The next book on my 2021 most anticipated list is perfect for people who love reality dating shows, retellings, and fashion. It'll also appeal to all those Disney fans out there.
Julie Murphy's If The Shoe Fits offers a contemporary take on the classic Cinderella story and mixes in a reality television show along with a heroine who loves fashion.
The Goodreads synopsis makes this book sound like an absolutely delightful read that is going to be on a lot of must read lists for 2021.
After having just graduated with a degree in shoe design, and trying to get her feet on the ground, Cindy is working for her stepmother, who happens to be the executive producer of America's favorite reality show, Before Midnight. When a spot on the show needs filling ASAP, Cindy volunteers, hoping it might help jump-start her fashion career, or at least give her something to do while her peers land jobs in the world of high fashion.Turns out being the only plus size woman on a reality dating competition makes a splash, and soon Cindy becomes a body positivity icon for women everywhere. What she doesn't expect? That she may just find inspiration-and love-in the process. Ultimately, Cindy learns that if the shoe doesn't fit, maybe it's time to design your own.
Here are the top three reasons I cannot wait to get my hands on this book:
1. It's offering up a unique twist on Cinderella. Combing the Cinderella tale with a reality dating show seems like an obvious fit. It's remaining true to the feel of the inspiration while making it also feel wildly different.
2. The fact that Julie Murphy is writing it. I've loved Julie Murphy's previous books and have no doubt that she'll provide us with a wonderful, charming read filled with equally charming romance.
3. It's the start of a series. Disney is behind this and they are using it to launch the Meant To Be series. I predict we'll get other classic Disney stories given a modern twist and written by some beloved authors. I personally hope it ends up as a series on Disney+ as well.
If The Shoe Fits releases August 3, 2021 which is perfect timing for a beach/pool side read. It'll go perfectly with your sunblock in your beach tote.
