Autumn Book Buzz

As summer comes to end my mind drifts to cooler evenings spent with warm tea and a good book. Luckily this year's Fall selection is better than ever. I have read a few Fall releases and offer some of my favourites that will have you reading long into the crisp autumn nights.

The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin - release date of October 23

If you haven't read The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, the first novel in this series, do so immediately. The sequel offers everything you loved in the first novel, and more. Dark, sexy, and decadent. Noah Shaw is sexier, the answers lead to more questions, and Mara is just as intriguing as ever. Michelle provides us with a ending that will leave you breathless for some Retribution.

Burn for Burn by Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian - release date of September 18

This delicious tale of teenage girls and revenge surprised me in the best way possible. Something in this story brings to mind the movie The Craft whenever I think of this book. It's not the witchcraft elements, but the bonding of the girls in search of vengeance for wrongs done to them, that causes the comparison. Revenge can have some unforeseen consequences however, and this story still has a few surprises in store.

The Diviners by Libba Bray - release date of September 18

Part murder mystery, part paranormal, and all awesome! This 1920's set novel has well developed characters, and amazing world building. It's creepy, it's cool and pos-i-tute-ly stunning. A dark and thrilling novel that you'll want to read with the lights on.

So there are three of my MUST read Autumn selections. All three blew me away and left me anticipating the next installments in the series.

Autumn Book Buzz...

It’s that time of year again…

Students are getting ready to head back to class (or are already there in some cases), leaves will soon fall from the trees, and my thoughts turn to cozy evenings with tea and a good book. Luckily for me (and you) there are some AMAZING new releases coming up this autumn. As I was lucky to have been able to attend Book Expo America I have had the chance to read some titles that will be released soon. These are ones that I am sure you’ll be excited to get your hands on!

Here are my Buzz Worthy selections for Autumn 2011 (Sept - Dec):

1. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin




What’s it about?

That’s super secret. Seriously, I can’t tell you. I will tell you there is paranormal elements and that there is a sexy boy named Noah Shaw.

Why I found it Buzz Worthy

The story blew me away from the amazing cryptic start to the jaw dropping ending. I am already aching to read book 2. I am not sure I will last until it’s released. It’s an amazing start to what is hopefully a series of books. The romance is super sexy and Michelle is now one of my favourite writers and I look forward to anything she writes. The question “Who is Mara Dyer?” is one I am dying to get more answers to.

2. Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi



What’s it about?

A girl whose touch is powerful enough to kill people, as a result she’s been locked away. Anything more than that would be too much of a spoiler. Just trust me that awesomeness happens.

Why I found it Buzz Worthy

The writing is unique and unlike anything I had read before. The main character is such a strong female lead character that I loved her immediately. The ending is going to make the wait for book 2 long and horrible.

3. The Future of Us by Jay Asher and Carolyn Mackler




What’s it about?

Two teens stumble upon this thing called Facebook before Facebook was a reality. This allows them a glimpse into their futures, but is that something they really want?

Why is it Buzz Worthy?

The nostalgia factor was high for me. I would have been about the same age as these characters at the time the novel is taking place. I had flashbacks when certain things were mentioned, and it left me with a warm fuzzy feeling. Plus, who hasn’t wanted to see what their future holds? This was done in a clever, and unique way that we can relate to today.

And one last title. This is one I haven’t had the chance to read yet. It’s one of my most anticipated books of the fall:

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins



Who didn’t LOVE Anna and the French Kiss. I am pretty sure the answer is NOBODY. I have seen reviews and they have done nothing but make me even more ravenous to read this book. Exactly how long until this is out?!
