Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! I have a few exciting things to share this week as we wait to say goodbye to 2018!

BOOKS

My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell (goodreads)

The splashy book announcement for this one certainly got my attention. It not only is already creating a bunch of buzz BUT sounds incredible too.

Here are the details released so far

MY DARK VANESSA, pitched as a Lolita story for the #metoo era, a tale of the psychosexual manipulation of a 15-year-old girl by her middle-aged English teacher, told from her perspective and alternating between the present day and their years-long affair, pitched in the vein of THE GIRLS with the emotional intensity of ROOM,

Amazing right? It is not released until 'early 2020' but I am already obsessed.

MOVIE / TELEVISION

Us Trailer

Jordan Peele's Get Out was a huge moment in pop culture. Everyone was talking about it and it garnered a lot of critical praise. The expectations for his next movie are high to say the least.

If the first trailer is anything to go by I am pretty sure Jordan Peele has another hit on his hands.

There are a bunch of things at play in this trailer, but my immediate take away is, of course, that the 'intruders' are THEM. The theme of us being our own worst enemy has a lot of potential. The trailer is terrifying and I am excited to go see it opening weekend.

Us Movie Poster

Along with the terrifying trailer we also got a new movie poster. It is certainly eye catching.

We know from the trailer that the 'impostor' family is in red and has those scissors. I am even more scared to find out what the deal is with the scissors after seeing the trailer, but the poster is menacing enough.

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

BOOK

Cover for The Stars We Steal by Alexa Donne (goodreads)

The cover for this one is stunning! I love how the colours compliment each other here. The gold rose really pops off the page.

The synopsis sold me with 'whiskey ship'. That was pretty much all I needed to be very excited but it helps that the rest of it sounds great as well.

MOVIE / TELEVISION

Us Movie Poster

I, along with a lot of other people, have been eagerly awaiting more details about Jordan Peele's next movie after Get Out. The studio was being careful and not really revealing too much about his next movie. We got a title and a release date and that was pretty much it ... until now.

This movie poster was released and we learned that the trailer will arrive on Christmas day. I have a billion more questions after seeing this poster and am counting down the days until I can see the trailer!

OTHER

Romeo and Juliet Funko Pops

Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet is probably my favourite adaptation of Shakespeare's play. I love how over the top it is, and how vibrant and colourful. I also love the cleverness with how they modernized the play itself while still having the dialogue fit.

Funko recently announced that they will be releasing three Pops from the movie and I am going to need all three of them.

I love the two Romeos! I love the wings on the Juliet Pop! I cannot wait to add these to my collection.

New To My Book Closet

It's that time of the week again. Time to show you what bookish goodies made their way into my home and book closet (to be saved from the evil book eating cat monster named Aria). This is inspired by the various "mailbox" posts out there (eg. In My Mailbox by The Story Siren, and Stacking the Shelves by Tynga's Reviews).

I've had an insane book week this week, and I am so excited about everything.

First up, I went to an advance screening of If I Stay and they had a trivia giveaway. One of the bags was some If I Stay swag, and it's all really cute!

It's a tank top, a luggage tag and little notebook. Very cute. I loved the movie. It was exactly what I wanted it to be. Mirelle Enos was my favourite part of the movie, but Jamie Blackley as Adam was pretty prefect!

I had to wait to get my copy of Isla and the Happily Ever After because I pre-ordered one of those signed copies that came with special goodies. The closest place to me was Toronto, and I happened to be going there anyways, so I picked it up at the same time.

Isla and the Happily Ever After (goodreads)

The book, an awesome tote bag, three cute buttons, and some stickers! I am happily reading this right now and wanting to hug the book it's so cute.

I also got a few amazing sounding books from Harper Collins Canada

The Fall by Bethany Griffin (goodreads)
The Death Of Us by Alice Kuipers (goodreads)
Us by David Nicholls (goodreads)

I love Bethany's other books, so I am excited to read The Fall. The Death Of Us is one that Harper Canada has been talking about quite a bit. I read One Day by David Nicholls, and have been eager to see what he would release next.

Lastly, I also got one of the most awesome buttons EVER!

That cover, right? So stunning. A big thank you to Harper Collins for the books, and the amazing
button!

What books made their way into your mailbox this week?

Happy weekend, and happy reading!
