The Power of the Dog poster
Oscar season is almost upon us as all of the big fall festival start very soon with the Venice Film Festival kicking off September 1. As a result we are getting a lot of Oscar buzz movies starting their advertising campaign.
We just got our first look at The Power of the Dog with both this poster and a teaser trailer.
Benedict Cumberbatch is said to give an incredible performance and I feel this poster captures the essence of what I heard the book this is based on is about.
Spencer Poster
Everyone has been eager to get their first look at Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana in Spencer. The first teaser released and they also revealed this AMAZING poster.
The poster is amazing! I love how simple and yet how eye catching it is.
The Power of the Dog trailer
The teaser trailer for this has made me so tense. It doesn't really give much away in terms of performance (but I am already keeping my eye on Kodi Smit-McPhee for a Supporting Actor nomination) but you can tell Benedict Cumberbatch is going to a memorable performance.
The whistling is unsettling. He looks menacing and he hasn't delivered a single word of dialogue. I cannot wait to see more. The cinematography is beautiful and I think this is going to amazing on the big screen.
Spencer Trailer
Kristen Stewart delivers two words of dialogue but it appears she's captured Diana's accent. This is from the same director as the movie Jackie (with Natalie Portman) and I think you can see that in the trailer.
I cannot wait to learn more about this movie as well. I have read that it takes place during the time in which Diana decided to divorce Charles but otherwise I don't know much about the plot of the movie. I am looking forward to finding out more.

BOOKS
Cover of One Italian Summer by Rebecca Serle (goodreads)
I love Rebecca's previous books and am very much looking forward to her newest one that she just announced. This cover reminds you of a sunset which is perfect for Italy.
This one seems to focus on a mother/daughter relationship which I think is a great choice for Rebecca to dive in to.

Trailer for The Eyes of Tammy Faye
Movies that have been buzzed about for Oscar season are starting to have their trailers released. This one stars Jessica Chastain and Andrew Garfield.
Jessica Chastain should easily be in talks for Best Actress as she is barely recognizable in this role and is typically awarded by the Academy. It's definitely on my list for movies to check out in the autumn.

Trailer for Dear Evan Hansen
As someone who enjoys musicals this adaptation of the Broadway hit was obviously going to be on my radar. The trailer, to me, looks great.
Lots of chatter about Ben Platt perhaps being too old for the role, but I think it works. I am glad that those of us not able to go see him perform on Broadway are getting to see him in this role. The music makes you emotional and I predict a bunch of people will cry while watching in theatres.

BOOKS
Cover For A Certain Appeal by Vanessa King (goodreads)
I featured this book in my 2021 Most Anticipated event and now it finally has a cover. It's fun, flirty, and I love it. It fits the synopsis of the book perfectly.
This Pride and Prejudice set in the world of burlesque inspired novel will certainly look stunning on shelves.
Cover For Duke, Actually by Jenny Holiday (goodreads)
I love cute holiday season set romance so when a friend brought this book to my attention I immediately had to add it to my reading list.
This is such a cute illustrated cover! It has perfectly captured the holiday season in New York City vibe that this book has in the synopsis.

American Horror Story Season 10 Announcement
The official theme/title of American Horror Story's tenth season will be revealed the day this post goes up (Friday). Ryan Murphy broke the news on his social feeds recently.
Based on the clues I expect it will deal with mermaids or sirens of some kind. I know they have filmed a lot of the show in Provincetown so it'll fit with the water/coastal vibes all the teasers have had.

First Look At Lady Gaga and Adam Driver In Gucci
Lady Gaga recently tweeted the first image of her and Adam Driver on set for Gucci. This movie is definitely on my radar as a Murderino but also as a fan of movies. The casting is great and I predict this one might be a big deal around Oscar season.
Her and Adam look amazing and I cannot wait to see a trailer for this! It is currently set to be released in November but expect it to be at many of the film festivals earlier in the fall.

It's been too long since I have posted a Weekly Obsessions post. There hasn't been a lot being announced, and everything was getting pushed back and delayed. I am restarting this because we've been getting more announcements lately and I have hope that with a vaccine being rolled out and things being released to streaming that this trend might continue.
I have decided to shift this post to Fridays to close out the week!
We've got some fun things coming up and I am very excited to share what has me most excited this week.
I was really excited when I heard that Katie Cotugno was releasing her first adult novel. I was even more excited when I read the synopsis because it is definitely something I am desperate to read.
It sounds amazing and it is going to be a long wait for summer 2022 when I can get my hands on it!

Cruella trailer
Disney's villains are iconic and are just as popular as their other characters so I was not surprised when it was announced that they were going to do a live action movie detailing the origin story of Cruella from 101 Dalmatians.
Emma Stone stars as a younger Cruella and based on this trailer she has nailed the part.
Her laugh is perfection. It reminds me so much of the one from the original animated movie and I love all of the fashion that is showcased here. I am also entirely here for them making her a villain right from the beginning. It doesn't seem like they are going to offer a sympathetic backstory (at least from this trailer).
It's scheduled to be released in May. No word on if it'll be a theatrical release, or offered on Disney+ as part of their 'Premier Access' releases.
Cruella Poster
Along with the trailer they also released a few posters that are amazing.
Excellent use of Cruella's black, red, and white colour palette. This particular poster was my favourite of the two they released.
OTHER
WandaVision Funko
I cannot be the only one completely obsessed with WandaVision. I've been eagerly awaiting the release of each episode on Disney+ each Friday and have so many theories.
I am loving the inclusion of Evan Peters in the show and absolutely need this particular Funko!
It's from the Halloween episode which was one of my favourite so far and I think there is much more to be discovered both in the show in general and this character in particular.

BOOK
Cover of If The Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy (goodreads)
Disney is launching a new adult series that reimagines classic Disney Princesses in a contemporary setting. The first book in the 'Meant To Be' series is If The Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy.
Amazing cover and I am so excited to read this twist on Cinderella. It's pretty much a Disney rom-com and I am definitely the target audience.
I love Peter Pan retellings. I especially love those that twist the classic tale and this one is definitely doing just that with its darker take on the boy who wouldn't grown up.
How amazing is this cover though? It's stunning. It is a cover that makes you pause and read the synopsis when you see it on the shelf at the bookstore. I cannot wait to add it to my own bookshelf.
TV/MOVIES
Promising Young Woman Poster
I love everything about this. Absolutely everything.
This poster immediately captures what this movie is and what it is about. I have been looking forward to this one since the first trailer was released and I am so happy to see it back on the release schedule.
Mank Trailer
David Fincher + Old Hollywood = made for me. I have been very excited about this movie pretty much from the second I heard about it. It revolves around the making of Citizen Cane with particular attention to the relationship between Orson Welles and Herman Mankiewicz as they wrote the script.
It looks like a classic Hollywood movie! The cinematography is incredible. The cast seems pretty stacked as well. I predict a lot of Oscar nominations and perhaps even some wins.
Promising Young Woman Trailer
This is probably one of the best trailers I've ever seen. It's so captivating. It's a timely look at an important topic given a revenge slant.
I am going to be interested to see how people react to this because it seems made to cause a REACTION. It is going to be controversial just based on the trailers and I am very excited for the conversation that is going to come from this.

This is being posted on a Monday because I had internet issues all day Sunday and couldn't get it posted until it was much too late in the day.
Movies are slowly starting to release and so marketing for upcoming movies is kicking back in to gear. Getting to see some trailers made me feel that things were just a tiny bit more normal.
We also are starting to see cover reveals happen for spring 2021 books which is exciting.
BOOKS
Cover of The Intimacy Experiment by Rosie Danan (goodreads)
The buzz for Rosie Danan's first book, The Roommate, is pretty much inescapable at this point. I know I am not the only one eager to read it as soon as they can. I was happy to find out that Rosie already has a second book coming out and the cover was just recently revealed
It sounds just as interesting as The Roommate an I love the cute cover design that they've decided on for Rosie's books! They're super cute.
I loved Red, White, and Royal Blue so much. I have been looking forward to Casey McQuiston's new book since I finished and am so excited that the cover has been revealed!
It's such a cute cover! I love that it captures the feel of the synopsis. I am beyond excited for this one and cannot wait to see what Casey has done with take on Kate and Leopold.
TV/MOVIES
The Batman trailer
I know we've had so many Batman movies that people may not be excited for this one to come out, but the trailer is here to change that opinion. It's a fantastic trailer. It's like someone decided to take Batman and put him into the middle of the movie Seven.
Jeffrey Wright is a fantastic choice for James Gordon. You instantly know who he is playing when you see him in this trailer. I am pretty impressed with Robert Pattinson's Batman. This is supposed to release next year and hopefully COVID19 will not cause it to be too delayed.
Death On The Nile trailer
If you liked Murder on the Orient Express you'll be eager to see Death on the Nile. I don't think this trailer will make you want to see it if you hated Murder on the Orient Express though.
I have not read this book so I will be going in to the movie without knowing who the murderer is. I am hoping to read the book after just because I want to be surprised.

Another small post this week, but as movies slowly make their way back into theatres we should start seeing more trailers.
I am also anticipating cover reveals for books being released in winter 2021 very soon as well.
TV/MOVIES
The Devil All The Time Trailer
This trailer will certainly not appeal to everyone but I think it is worth watching for that cast alone.
Most of the cast is British or Australian so I am impressed with the level of accent work being done here. I like that Tom Holland is taking on a role that is so very different from what we have seen him in.
This also has a lot of Marvel movie connections and that is not even taking into account that Sebastian Stan's role was originally supposed to be played by Chris Evans who had to back out due to scheduling conflicts and suggested Sebastian for the role.
The Devil All The Time Poster
The marketing team for Netflix released the poster for The Devil All The Time at the same time as the trailer. I love how simple it is while still being very eye catching.
Seeing it broken down like this really makes you realize how stacked this cast really is. I am fairly certain it is going to have people interested just for that alone. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it also happens to be good.

There isn't a whole lot to be excited about right now. Things are pretty not great. However, I do have a few things providing some brightness in all of this.
It's a very Ratched focused post this week!
TV/MOVIES
Ratched Key Art Posters
I was sold instantly because of Ryan Murphy and Sarah Paulson being attached to this. The posters have a very specific vibe. I love how similar to American Horror Story: Asylum it feels.
Those who love One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest will want to check out this origin story of an iconic character. I predict Emmy love for Sarah Paulson.
Rachted Trailer
I love everything about this. I've watched it at least 20 times. The use of the song, Sarah freaking Paulson absolutely killing it, and a supporting cast that looks fantastic.
Love the glimpses of Finn Wittrock that we've seen! I am very excited to learn more about his character. This is my September must watch and I predict it'll become one of my faves of the year.

BOOKS Cover for Hot British Boyfriend by Kristy Boyce (goodreads)
Illustrated covers are all the rage right now and this one is particularly cute. I love the colour scheme and the adorable characters! The tea cup just seals the deal.
I feel like this cover lets you know EXACTLY what this book is going to be. It's perfect.
TV/MOVIES The poster for The Broken Hearts Gallery
I love a good rom-com and this one looks particularly adorable. I love the poster so much!
I feel like it captures the vibe of the movie perfectly. I certainly matches the trailer (see below).
Posters for Hamilton on Disney+
Disney+ will be releasing Hamilton on July 3rd and they released some cast posters in the lead up. I love these posters so MUCH!
I decided to share just two of my favourites, but you can find the entire set on the Disney+ Twitter account.
First up is Jonathan Groff's poster!
And of course Lin Manuel Miranda's had to be included as well.
I wanted my first time seeing this to be in person at the theatre but Covid19 had other plans. I am just glad I get to see the original cast (and here is hoping I can keep my December date to see it in person).
The Broken Hearts Gallery Trailer
The above poster gives you an indication of what you are in for, and the trailer just confirms those suspicions. It's a very cute trailer and I personally cannot wait to see this.
I am sadly pretty sure that it will not be making it's July 17th release date though. I just don't think movie enough movie theatres will be open for studios to release new movies before that date.
The Baby-Sitters Club Trailer
Netflix is bring back The Baby-Sitter's Club and this trailer is a whole lot of fun.
The cast actually looks the age they are supposed to be, and it is filled with nostalgic goodness that makes this very appealing. I cannot wait to check it out.
Trailer for Hamilton
I do not think it is possible to watch this trailer and not get goosebumps. There is a reason Hamilton is a cultural phenomenon.
I cannot wait to sit and watch this with the original cast. It's going to be pretty magical.

BOOKS Cover of Christina Lauren's In A Holidaze (goodreads)
This is the first book that Christina Lauren has written that is set during the holidays and I was super excited to see how cute the cover is!
This is perfect for the holidays. It's bright and cheerful in the way that you associate with that time of year. I predict many people will be enjoying it as a means to destress after holiday shopping. TV/MOVIES The Umbrella Academy Season 2 Release Date Announcement
I loved season one of Umbrella Academy and have been eagerly awaiting news on when season two would be released. Netflix just recently shared this adorable video that announces the release date as July 31!
Those have watched the first season will recognize that they are sort of recreating the iconic dance scene that uses the same song. It's perfect and I love this cast.

BOOKS Cover of The Project by Courtney Summers (goodreads)
I was already excited about Courtney Summers' new book when she teased us with that majorly creepy teaser. More details have been released and I am even more excited to read it now.
Courtney writing about cults is a very logical fit and I am looking forward to seeing what she does with it. I am most curious to 'meet' her version of a cult leader and what that person might be like. TV/MOVIES Hamilton Comes To Disney+
Disney+ recently announced on Twitter that the recorded version of Hamilton with the original cast will be released on the streaming service on July 3rd instead of in theatres. I am sad that my first experience with this play will be via television, especially because I was supposed to see it this July. I am, however, excited that I get to see Jonathan Groff, Anthony Ramos, and Lin Manuel Miranda (among others) perform.

BOOKS Midnight Sun by Stephenie Meyer (goodreads)
Pretty much anyone who has read the Twilight series has been waiting for the release of Midnight Sun. Most of us had given up hope that we would ever get to see if published. Stephenie surprise dropped the news that not only was being released, but it was being released this summer. It comes out in August which feels both so far away and very soon.
The cover was released and sort of wish they had gone with an apple that had a bite taken out of it.
I will have this pre-ordered and will eagerly await its arrival at my door. I cannot wait to read it.
Book News From Courtney Summers (goodreads)
Courtney has a new book coming out and if you watch the video in the below tweet you'll get all the details that we currently have about it.
THE NEWS: my next novel is so relentless and so compelling, @WednesdayBooks and I can only reveal it in pieces at a time and we're thrilled to share these with you today: title and release date.
Push play and stay to the end.
Just stay.
And welcome to . . . pic.twitter.com/8hQ5OjDQEq
It's called The Project and that teaser is both intriguing and terrifying. It's pretty much what we have come to expect from Courtney.
Cover of Stephanie Perkins' The Wood Are Always Watching (goodreads)
Some details of Stephanie Perkins next horror novel have been released. We have a title and a cover.
We also know that it takes place in the woods and involves a serial killer. I have heard it is even more of a horror novel that her first one was so that is exciting for horror fans.
Cover for A Better Bad Idea by Laurie Devore (goodreads)
Laurie's books are always ones I eagerly anticipate. If you are a Courtney Summers fan you need to check out Laurie's books. Her next one sounds really intriguing and I love the cover.
This one comes out in March 2021 so if you haven't read her other books previously you can read them while you wait.
TV/MOVIES I'll Be Gone In The Dark trailer
All of us Murderinos devoured Michelle McNamara's books when it was released and followed all of the news of the eventual arrest of the Golden State Killer. There is now going to be a documentary released. It is releasing in June so it'll be perfect for everyone to watch while we're still social distancing.
There are, obviously, so many people Murderinos will recognize in this trailer. It's such a great trailer too! I got goosebumps.

Promotion for Ryan Murphy's Hollywood kicks off
Netflix has started to release a lot more promotional material for Hollywood. The show debuts May 1st and wile we still do not have a trailer, we do have closer looks at some of the characters.
First up we have posters to highlight each of the main characters.
They put them all in one photo, but each portrait was released separately. I love the classic look of them. it fits the time period.
Next we have short little clips of each character. I am including the two of the ones released so far. The others can be find on the official Twitter account of the show.
These are basically perfect. I love how everything fits with the time period from the costumes, to the music, to the 'feel' of both characters. I definitely know how I am spending May 1st.
OTHER It's The Pictures That Got Small podcast
Karina Longworh (host of the You Must Remember This podcast) and Nate DiMeo (host of The Memory Palace podcast) have a new podcast that they are creating together called It's The Pictures That Got Small.
It is a sort of movie club to help get us through this time of social distancing/quarantine. Each week they are having a friend of theirs pick a movie that the group has not yet seen so they can all discuss it after. Two episodes are available (Cast Away and From Here To Eternity) and they'll be watching The Grapes of Wrath for this upcoming episode (which have been dropping on Wednesdays). I am finding it immensely entertaining and have enjoyed following along so far. The podcast is available on both Spotify and Apple so far.

There is obviously not a lot to be excited about going on right now, but I had to highlight something that was released this week because I love it so much!
BOOKS The cover of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by VE Schwab (goodreads)
I love how simple it is and how it directly ties into the first part of the story (if you read the excerpt that was revealed on Entertainment Weekly you'll see what I mean). The seven stars are a reference to something and that makes me love the cover even more.
The sort of gold lettering is begging to be done in foil so I hope that happens as it would really make the cover pop out on shelves even more.

I am very excited to (hopefully) see West Side Story this winter! Vanity Fair has an exclusive look at some stills from the movie and they are really pretty. I especially love this one of Tony and Maria.

BOOKS cover by Majesty by Katharine McGee (goodreads)
I enjoyed American Royals when it came out last year. It, of course, leaves of on a cliffhanger so I have been excited to get my hands on the sequel.
The cover was just revealed and it is just as fun as the cover for the first book.
I think I like the colour scheme for this one more than the first though! It is bright and light in a way that the other one wasn't.
MOVIES/TV Hollywood (Netflix)
We have a release date and poster art for Ryan Murphy's next Netflix series. It's based on Hollywood in the 1940's. Other than someone playing Rock Hudson I believe all the other characters are created for the show.

If you're okay with knowing some information about the fourth season check out the video below.
The fact that they are revealing this only makes me excited for what BIGGER reveals are to come. This felt like a huge thing to share so I expect that whatever they are holding back is going to be pretty exciting.

Such a bright, fun cover, too! I love how eye catching it is and how it is very on trend with the rest of the rom-com book covers out there. I cannot wait to read this one! The Nobleman's Guide to Scandal and Shipwrecks by Mackenzi Lee (goodreads)
I am obsessed with the fact that this book will exist and the cover!
It matches the others in this series perfectly and I am so excited that we are going to get another book about a Montague sibling!
MOVIES/TV Riley Keough To Star In Daisy Jones and The Six
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Riley Keough has snagged the role of Daisy in the upcoming television adaptation of Daisy Jones and the Six. It's set to be a series available through Amazon.
