Blue Lily, Lily Blue continues the deliciously written story of Blue Sargent, and the group of guys known as The Raven Boys. This is a story is filled with wishes, dreams, and excruciating not quite kisses. Things heat up as their search for Glendower is quickly approaching it's end.

It's no secret that Maggie Stiefvater's writing is stunning. It's been praised by many and with good reason. What I appreciate about her writing the most is how she captures her characters. Each of these characters is messed up and struggling with their own thing. They could have been characters that were solely their problems. Instead she's created these rich, complex characters and connections that make you ache and feel.

The characters that breath life into this series are what captivated me most. You'll have plenty of feelings about them, ship different couples, and this may be the only book in which you pray for a kiss not to happen. The relationships they forge between each other is the glue of the story, and the catalyst for everything that happens in the story. It's what drives the reader, and keeps you interested.

The romances, or potential ones, are excruciating and teasing. Blue and Gansey's continued tightrope walk between fighting and giving into their feelings is fraught with tension. Their best scenes happen in cars, and this installment is no exception. Those who already want them together will be obsessed at the end of this installment. Other highlights in the (potential/in my head) romance department is Ronan telling someone that 'maybe I dreamt you'. Those who swooned when Ronan revealed Adam was one of his secrets will secretly (or not so secretly) flail. Their friendship is expanded and deepened in this novel, and the connection they have is intriguing.

As torturous and enticing as the romance aspect is, it's the friendships that make this series as heart wrenching as it is. Blue's assessment that "they were all in love with one another" is accurate. Each of them cares about the other, and each of them would do anything for the others. It's a defining, obsessive friendship. The kind that changes you, and that is the heart of the story.

Gansey's foretold death is a looming, all encompassing thing that haunts the pages of the novel. Blue is haunted by it, as is the reader. This novel continuously makes you heartbreakingly aware that his death is coming. It feels inevitable, and like fate. You'll end this novel hoping that they find a way to defy fate because any other outcome is unfathomable at this point.

A complex, mystical tale that lets it's characters come to life. If you haven't started this series, I recommend catching up before the explosive finale. Glendower looms ever closer, and I can't wait to see what awaits Blue and her Raven Boys.

Love this cover. So pretty right? Totally love it. It's soft, and pretty and that bracelet on her wrist ties in with the synopsis perfectly. I've noticed books about jinn (genies) are becoming a new thing with a lot of them expected to be released in the next little bit.This one sounds amazing, and also deals with human trafficking. Cannot wait to pick this one up while at Book Expo America.

Sisterhood Everlasting movie news

I loved the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series. LOVED. The last book, Sisterhood Everlasting, was heartbreaking, beautiful, and I've totally wanted them to make it into a movie since I finished reading it. According to Entertainment Weekly, I am going to get my wish. It's apparently 'in development' and I hope it happens quickly. The original cast, especially the girls, have to return. Otherwise it won't feel the same. They are the right age, and were so perfectly cast. I look forward to more information, and hopefully casting details are next!

Book Expo America autographing schedule

Part one of the autographing schedule at BEA was unveiled. The in booth signings are still to come, but what we do have is pretty awesome already. Plenty of amazing signings that have left my head spinning with how lucky I am to attend. My nieces (one in particular) has recently gotten addicted to Goosebumps books. R.L. Stine is going to be signing one, and I going to cement my Coolest Aunt Ever status by getting them one!

Authors I am excited to meet for myself? The list is SO long but includes - Rebecca Serle, Josephine Angelini, Morgan Matson, Chelsey Philpot, and Danielle Paige. These are without the in booth list being unveiled and are just a small sample. Is it May yet?!

I enjoyed Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn a lot, and cannot wait to read Dark Places. I read Shiver and really enjoyed it, so I grabbed Linger and hope to finish off the trilogy before Sinner comes out. Dance of the Red Death is a replacement for the copy my friend destroyed (said friend is never borrowing a book from me again). Lastly, A Long Way Down is an impulse purchase because I saw the trailer for the movie, and had to read the book.

I also got two review books. A huge thank you to Raincoast Books for these. I've heard good things about both of them.

Werewolf mythology is often hit or miss with me. I either don't feel immersed into it, or it's not fleshed out enough for me. Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver introduces what is not only my favourite twist on the mythology to date, but a subtly sensual approach to it as well.

The cold creeps through these pages. Like a thief, it steals moments Sam should have. It steals breaths and it will ultimately steal what is left of Sam's human life. It's an ever present thing that is never far from the minds of the characters (or readers). It creates a knife's edge that the characters are balancing on. Maggie Stiefvater uses words to allow her readers to feel the chill. There plenty of shivers for both the characters and reader.

The stakes are high for Sam and Grace. Their carefully concealed truth could come crashing down on them at any minute. There are outside threats that could tear them apart. The cold is perhaps their most pressing threat though. Sam could turn and leave Grace behind until summer.....if he comes back at all. The nagging worry that Sam's time as a human is limited tore my heart to bits, as you just want what Sam wants - for him to remain human. It creates a boiling urgency that can't be ignored .The inclusion of the temperature at the beginning of the chapters only increased my distress as we see it crawl slowly lower.

There is an instant ease that Grace and Sam have with each other. They are on the same wavelength immediately. It's like a puzzle piece falling into place. It's one of the rare occasions where this type of connection doesn't feel rushed or forced. Sam and Grace just feel right. They intersperse light moments that make the relationship feel developed, even though it does happen rather quickly. It might be helped that both Grace and Sam are wonderful. Sam is one of the best love interests I've read. He's flirty but respectful. He's concerned without being over protective. Grace is determined, wistful, and a bit of a dreamer. She's fascinated and pulled to the wolves in a way that she can't explain. They mesh well together, and make you want them to be together.

Maggie Stiefvater has a way with language and words. Her writing is compelling and captivating. This novel is no exception. Her writing is the showcase, but she uses it to bring her characters and the setting to life in the pages. She manages to make the characters feel fleshed out, even the secondary characters. The woods add mystery to the wolves, and the setting. It's all woven together to create something I couldn't read fast enough.

A novel that allows it's characters to be the focus, even while the high stakes action takes place. Shiver is a thrilling start to a series and I can't wait to immerse myself back into this world.

Maggie Stiefvater has created a magical world that drew me in completely while reading The Raven Boys. The Dream Thieves takes the world she's created and adds to it, but also turns it upside down. She adeptly avoids the dreaded "second book syndrome" and leaves you spellbound, and breathless.

The writing in this novel is some of the best I've read this year. Maggie Stiefvater ignites feelings with ease, and brings forth her character's personalities effortlessly. She manages to up the ante from The Raven Boys by creating dangers that are not just outside influences, but personal demons as well. Each of our beloved characters is grappling with something, and Maggie never lets you forget that a ticking clock around them is pressing as well. This novel is an unraveling of sorts. The characters are becoming increasingly unstable, just like the ley line. More and more power is coursing through the town, and the inevitability of something big happening is suffocating not just the reader, but the characters as well.

The characters have fully worked their way into my heart, so much in fact that this book left me a mess of feelings. The connection as a reader is effortless. You naturally want to embrace these characters, flaws and all. You want to protect them from themselves, and most importantly, you want to join them. You want to take this journey with them, regardless of how much it hurts sometimes.

Ronan is the primary focus in this novel. I knew his tough exterior hid a much  more broken center. We learn a lot about him, his family, and what is hidden underneath his bravado. After Ronan's admission about Chainsaw at the end of The Raven Boys, he was the one I was most interested in getting to know more about. The Dream Thieves does not disappoint. I finished with a deeper understanding of Ronan's motivations, and secrets.

Allowing us to see a different side to these characters is something Maggie Stiefvater does extremely well. In this novel, Gansey especially shows different sides to himself. The complexity of all the characters is stunning. The attention to detail, the research, the plotting, and the way everything weaves together is mind blowing. The foreshadowing that allows clues, but still manages to keep the novel's secrets until the author is ready for you to know them is another testament to Maggie Stiefvater's talent.

Blue grapples with her curse. She doesn't want to fall in love. Doesn't want to be responsible for the kiss that would kill her true love. She grapples with the secret she has - that Gansey will be dead before the next St. Mark's Eve. The ways in which this impacts her are heartfelt and authentic. She is quickly becoming one of my favourite female characters.

The romance in this is not what I anticipated at all. Maggie Stiefvater throws what could be a possible romance triangle and shows us why she doesn't need them to create drama. She uses other means to rip her reader's hearts out. Kisses (and almost kisses) have never been more devastatingly heart crushing than in this novel. Each kiss, and almost kiss is destroying for different reasons.

A stunning series filled with magic, heartbreaking kisses, and more danger than anticipated. Finding Glendower will not be without sacrifice, and I for one can't wait to join Blue, and her Raven Boys on the rest of this twisted journey.

I love the simplicity of this cover, and the slightly creepy vibe that matches the synopsis perfectly. I am loving that the title numbers look exactly like ones on an alarm clock (non digital obviously).

Okay so this really has more to do with the name than the cover. I am not partial either way to this cover, but the name...oh the name is PERFECT! The Dream Thieves, for those who have read The Raven Boys, is such a fitting title. I am intrigued and am dying for a synopsis to be released. I can't wait for more Gansey!

Stunning. I really LOVE this cover. The striking red dress against that pale green wallpaper stands out and each of these covers has such an eye catching pose for the model on the front. I think this is actually my favourite of the three. Add it to Goodreads if haven't already.

The water cascading as her dress is quite pretty. The mystical look to the city behind her piques by interest, especially after reading the synopsis! 'A girl who got her heart broken and cried an entire continent into the sea' leaves me with thoughts of Atlantis.

Once Upon A Time

This Sunday is the episode I have waited a long time for. The one in which we get answers. The one in which   not one but two of my favourite characters are set to return. Also one that will prove my guessing skills correct once again. I am so invested in this show that I literally have a bottle of wine, tissues, and chocolate ready for what is sure to be an emotionally draining episode for me. *Yes, I get too attached to TV/book characters. It's a thing*

This week I ended up going to Toronto to go to the Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian signing. It was a quick trip there and back in one day. I totally owe my friend for driving the 5 hours there and turning around and driving 5 hours back.

The signing was awesome, and both Jenny and Siobhan are lovely.

The awesome Burn for Burn poster that Jenny and Siobhan were giving out at the signings. It's awesome and I am really happy to have one. I can't wait for Fire with Fire!

While at the signing I found out that the bookstore had some signed copies of The Raven Boys in stock. Since I was planning on buying a copy anyways, I figured I should get one that was signed while there.

Love and death are entwined for Blue. She is destined to kill her true love with a kiss. The connection of love and death to this story  is something that is woven throughout the entire book. The themes explored in the novel are deep and though provoking. There is so much going on, and so many passages that could be significant later on the series that this book almost demands a second reading. The complex plot is one of the strongest aspects of the novel, and Maggie Stiefvater's ability to connect everything is awe inspiring. Her writing is filled with beautiful descriptive passages that make even the smallest thing seem to sparkle.

Blue’s Raven Boys are damaged, crushingly heartbreaking, and filled with wonder. Each of them will grab at your heart and not let go. Adam is the scholarship student with a violent home life. He may have touched me the most. I wanted to protect him from his wretched home life. I found his stubbornness to accept help both infuriating and admirable. Noah, the quiet boy who observes everyone and everything. His secrets run deep and once revealed change everything. Ronan is hot tempered, filled with sadness, and yet there is something underneath all that bravado. His gentleness with his raven touched me.  Lastly, the unofficial leader, Gansey. A young man who is always searching for something more and he borderlines on the obsessive. He’s endearing in his awkwardness and is always trying to do what he believes is right. Each of the boys is crush worthy in their own way and Ms. Stiefvater manages to make each of them fully realized so that each feels tangible. The friendship between the boys is filled with darkness, beauty and a fierce loyalty. Blue manages to fit in, and be accepted by them and the author makes you see how she completes them.

This novel’s romance is wonderfully done.  It is understated and not the main focus of the novel, even with Blue’s curse. There is no instant love, but rather a flash that could turn into something more. It’s multiple crushes that have potential rather than multiple loves. It feels natural and refreshing. The connections that are being made could blossom into something deeper and I am invested in who ultimately works their way into Blue’s heart. Blue’s reactions to things rang true to a teenager developing crushes, and I fell right along with her.

A fantastic plot, mixed with magic and some stunning writing makes The Raven Boys one not to be missed. Maggie Stiefvater’s incredible characters will draw you in and make you invested right from the beginning. I am desperately wanting to continue this journey of energy, love, death and sleeping kings with Blue and her beautiful Raven Boys.

Hunger Games Trailer # 2



So you've seen this right? About 1,000,000 times right? It's perfection. Cinna! I have come to really love the thought of Lenny Kravitz as Cinna now. When he puts his finger to his lips after putting the Mockingjay pin on Katniss...goosebumps. The wait for March seems endless! Goes without saying that you will all be getting your tickets early right?!
