Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

BOOK

Cover of Anne and Henry by Dawn Ius (goodreads)

Super cute right? I helped reveal the cover and think it's fun and eye catching! I love the idea of a modernized version of the story of Anne Boleyn and King Henry, too. I think it's going to be a really interesting read.

As I Descended by Robin Talley (goodreads)

Kelly (from Kellyvision) and I were just discussing that when people do a retelling of Shakespeare it's normally Romeo and Juliet. We expressed how badly we wanted a Macbeth retelling and the book gods listened because Harper Collins is giving us one!

As I Descended is...
a retelling of Macbeth set at a contemporary Virginia boarding school. It centers around a lesbian couple who set out to dethrone the school's resident Mean Girl, only to find themselves struggling to hang onto their sanity and their lives when they accidentally summon a trio of brutal, manipulative ghosts.
Sounds amazing right? I basically need this book immediately. It doesn't come out until 2016 though.

TV/MOVIE

Into The Woods trailer

I love this trailer. This is the first time we're hearing the singing part of this musical and I am REALLY excited now. I cannot wait to go see this. I am hoping Boxing Day with some friends.

OTHER

Christmas shopping (and other Christmas stuff)

I've officially started my Christmas shopping. I already have 5 people done (my three nieces included) and hope to be done early this year.

I am also taking part in the Secret Santa thing hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Last year was a lot of fun so I am excited to go shopping for that. The Ottawa bloggettes are also hosting a holiday celebration and I am excited to shop for my person for that gift exchange.

I am even looking forward to Christmas music. Everything is still shiny, and happy and magical (ask me again mid December) so I am loving it. I am also loving that there is basically candy cane EVERYTHING right now.

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

A smaller obsessions post this week! Here are my obsessions this week:

BOOK

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

My flailing about this one is because of Jamie at The Broke and the Bookish. She has made me NEED to read this one. Katie at Bookishly Yours brought it to my attention and after reading Jamie's Goodreads review I am obsessed. Have I mentioned that 2014 is going to be the year of awesome books? Because it totally is.

MOVIE/TV

Catching Fire

I was late to the party but I FINALLY got to see Catching Fire. AMAZING, right? I totally adore Finnick. Sam Claflin impressed me. I was nervous about how Finnick would be portrayed, but he did a fantastic job. Jennifer Lawrence is, as always, perfection. Josh Hutcherson is perfect as Peeta. I don't know how you couldn't be a little in love with Peeta after this movie. The message and tone of the book came through perfectly. Some of the marketing of the movie hurts my heart, because it totally goes against the message of the entire series, but the movie showed exactly what made me fall in love with this series. Oh, and I would totally tell Finnick all my secrets.

Reign

Still totally loving this show. It's surprised me, and I am fully hooked. Doesn't hurt that Francis is pretty swoon worthy (most of the time). A strong Queen, a dashing Prince, and some fun twists make this deliciously fun TV! Check it out if you're not already hooked.

OTHER

Lindor Chocolate Calendar

Tomorrow is December 1st! That means I get to start my countdown to Christmas with my yearly chocolate calendar. Every year I get one, and Lindor is my FAVOURITE chocolate so this calendar is basically perfect for me.

New To My Book Closet....sort of

It's that time of the week again. Time to show you what bookish goodies made their way into my home and book closet (to be saved from the evil book eating cat monster named Aria). This is inspired by the various "mailbox" posts out there (eg. In My Mailbox by The Story Siren, and Stacking the Shelves by Tynga's Reviews).

This week's mailbox is something a little different. I do not have any new books to show, but I do have other goodies.

I went to Disney World this past week, and am going to show off the one present I got myself while there. My favourite part of the trip was getting to see the new Fantasyland area. The Beauty and the Beast area is stunning. From Belle's village (complete with Maurice's home, and Gaston's Tavern), to Prince Adam's castle (aka the Beast) the detail is amazing. I will be offering a full recap on Tuesday but I picked up a wine glass in one of the new shops next to the beyond awe inspiring Be Our Guest restaurant.

While I was away I received my first Christmas card of the season! It was from the lovely Lindsay from Me on Books. It's super cute, and I hope mine to her actually gets to her before Christmas.

I am off to recover from my vacation! The blog resumes regular schedule on Monday with a guest post! Happy Sunday and Happy Reading!

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

Here are my obsessions this week:

BOOKS

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

I can't believe I have not read this earlier. It is dark, twisty, and f#@cked up in the best ways. This novel is most likely making it on my "Top Reads of 2012" list that is coming in December. If you haven't read it - DO SO! Just be sure to not spoiler yourself ANYTHING. It's a book that you need to experience as things unfold.

OTHER

DisneyWorld

On December 8th I will be leaving to head to Florida for a week holiday with my family. We are introducing my little nieces to the magical world of Disney. I am so excited for them to meet Cinderella especially. It's going to be a wonderful experience!

Christmas Holidays

As the end of the November comes near I start to get really excited about Christmas. I am WAY behind in shopping this year (blame Disney) and I am looking forward to getting some gifts out of the way soon. I love spending the holidays with my family and it really is one of my favourite times of the year.

New To My Book Closet

It's that time of the week again. Time to show you what bookish goodies made their way into my home and book closet (to be saved from the evil book eating cat monster named Aria). This is inspired by the various "mailbox" posts out there (eg. In My Mailbox by The Story Siren, and Stacking the Shelves by Tynga's Reviews).

One book for me this week, but some other goodies I wanted to include as well.

The Evolution of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin (goodreads)

Simon and Schuster Canada was lovely to send me a copy of this. I have already read an eARC of this so I will letting a fellow blogger take it off my hands so that it gets reviewed by them.

I have been obsessed with tea recently and have discovered David's Tea. They have awesome flavours and their teas are amazing. I have just fallen in love with Toasted Marshmallow! It's a perfect fall tea. I can't wait to try more flavours.

I love Christmas. It's my favourite holiday. I always get a Christmas countdown chocolate calendar. Now that I am an adult (at least in age) I still get a calendar, but the chocolate is higher quality. I love these countdowns and am pouting over the fact that I can't touch this until December. My defense for buying this now? They sell out by the end of September every year.

I was BEYOND excited to find a copy of The Craft on DVD. I have been looking for this everywhere. Can not wait to watch it.

Happy Sunday and Happy Reading!

Virtual Advent Calendar Tour

You may have heard about the Virtual Advent Calendar Blog Tour that is going on right now. Today is my stop.

Ever since I was young Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer has always been my favourite Christmas cartoon. Watching it is what made it feel like Christmas for me. It is what, in my opinion, kicks off the holiday season.

It brings back memories of hot chocolate and sugar cookies at home. It brings back memories of my two younger sisters singing the words wrong. More recently, it makes me remember wrapping presents with the room mates I used to live with.

I also love the message it sets forth. You shouldn't judge someone by their appearance, because they might just surprise you. Sadly, I think it is a message that will never not be needed.

What is your favourite Christmas classic? What makes it feel like Christmas for you? Tell me in the comments.

Merry Christmas Everyone!
