Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

BOOKS

Cover of An Assassin's Guide to Love and Treason by Virginia Boecker (goodreads)

This was referenced as Phillipa Gregory meets Mr and Mrs Smith in the official announcement and I was immediately sold. I love the rivals who want to make out with each other trope so much!

The cover of this was revealed, and I think it's pretty fun!

I loved Virginia's previous books and am excited to find out more about this one. I especially look forward to the Shakespeare connection!

TV/MOVIE

iZombie Season Four Trailer

Spoilers for the previous season of iZombie but I am so excited that this show is returning in about a month. It's such a fun show and I LOVE this teaser for the new season.

I love these characters so much, and I am hoping that we see some progression with Liv and Major this season.

My Top Ten TV Ships

I have been super into podcasts recently, and had my friend Kelly (from Kellyvision) tell me about this podcast that talks about television and the couple we ship on our favourite shows. It's called The Shipping Room Podcast and if you are a fan of CW shows, shipping, and lots more I recommend you give it a try.

Listening to the podcast gave me the idea to list my own top ten ships from television. I have been teased that I am the Patron Saint Of Doomed Ships and this list makes the moniker seem pretty accurate.

*POTENTIAL SPOILERS*

1. Buffy and Angel from Buffy The Vampire Slayer

One of my first ships, and one of the firsts that showed me just how brutal shipping can be. There are so many memorable moments between them but the "You still my girl?" "Always" exchange remains one of my favourites.

I loved every bitter sweet moment between these two and love that they were willing to sacrifice for each other at various times in their relationship. The entirety of season two was basically like cat nip to teen me, and I doubt those nostalgic feelings for this couple will ever go away.

2. Emma and Neal from Once Upon A Time

Their story was epic. Two people magically whisked away from their home at a young age end up finding their way to each other. It was basically fate. He was totally supposed to be her true love.

Neal made mistakes that he was atoning for but he never stopped loving Emma, and she never stopped loving him. It could have been a very sweet second chance romance. There was so much that Neal taught Emma, but the most important thing he instilled in her was her idea of home. He also gave her the greatest love of her life - their son Henry. This ship was filled with potential and cuteness. It still breaks my heart how this one ended.

3. Coach and Tami Taylor from Friday Night Lights

A couple that was always a couple during the entirety of the show. They basically are the definition of #marriagegoals. My favourite part of their relationship was how realistic it felt. They had issues, but their love for one another made them work at their marriage and not take each other for granted.

This gif pretty much sums up their relationship. There was a lot of respect between the two of them, and it showed in everything they did.

4. Emma and Dylan from Bates Motel

Emma and Dylan were a light in the darkness that was Bates Motel. Their relationship took me by surprise, but ended up being one of my favourite elements of the show.

Dylan calling Emma a 'frickin' warrior' is one of my favourite moments and one of the most romantic. It showed how much he supported her, and that he saw how strong she was. Emma brought out the best in Dylan simply because he wanted to be someone worthy of her.

5. Liv and Lowell

A ship that, sadly, ended before it really began. Lowell easily won Liv (and myself) over with his charm, British accent and good looks. He also happened to be kind, and was the first guy her zombie self felt comfortable around romantically. He made her see that love after being zombified was possible.

While it is rather obvious who her end game romance will be, I definitely wished for Lowell to stick around a little longer than he did. It was cute while it lasted.

Bonus Izombie Ship - Ravi and Peyton

iZombie is filled with amazing ship potential, so I had to include a bonus one from this show.

I love the potential this ship has, and while they've already had their ups and downs, I predict it'll sail again soon.

6. Lucifer and Chloe from Lucifer

My favourite part of this ship is the banter between the two of them. They get each other, and keep each other on the toes. While the creators/writers may be playing the 'will they/won't they' trope with these two, I am hoping they continue to get closer as the show continues.

I love that each of them brings out something in the other. They make each other the best versions of themselves. Lucifer brings out a more fun side in Chloe, while Chloe inspires Lucifer to strive to be better. I love that this ship went from Chloe not really liking Lucifer, to this friendship that formed, to deeper feelings between them.

7. Daryl and Beth from Walking Dead

Beth may have been young, but she understood and got Daryl in a way that I really appreciated. This is another ship that sort of took me by surprise because I never would have put them together until the characters ended up spending time separated from the rest of the group.

Some confessions, and moonshine later and I was fully on board with them getting together. Sadly, as is the nature of this show, we never got to see what this ship could really be and I am still not over it. #You'llMissMeWhenI'mGone

Bonus Walking Dead ship - Glenn and Maggie

One of the most stable couples on The Walking Dead, and one of the cutest. They are so sweet and awkward together when they first meet, and quickly become a pair that is based on mutual respect and love. They loved each other fiercely in a world where it didn't seem possible.

I loved getting to see this relationship grow and blossom. They were a beacon of light and hope in this show that is usually all too brutal (and even they didn't get a happy ending).

8. Ethan and Vanessa from Penny Dreadful

This ship screamed heartbreak right from the start, so I (naturally) decided it would be wise to fall completely in love with them. The tragic and haunted Vanessa and the equally broken Ethan were a natural fit. They got each other. Add in a bit of fate and destiny to their relationship and I was sold.

The tragic ending of this one still angers me (for many reasons) but it was darkly beautiful and haunting while it (and the show) lasted.

9. Connor and Oliver from How To Get Away With Murder

This relationship is amazing when it works. Sadly, things (like murder and secrets) keep getting in the way of them being happy together.

I love what Oliver brings out in Connor. His character has grown so much and it is largely due to this relationship. Sadly, the changes to Oliver since Connor has come into his life have not all been positive ones. He is turning into someone that he may not even like and it could ruin this couple's chance at happiness. I did mention I liked the doomed ones.

10. Jamie and Claire from Outlander

Jamie and Claire certainly have a lot of things working against them - mainly that Claire is from a completely different time than he is. Their relationship however is filled with lots of sexiness, trust, and genuine love.

I love how much they've supported each other through everything that has happened to them. This couple's greatest obstacle is outside forces and that makes them all the more heartbreaking.

Baby Ships

I wanted to mention these two ships between younger characters on shows that I am enjoying. These are not full fledged ships yet but there is something adorable about the innocence they share.

Bruce and Selina from Gotham

Selina was certainly obsessed with kissing the young Master Wayne in season one. She often taunted and teased him about wanting to kiss her to my great amusement. She finally kisses a surprised Bruce and their adorable relationship has been up and down ever since.

We all know who Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle become so I doubt there is a happily ever after in their future but there is something about first love, and the innocence of their kiss that I cannot help but root for anyway.

Eleven and Mike from Stranger Things

First love and crushes are perfect television show fodder.  Most people can relate to having a crush for the first time. Mike and Eleven's very tentative and sweet relationship was only beginning to build before the events of the final episode happened. They were supposed to go to the Snow Ball!

My favourite moment is perhaps when Mike sees her after they give her a 'make over' so she can go to school with them and is obviously a little in awe of how pretty she looks. It's adorable, and so perfect for their ages.

I could list so many other ships, but these are the ten (or more) that have stayed with me. I have added a lot of shows to my watch list thanks to this podcast such as Shameless (for Ian and Mickey) and Parks and Rec (for Ben and Leslie). Are there other shows I should be watching? What ships make your top ten list? Let me know in the comments.

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

BOOK

Cover for The Becoming of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin (goodreads)

I loved the Mara Dyer trilogy fiercely, and was very excited when Michelle announced that she would be writing a sequel trilogy from Noah Shaw's point of view.

The cover was just released and it is as beautiful as the ones for original trilogy.

Stunning, right? I love that they have a similar tone and feel to the Mara covers, but are unique as well. I am so excited for this to be released, and have pre-ordered my copy!

Cover for Marissa Meyer's Renegades

I am so excited for this new series from Marissa Meyer and the cover is super fun!

A school for superheros and supervillains? Sounds amazing! I really like the comic book feel of the cover, it fits the description perfectly.

TV/MOVIE

iZombie renewed for season 4

The fact that this news caused me squeal with happiness should surprise nobody. I love this show, and feel it is so underrated. The cast is perfection and it has some of the smartest writing on television right now. It's so charming! Needless to say,  I am thrilled that Liv and the gang will be back for another season.

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

BOOK

Cover for Roomies by Christina Lauren

You probably saw this with my Waiting On Wednesday post this week BUT I had to share it again. I love everything about this cover!

I love that it is a romance novel without any people on the cover. I love the New York skyline, and the use of the wedding rings in the title. It's charming and reminds me of a rom-com movie which I am sure is the entire point. I cannot wait for this book!

TV/MOVIE

iZombie

I have sang this show's praises before, and I am sure I will do it again. The latest episode slayed me. It delivered phenomenal performances from all of the cast, and left me a crying mess by the time the hour was through. This show, for me, is one of the most criminally underrated shows on television right now. If you're not watching, please do. You won't regret it.

Baby Groot

I went to see Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 2 on Friday and was charmed. It's funny, and filled with a surprising amount of heart. Baby Groot, in particular, will steal your heart. He's even more adorable than you're expecting him to be (and that is pretty adorable)

He is seriously the cutest. I anticipate that most people who loved the first move will enjoy this one as well as it has everything you loved about the first one in abundance.

New To My Book Closet

It's that time of the week again. Time to show you what bookish goodies made their way into my home and book closet (to be saved from the evil book eating cat monster named Aria). This is inspired by the various "mailbox" posts out there (eg. In My Mailbox by The Story Siren, and Stacking the Shelves by Tynga's Reviews)

I had lots of fun things arrive into my mailbox this week!

First up, my third Liv Moore Funko Pop arrived!

Love that she is holding a bowl of brains and hot sauce!

Next up I purchased this pretty stunning hardcover!

Heartless by Marissa Meyer (goodreads)

I love how pretty the book is under the dust jacket. The chessboard is pretty perfect.

A huge thank you to HCC Frenzy/Harper Collins for the next arrival to my mailbox!

Fireworks by Katie Cotugno (goodreads)

I am so, so, so excited for this one! It's set in Florida during the 90's boy/girl band craze! I cannot wait!

Next up is a book from Penguin Random House Canada that I had not heard of but was instantly sold thanks to the amazing letter included.

Everything Beautiful Is Not Ruined by Danielle Younge-Ullman (goodreads)

It sounds amazing and I definitely recommend checking out the synopsis to see if you want to add it to your own 'tbr' shelf.

I also had to pick up this issue of Entertainment Weekly. How stunning is that dress?!

Also, the special effects for the beast are pretty awesome! I cannot wait to see this movie.

Lastly, I got a fun package from a friend that included some movies that I am excited to own!

I have not seen How To Be Single, but Cruel Intentions is one of my faves!

Happy Weekend and Happy Reading!

I had lots of fun things arrive in my mailbox this week!

First up is an addition to my ever growing Funko Pop collection. This is zombie mode Liv from iZombie and I think she is amazing!

Liv happens to be one of my favourite female characters so I was incredibly happy to be able to get this one.

I had ordered some tea from Adagio Tea. I mainly wanted some of the chocolate raspberry truffle flavour but I got some samplers with it as well!

The candy cane tea is delicious! I also am totally addicted to the chocolate raspberry truffle. Highly recommend both if they sound appealing.

Lastly, I would like to thank HarlequinTeen for the chance to read and review this next arrival!

Flower by Elizabeth Craft and Shea Olsen (goodreads)

Flower has been on my radar since I first heard about it. I feel like there is some mysterious aspect of this novel that the synopsis is just not revealing. I've also heard it is very steamy.

Happy Weekend and Happy Reading!

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

Lots to be excited about this week and I predict lots of people will be excited about this week's inclusions.

BOOK

Cover of Romancing The Throne by Nadine Jolie Courtney (goodreads)

The tagline kind of says it all - 'Two Sisters + One Prince =  Major Heartbreak. This has been described as Anne and Mary Boleyn or Kate and Pippa Middleton (if Pippa ever dated William first). I was immediately sold and this adorable cover has any cemented my need to own this book.

The cover is perfect and hopefully the story inside is just as amazing. I cannot wait for this one to be released. You may just see this one pop up on the blog later this year as well (*hint, hint*)

Cover of When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon (goodreads)

This book just recently came on my radar when the cover was revealed, but it sounds adorable and has an equally adorable cover to go with it.

The cover makes this look funny and light. It prefectly represents the romantic comedy the synopsis promises. I am excited to read this and discover Dimple and Rishi's love story.

OTHER

New Funko Pops

Funko has announced two new Pops that I MUST own.

First up is this amazing Breakfast at Tiffany's Pop! She's classy and elegant, just like Audrey.

She looks amazing and perfect and I cannot wait to add her to my collection.

Next is this incredibly fun Liv Moore Pop. I love iZombie and especially love this particular Liv Pop.

This whole Pop collecting thing has the potential to be a BIG problem, but I am having fun with it so far and cannot wait to see what Funko releases next.

New To My Book Closet.

A few goodies arrived in my mailbox this week.

First up, I purchased a new Funko Pop for my growing collection. I am so happy that they are making Pops for this particular show and I hope we get a full collection.

Yup, it's Liv Moore from iZombie! I want one for Ravi, Major, and Clive! I anticipate we'll get a Blaine Pop as well.

Next one of my pre-orders arrived. I am super excited to continue this series!

Broken Prince by Erin Watt (goodreads)

Lastly, I received my last #otspsecretsister package for this round. A HUGE thank you to Katrina (@RinaReadsBooks on Twitter) for being a fantastic 'sister'.

The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J Maas (goodreads)

This package was filled with favourite things and I loved it. Surprisingly I do not own the first three books in the Throne Of Glass series in hardcover so I was THRILLED to get one of them in my package. I love the Disney postcards and the Joker journal. The Alice in Wonderland soap made everything smell amazing! I am so happy to have gotten to know people better thanks to taking part in this and I cannot wait to sign up again.

What bookish items made their way into your mailbox this week?

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

BOOK

Cover of Caraval by Stephanie Garber (goodreads)

I have been obsessed with this book since I first heard of it. It sounds like a wonderful book filled with magic, sisters, romance and a dangerous but fantastic game.

Amazing cover, right? It is eye catching and fits the story (especially after reading the first 2 chapters over at Entertainment Weekly). If this one is not already on your autumn radar be sure to add it. I have a feeling it is going to be one of the hottest titles at BEA as well.

TV/MOVIE

Disney Live Action Peter Pan

Entertainment Weekly announced that Disney has a live action Peter Pan movie in the works. I want this to be amazing. I need this to be amazing. I need a perfectly cast Peter and Wendy. I need it to make my Peter Pan fangirl heart swell with happiness. I am excited to hear more details and see what casting choices they make.

iZombie Season 2 Finale

iZombie delivered another jaw dropping, game changing season two finale that left me impatient for the third season. Filled with clever puns (including a Rob Thomas - the musician, not the writer - cameo) and lots of action. There was romance, death, and plenty of set up for an exciting third season. If you haven't checked out this show yet DO SO IMMEDIATELY. You have time to catch up before the new season starts. It's got some of the most smartly written dialogue and a very addicting plot.

OTHER

Book Expo America

Three weeks from today my vacation will start and a few days after that I will be headed to Chicago for Book Expo America. Be sure to let me know if you are going in the comments.

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

BOOK

P.S. I Love You by Kasie West (goodreads)

I immediately added this to my 'To Be Read' list as soon as soon as I read the brief, but adorable sounding synopsis.
A girl finds herself falling for a mystery boy she exchanges letters with.
It's not much to go on but it sounds cute, and I've heard amazing things about Kasie West! I cannot wait for more information.

TV/MOVIE

iZombie

I am so hooked on this show. I love Rose McIver's charming performance. I love the chemistry between Liv and Lowell. I love friendship between Liv and Ravi (I basically just love Ravi). The larger mystery of the show is only beginning to unravel and I am so happy that it was already renewed for a second season.

OTHER

Book Expo America

Tuesday will be 2 weeks until I am officially in NYC for Book Expo America. I only have 11 work shifts left before I am on vacation. I am very much looking forward to both being on vacation and being in NYC. I have a lot of things to do between now and leaving so it's going to both take forever to get here and come much too quickly.

2016 Most Anticipated Event

We're almost at the halfway mark for 2015. This means I, a person who plans well in advance, will start working on my 2016 Most Anticipated Event. I already have a list of books that I will whittle down to a short list later on in July/August and I have some plans to make this year's event even more amazing. I am really looking forward to learning more about the 2016 releases that I am already excited for and discovering new ones as well!
