New To My Book Closet

It's that time of the week again. Time to show you what bookish goodies made their way into my home and book closet (to be saved from the evil book eating cat monster named Aria). This is inspired by the various "mailbox" posts out there (eg. In My Mailbox by The Story Siren, and Stacking the Shelves by Tynga's Reviews).

Lots of fun goodies made their way into my mailbox this week! Super excited for everything.

Cruel Crown by Victoria Aveyard (goodreads)

First up I received my pre-order goodies for Winter. The gloves are super cute and I intend to put some of the tattoos on my nieces.

I also purchased Cruel Crown by Victoria Aveyard which is a bind up of two short stories that take place in the Red Queen world. Very excited to read them.

I also was approved for some egalleys from the publishers.

Leave Me by Gayle Forman (goodreads)
26 Kisses by Anna Michels (goodreads)
The Winner's Kiss by Marie Rutkoski (goodreads)
Walk The Edge by Katie McGarry (goodreads)

A huge thank you to all the publishers for the chance to review these amazing sounding titles.

One of my most anticipated books of this year made it's way into my book closet this week! The other book is one that is on my radar for 2016 and I am very excited for both.

First up is a book that ends one of my favourite series, and is one I've been excitedly waiting for.

Winter by Marissa Meyer (goodreads)

Sadly I don't have it with me to take a picture but I purchased it in hard cover. The pages are SUPER thin which makes it less bulky than I anticipated but has me terrified I'll tear the pages. I am so excited to begin this one next week!

A huge thank you to Raincoast Books for the second addition to my mailbox this week.

American Girls by Alison Umminger (goodreads)

This one has been on my radar for 2016 since I read the deal announcement blurb and I am really excited to have it in my hands. I will be reading it soon!

Waiting On Wednesday ....... Winter

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My pick this week is Winter by Marissa Meyer

**SPOILERS FOR PREVIOUS BOOKS IN THE SERIES**

Here is the Goodreads synopsis
Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mar her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.

Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend–the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.

Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters?
It's no surprise that this would be my pick. I adore the series and am excited to see how it ends. With the announcement that we are getting a collection of short stories to cap off the series I thought this was an appropriate pick. Stars Above (the short story collection title) will be released in Feburary, 2016.

Expected release date - November 10, 2015

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

Extremely small Weekly Obsessions post this week.

BOOKS

Cover for Winter by Marissa Meyer (Goodreads)

I've been waiting for Winter since it was announced that it was Snow White inspired. I couldn't wait to see what the cover would look like and had a feeling that it was going to be my favourite out of all the novels. The cover is STUNNING! I love it (and it is my favourite). The brief tease that was in the Fairest novel has made me sure that Jacin and Winter are my favourite couple from this series. All signs to this also being my favourite book! Can it be November already?!

MOVIE/TV

Cinderella (live action movie)

A magical, delightful adaptation that is so very like the classic cartoon while making it all it's own. The visual elements were stunning and the casting was perfect. Lily James is goodness and light as Cinderella, and Richard Madden is entirely swoon worthy as Kit (aka Prince Charming). If you're a fan of Disney, or Cinderella in general, this is one you won't want to miss.

L.A. Crime (pilot) casting

Taissa Farmiga and Ed Westwick have both been cast in this intriguing sounding show. While it is only in pilot stages, I hope it'll get a series pick up. It's a crime show and the first season is supposed to revolve around the hunt for a couple who are Bonnie and Clyde-esque serial killers. While I am not sure who Taissa Farmiga will be playing, Ed Westwick is said to play the "Clyde" part of the Bonnie and Clyde inspired couple. I am excited to (hopefully) watch it this fall.
