maas

**SPOILERS FOR OTHER BOOKS IN THE SERIES**

Pretty sure my choice this week will surprise nobody other than how long it took for me to spotlight it! I love both of Sarah's series and cannot wait to continue Calaena's story!  It's less than a week away at this point and I cannot wait to devour all 656 pages! #TeamDorian

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

BOOK

Cover of Cruel Crown by Victoria Aveyard (goodreads)

This is a bind up for the two novellas being released (Steel Scars, and Queen Song) and I am in love with this cover. It's stunning. I honestly love these novella covers more than the cover for Glass Sword. Looking forward to seeing the cover for the third book and having this gorgeousness on my bookshelf.

Queen of Shadows Pre-Order Campaign

Alright, so the pre-order campaign for Queen of Shadows was already awesome. Those buttons are awesome. Bloomsbury just went and sweetened the whole thing with THIS...

A button for Team Dorian! I cannot wait to get these now. The grey colour is also my favourite out of the bunch so this makes me REALLY happy. If you haven't pre-ordered QoS yet do it immediately and secure your own set of these buttons.

TV/MOVIE

The Way

I've been super interested in The Way since I read that Aaron Paul had been cast in a role. Now more details and casting have been announced and I am ready to watch this already. The show revolves around a young man who becomes involved in a cult like faith based group and it's charismatic leader. TVline has a great write up about it. Hugh Dancy was recently announced as the leader of the group and I am VERY intrigued to see how Aaron and Hugh play off each other. This could be amazing. It'll air on Hulu so it'll be perfect for binge watching.

OTHER

DigitalAquamarine Etsy Shop (link)

I stumbled across this beautiful Etsy shop recently and am basically obsessed.  She does these amazing watercolour images, most of them based on pop culture items (like Disney, Star Wars, etc).

I fell in love with this print from Beauty and the Beast.

Image from DigitalAquamarine Etsy Shop

Stunning, right? All of her art is amazing. The best part? You can purchase the JPG file and print itself for easy framing without the high shipping costs. I could easily have these all over my apartment. Take a look, I am sure there is at least one image that will catch your eye (and if not she does custom orders!)

What are you obsessed with this week?
