Here is the Goodreads synopsis
Beth’s life hasn’t been the same since her sister died. Her parents try to lock her down, believing they can keep her safe by monitoring her every move. When Beth sneaks out to a party one night and meets the new guy in town, Chase, she’s thrilled to make a secret friend. It seems a small thing, just for her.

Only Beth doesn’t know how big her secret really is…

Fresh out of juvie and determined to start his life over, Chase has demons to face and much to atone for, including his part in the night Beth’s sister died. Beth, who has more reason than anyone to despise him, is willing to give him a second chance. A forbidden romance is the last thing either of them planned for senior year, but the more time they spend together, the deeper their feelings get.

Now Beth has a choice to make—follow the rules, or risk tearing everything apart…again.
I was intrigued by One Small Thing after reading the synopsis. It sounded so different than all the previous Erin Watt novels, and I was curious to see what they would do with this premise. It ended up being a well crafted look at grief, the people who are left behind after a tragedy, and the process of healing. It also was a lot more than that as well.

Erin Watt's previous novels have been fun, soapy, addictive reads that went at a high octane pace. This book is a complete game changer for them. This one is more quiet, but also deals with issues in a much more direct way than the previous novels did. It's a step in a different direction that I think may open them up to new fans because of how different than their previous works.

Beth and her parents are in a state of stasis after the death of Rachel. They are each dealing with their grief in different ways and not dealing with it in others. The tension in their household is stifling and so are the rules that Beth's parents enforce out of a desperate need to keep her safe. It was crushing to experience this broken family continue to spiral when it was clear they needed each other. Their actions are coming from a place of both love and hurt and that makes from some explosives circumstances. The book easily allows you to place yourself in this situation and the heartbreak each of the family members are carrying with them.

The forbidden romance element was the part I was most concerned about before I picked up this novel. Chase played a role in Rachel's death. This should mean that Beth wants nothing to do with him but when they meet, without knowing their previous connection, sparks fly. This part of the plot was, in my opinion, handled really well. Chase's actions are never excused but the point is made that he shouldn't pay for those actions forever. He punishes himself more than anyone else could, and I think that part of his character allows for a lot of sympathy from the reader. It also helps that the situation is so very different than what I anticipated going into the story.

There was an unexpected part of the plot that dealt with abusive relationships that I felt was also handled rather well. It is used not only to contrast Chase's character but show that people are not always as we perceive them to be. There is also an undercurrent of girls supporting each other and being there for each other that I found really resonated. I didn't expect it to examine any of this and was surprised at how well it folded into the main plot of the story. It felt effortless and not tacked on at any point.

One Small Thing is a book that tackles a lot of hard topics but manages to do them quite well. There is a lot of substance to this one as well as a lot of heart. The title reference is a hopeful one, and that is ultimately the note that this story is left off on. I think many readers will enjoy this emotion filled offering from Erin Watt and enjoy their time with Beth and Chase.

Here is the Goodreads synopsis
These Royals will ruin you.

Ever since Hartley Wright met Easton Royal, her life hasn’t been the same. There are enemies behind every corner and dangers beyond each door. When tragedy strikes and steals her memories, she can’t trust anyone, not even the blue-eyed boy who promises her that everything will be all right.

Because while Hartley’s memory is full of gaps, her instincts tell her Easton is dangerous. She doesn’t know if he’s the snake in the garden or her chance at salvation. The chaos he brings wherever he goes is too much to handle, the intense feelings he evokes are too confusing to unravel.

Easton wants her to remember. Hartley thinks it’s better to forget.

She might be right.

Tragedy. Treachery. Trust. Hartley has to face the facts—in this world, you can’t escape the Royals.

Either you live by their rules or you die by them.
The ending of a series always brings mixed emotions. I am sad to leave behind the world and characters I love so much, but excited to finally know the end to the story I've been following over multiple books. It brings both excitement and sadness in equal measure. I approached Cracked Kingdom with both eagerness and trepidation. I had no cause for worry because Erin Watt crafted an addictive ending to their series that offered up a satisfying, if rushed, conclusion.

The cliffhanger ending of Fallen Heir ensured that fans of this series would be figuratively dying to get their hands on the next installment. The life of one of our beloved Royals hung in the balance, and we all wanted to know his fate. The outcome of this is rather interesting, so I will not ruin it. This event is mostly used, surprisingly, to showcase how it impacts others. It is used quite effectively to show how much some characters have grown since we first met them. I, however, wanted to examine the impact on the person who would be left dealing with the reality and consequences. That is, perhaps, a story for another day and one that I hope is eventually told.

Hartley shows herself to be a resourceful, adaptable, strong young woman who faces her memory loss much better than I would. She could easily give up and become bitter, but she instead decides to make her own path. She is different from Ella but just as formidable in her own way and offers a differing perspective on the Royal family that is entirely welcome.

I appreciated that Easton always remained true to who his character is during the course of his journey. He grows, but it never changes who he is or makes him do things that would be out of character. It just makes him a more decent version of himself. It shows that the authors really know who his character is. They have what happens to him impact him instead of defining him which is sometimes hard to do in a story with this many life altering events happening.

The pacing is full speed as we rush towards an end to not only this novel but the series as a whole. It, at times, felt like the authors could have used a little more time to polish up this final installment, but it is nonetheless a fun, exciting closing chapter to the story of the Royals .... even if I wish we were getting a trilogy from another Royal's perspective.

If you're looking for something that is the literary equivalent of a CW television show than this is the series for you. It packs in as much sex, drama, bad decision making, and angst as you could possibly want into its three hundred and some pages. The entire series is a fun read that will have you completely addicted the entire time you are reading them. I cannot wait to read whatever Erin Watt rights next. I can only hope that it is just as debaucherous and scandal filled as this series was.

The books in The Royals series are so dangerously addictive and I am so glad that I am very close to getting my next 'fix' because it feels like it has been forever (even though it really hasn't been that long).

The cliffhanger ending of the previous books in Easton's story left me desperate to get my hands on the next (and possible final) installment in this series. I cannot wait to see what happens next. and luckily I don't have to wait very long. It's only a few short hours away from the books March 1st release!

Waiting On Wednesday .... One Small Thing

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pick is One Small Thing by Erin Watt

Here is the Goodreads synopsis
From #1 New York Times bestselling author duo Erin Watt comes an addictive new contemporary YA tale of a girl who falls for the boy who inadvertently killed her sister in a car accident—perfect for fans of Sarah Dessen, Kasie West and Huntley Fitzpatrick.

17-year-old Libby's life hasn't been the same since the night two years ago when her older sister Rachel was struck and killed by a passing car driven by a rebellious 15-year-old on a joyride. Since then, Libby's parents have kept her on a tight leash, believing they can keep her safe only by controlling her every move and knowing where she is at all times. But when Libby sneaks out to a party one night and meets Chase, a hot 17-year-old who's new to the area, she's thrilled to make a friend—or maybe more—whom she can keep a secret from her parents.

Only she doesn't know how big a secret it really is. Because Chase is actually Charlie, the boy who'd accidentally killed Rachel with his car on a night he'll regret forever. Newly out of juvie, he's been sent to live in a new town with his mother and her new husband, the town's mayor. And though he's determined to start his life over and make amends, the classmates at his new school aren't eager to let him forget the sins of his past. Shockingly, Libby, who has more reason than anyone to want nothing to do with him, is willing to give him a second chance despite what her friends and parents think of him. For her own protection, Chase insists their friendship remain a secret. Yet the more time they spend together, the more their feelings start to deepen--and the more determined Libby becomes to clear Chase's name, even if it costs her relationships with those who mean the most to her.
I love Erin Watt's novels and I am so excited to be getting another one next year. This one sounds perfect for contemporary YA fans and like it has the potential to rip your heart out.

It's a summer release, so there is quite a bit of a wait, but it sounds like it'll be a fantastic choice to bring to the beach.

Here is the Goodreads synopsis
These Royals will ruin you.

Easton Royal has it all: looks, money, intelligence. His goal in life is to have as much fun as possible. He never thinks about the consequences because he doesn’t have to.

Until Hartley Wright appears, shaking up his easy life. She’s the one girl who’s said no, despite being attracted to him. Easton can’t figure her out and that makes her all the more irresistible.

Hartley doesn’t want him. She says he needs to grow up.

She might be right.

Rivals. Rules. Regrets. For the first time in Easton’s life, wearing a Royal crown isn’t enough. He’s about to learn that the higher you start, the harder you fall.
Lies. Murder, Secrets. Seduction. These are just some of the debaucherous things found within Erin Watt's Royals series. Pair this with a cast of characters that instantly intrigue you and you have the makings of an addictive read. Fallen Heir starts Easton's chapter of the Royal's story, and just in case you thought Erin Watt couldn't ruin you any further, this book does exactly that.

Easton's character is exactly who I anticipated he would be. There is something comforting to discovering that the voice you imagined a character's point of view having is exactly right. It makes you feel a connection with the character immediately because you feel, as a reader, that you already know them. Easton definitely gives Reed competition for the title of Most Badly Behaved Royal but it just makes his journey all the more rewarding. I feel like we've gotten to know this character a lot more thanks to this continuation of the story. I can only hope that the other Royal brothers get a series of their own as I am not nearly done with this world or these characters.

Character growth is important. This is especially true if the character is a hot mess the way that Easton Royal is. Character growth really only works for me when it feels natural to the character, and makes sense within the story arc being told. My favourite part of Easton's progression is that even when the growth he experiences he never stops feeling like Easton. His character doesn't magically morph into something he is not. He may be making better choices, but he's still Easton. There are also multiple backslides that felt organic to who Easton is. There is always a chance of his reverting to his old ways, or making a decision that has lethal consequences. He has the potential for goodness, but can also spiral into darkness. This duality is why I think he's so fascinating. I cannot wait to see the rest of the journey his character takes, and the direction he continues in.

The girl who is to tame Easton Royal could have easily been a retread of Ella. I was worried about her being another Ella and was thrilled to see that this is not he case. Hartley is broken in her own way. She has a different kind of strength to her than Ella's fierce streak, but she is no less interesting. Her connection with Easton is fun to see develop as he realizes his feelings, and she slowly lowers the walls she has built around herself.

The stakes in this installment of the Royals story feel even higher than they have previously. The ending, to nobody's surprise, packs multiple punches that left me reeling. I am entirely invested in the outcome of Easton's chapter of this story. My need for the next book is only matched by my concern over the outcome of the events that unfolded in the closing chapters of this book. It's a rare occurrence that an author can manage to amp up the tension with each installment and leave you breathless at the end of each book for different reasons, but Erin Watt nails it.

This series continues to be a scandalous, decadent, twist filled treat that keeps on delivering. It's a must read for those wanting something compulsively readable, and entirely addictive. You'll be left screaming by this torturous, jaw dropping ending and immediately bemoan the agonizing wait for all your answers.

It is no secret that I love The Royals series by Erin Watt. I devoured the first three books in this series and cannot wait to continue with Easton's story! These books are wickedly fun and filled with things that would make even the Gossip Girl characters blush.

The first part of Easton's story comes out in just a couple weeks, so there is barely any wait at all for this one!

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday

BOOK

Cover Of Fallen Heir by Erin Watt (goodreads)

Pretty much from the second Erin Watt announced a series about Reid, I have been desperate for any details about the novel.

The cover was recently revealed, along with the synopsis and both have made me even more excited to get my hands on it when it is released in August.

This cover is going to look perfect next to the others on my bookshelf.

TV/MOVIE

Mr Robot Season 3 Teaser Trailer

I cannot wait for Mr Robot to come back! I was very sad when it got pushed from summer to the fall because I wanted answers from the ending of the last season.

They have just released a teaser trailer for the upcoming season and it's only made me more excited.

It seems that both Angela and Tyrell are wearing the "Mr Robot" mask in the trailer. It also boasts the most Tyrell I have ever seen in a Mr Robot teaser. It bodes well for his screen time this season. Tyrell, for me, is one of the most interesting characters on the show and I want to know more about him. I am probably the only person wishing away the remains of summer, but I cannot wait to have my fall television back.

Call Me By Your Name trailer

It is the time of year when all the Oscar bait movies release their trailers and the first one that caught my attention was Call Me By Your Name.

It would appear that this one has taboo, or forbidden romance between a teen boy and an older man. It is based on a book (which I have not read) and from what I understand there are some pretty risque elements to the story. Armie Hammer has been praised for his performance, and I am excited to see what he can do with a meatier role. This one looks poised to be all over the place come awards season so it is on my must see list for the fall season.

Here is the Goodreads synopsis
From #1 New York Times bestselling author duo Erin Watt comes the addictive contemporary tale of a teen rock star in need of an image makeover and the teen girl hired to be his fake girlfriend.

Meet Oakley Ford-teen celebrity, renowned pop star, child of famous movie stars, hottie with millions of fangirls… and restless troublemaker. On the surface he has it all, but with his home life disintegrating, his music well suddenly running dry, and the tabloids having a field day over his outrageous exploits, Oakley's team decides it's time for an intervention. The result: an image overhaul, complete with a fake girlfriend meant to show the world he's settled down.

Enter seventeen-year-old Vaughn Bennett-devoted sister, part-time waitress, the definition of "normal." Under ordinary circumstances she'd never have taken this gig, but with her family strapped for cash, she doesn't have much of a choice. And for the money Oakley's team is paying her, she figures she can put up with outlandish Hollywood parties and a team of publicists watching her every move. So what if she thinks Oakley's a shallow, self-centered jerk? It's not like they're going to fall for each other in real life…right?
It is no secret that I loved Erin Watt's Royals series. I was excited when I heard that they would be releasing another young adult novel about a teen pretending to date a pop star and what happens when they may not be faking it any longer. While this novel could not be more different than the Royals series in tone, it is the from 'hate-to-love' pop star romance of your dreams. Erin Watt offers up a fun read that hits all the right notes.

Erin Watt proved they can switch comfortably between genres with this novel. They can do twisted and dark (like the Royals series) and more rom-com fare with equal ease. It makes me eager for what else this author might branch out into in the future.

When we first meet Oakley he is egotistical, spoiled, and used to getting his own way. He is also incredibly driven and wants nothing more than to be taking seriously as an artist again. The Vaughn we first meet is used to dealing with some of life's hardest punches. She grew up quickly because she had to. Her story is filled with heartbreak and plenty of time spent worrying. The journey these characters take in this novel is woven into the romance in a believable way. It, surprisingly, makes the celebrity aspect of the novel feel more plausible and realistic. The more we get to know each of them, the more real the story becomes.

I love story in which the relationship goes from hate to love. Vaughn and Oakley don't exactly have the best first meeting, and it is most definitely not a love at first sight scenario between them. They each have preconceived ideas about the other, and those expectations ensure that this is a slower build romance. The pretend dating aspect of the plot ensures you get to the kissing and swoon worthy scenes quicker than this type of slow build would allow. It is the best of both worlds, and it really works in this instance. They bring out something in each other, and each of them grow as a result. Oakley's transformation is especially noticeable as he becomes more grounded. Vaughn's is less easy to spot, but is just as present. Oakley influences her to let go of some of the worries that plague her, and do something for herself occasionally.

I predict younger teens will especially love this novel. It's a little tamer than the Royals series, and the romance is the stuff of daydreams. It is perfect for anyone looking for a lighter summer read for a lazy day by the pool. It has romance, drama, and more. If you're looking for something fun, but with a little heart this is the book for you.

More Books In The Royals Series

You may recall me being very excited about Erin Watt's Royals series. I loved all three books in the series and was excited by the possibility of more to come.

I was thrilled when it was announced that Easton was getting his own duology as a continuation of the Royals series! I may be desperate to have a series that focuses on the twins, but Easton getting his own story is pretty exciting. The two books are both coming out this year and the first one already has a title and release information available. The title is ......

You can add it, and the sequel, to your Goodreads! I cannot wait to pre-order both!

OTHER

Book Expo America

The autographing area schedule was just released and it has made me even more excited for Book Expo this year. I am already looking forward to meeting some of the authors and am equally excited to be surrounded by bookish people. I am now anticipating the in booth schedule being released, and I am still keeping my fingers crossed that Stephanie Perkins will be signing her new book as I would love to meet her! Here is the Goodreads synopsis
These Royals will ruin you…

From mortal enemies to unexpected allies, two teenagers try to protect everything that matters most.

Ella Harper has met every challenge that life has thrown her way. She’s tough, resilient, and willing to do whatever it takes to defend the people she loves, but the challenge of a long-lost father and a boyfriend whose life is on the line might be too much for even Ella to overcome.

Reed Royal has a quick temper and even faster fists. But his tendency to meet every obstacle with violence has finally caught up with him. If he wants to save himself and the girl he loves, he’ll need to rise above his tortured past and tarnished reputation.

No one believes Ella can survive the Royals. Everyone is sure Reed will destroy them all.
They may be right.

With everything and everyone conspiring to keep them apart, Ella and Reed must find a way to beat the law, save their families, and unravel all the secrets in their Twisted Palace.
This is a story of a princess who likes to run, and a prince who is broken. It is a fairytale filled with sex, lies, murder. It also is filled with devotion, family bonds, and faith. Erin Watt closes The Royals series with a deliciously readable finale that was, pretty much, exactly what I hoped it would be.

It is hard to review the final book in the series. It is often the case that everything that can be said about the series has already been said in previous reviews. Erin Watt manages to create a final book that still has something left to talk about. The Royals series has become a twisted mystery with some of the most unforgettable characters.

I have mentioned previously that those who miss Gossip Girl, or devour CW television shows will want to pick this one up. It is filled with pretty teens doing scandalous things, steamy romance, and (by the end of the second book) a murder mystery where everyone is a suspect.

The third book answers (almost) all your questions, and it does so satisfyingly. We are given the who, what, when, where and why. I do, however, wish it had been fleshed out just a bit more. The ending felt rushed. I would have appreciated a but more expansion on some of the secrets that are revealed along with the killer, and it would have elevated an already wonderful read.

We're given a double whammy of jaw dropping surprises when we not only find out about the murder, but Ella's father returns very much alive. I wish that we had gotten to know more about Steve beyond what is revealed in this book. He is an important character and I don't think he was given his due. His presence was felt so strongly even when he was not physically there that it just seems anticlimactic when we finally do meet him. Everything we're told about him should have prepared me for the type of man he is, but it still felt like something was missing.

Ella quickly became one of my favourite parts of this series. She's someone who did what she had to in order to survive, and someone who can hold her own against the Royals. She became more open and allowed herself to care about people. She may have been good for the Royals, but they were just as good for her. The Ella we meet in the first book is not the same one we leave at the end of this one and she is all the better for it.

The Royals, however, continue to grow on me. I am ready to demand an entire series about each of the boys. I need to dissect everything about the twins and their shared relationship with Lauren. I want Gideon to finally find happiness and peace. I want Easton to continue his growth and maturity. These messed up, broken guys really do latch on to you, and that is a testament to Erin Watt's characterization skills. She manages to make you care about these deeply flawed characters in a very real way.

The writing is, once again, addictive. I will joke about books being 'book crack' sometimes and this series falls into that category. It's compulsively readable and rivals the most addictive television shows. There is something about this world and these characters that pulls you into the story immediately and makes it hard to say goodbye.

Twisted Palace offers up a satisfying ending to Ella and Reed's scandal filled story but opens the door for other Royals to take center stage. I, for one, cannot wait to return to this world and the characters whenever Erin Watt wishes to do so. If you've looking for something with spice up your reading list I highly recommend this addictive, and debaucherous series.

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

It's not secret that I've loved Erin Watt's Royals series so I was super excited when this was announced. Everything about this book sounds cute and adorable. I love the premise of these two people having to pretend to date only to fall for each other for real. It should be fun and cute with just enough drama.

New To My Book Closet

It's that time of the week again. Time to show you what bookish goodies made their way into my home and book closet (to be saved from the evil book eating cat monster named Aria). This is inspired by the various "mailbox" posts out there (eg. In My Mailbox by The Story Siren, and Stacking the Shelves by Tynga's Reviews)

Had some pretty exciting goodies make their way into my mailbox this week.

First up is the finale to one of the most addictive series I've read! I love The Royals series and am so excited to have Twisted Palace in my hands so I can find out how it ends.

Twisted Palace by Erin Watt (goodreads)

I have the best friends pretty much ever, and was gifted this next item by one of them.

If you have followed this blog at all, you'll know how excited I was when Kim (from Pingwing's Bookshelf) gifted me this. She got it in one of her Owlcrate boxes and passed it along to me. I love it and will totally be wearing it this winter.

Happy Weekend and Happy Reading!

There have been lots of cover reveals and other exciting things happening!  The Harper Collins covers have especially been amazing.

BOOK

Cover for Dividing Eden by Joelle Charbonneau (goodreads)

Look at this amazing and eye catching cover!

I think that perhaps the same cover designer who did the Red Queen covers worked on this one. I love the simplistic but eye catching design and cannot wait to read this one. It sounds amazing.

Cover for Erin Watt's When It's Real (goodreads)

It is no secret that I love Erin Watt's The Royals series. I was thrilled to find out that another book would be coming out next year and this one involved a pop star and a regular girl pretending to date.

Isn't this cover AMAZING?! I love sparklers and everything about this book's premise. 2017 has amazing sounding reads coming up and I cannot wait.

OTHER

Steven Yeun on the cover of Entertainment Weekly

Obviously there are spoilers in this -- I let you know at the top of the post -- but I had to post this simply because I loved Glenn. He was my favourite character, but I knew it was going to go down the way it did when Negan and Lucille showed up.

This cover also happens to to be the first time an Asian male has had a solo EW cover which is awesome.

I am going to miss Glenn. I am going to miss the bright spot Maggie and Glenn were in the zombie apocalypse.

I am excited to get my copy because I cannot wait to see what Steven says about saying goodbye to a show he was part of for 6-ish years.

Waiting On Wednesday .... Twisted Palace

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My pick this week is Twisted Palace by Erin Watt

** SPOILERS FOR THE PREVIOUS TWO BOOKS**

I am addicted to this series, and their jaw-dropping cliffhangers. I am desperate to get my hands on the finale to this series and find out all of the Royals secrets.  Luckily, I don't have long to wait as it comes out in Oct!

** SPOILERS FOR PAPER PRINCESS**

Here is the Goodreads synopsis
These Royals will ruin you…

From wharf fights and school brawls to crumbling lives inside glittery mansions, one guy tries to save himself.

Reed Royal has it all—looks, status, money. The girls at his elite prep school line up to date him, the guys want to be him, but Reed never gave a damn about anyone but his family until Ella Harper walked into his life.

What started off as burning resentment and the need to make his father’s new ward suffer turned into something else entirely—keep Ella close. Keep Ella safe. But when one foolish mistake drives her out of Reed’s arms and brings chaos to the Royal household, Reed’s entire world begins to fall apart around him.

Ella doesn’t want him anymore. She says they’ll only destroy each other.

She might be right.

Secrets. Betrayal. Enemies. It’s like nothing Reed has ever dealt with before, and if he’s going to win back his princess, he’ll need to prove himself Royally worthy.
There are some books that leave your head spinning and desperate to discuss with someone. The Royals series feature these exact kind of books. Boys behaving badly, sexy chemistry, and female characters who give as good as they get. If you haven't read Paper Princess yet,  I recommend making a friend read them at the same time as you'll need someone to discuss them with ... immediately.

These books are like crack in that they are entirely addictive. The writing style is a large part of this as it is compulsively readable. The plot also has a large part to do with how compelling this series is. Clear your calendar before picking this one up because it pretty much demands to be read in one sitting. They have built this world and created these characters that just dig under your skin and get to you. I am not even sure how to describe it other than it feels like being in a whirlwind.

The ending of events of Paper Princess have consequences. Ella has ran away and Reed is desperate to find her. I appreciated that the authors have built on the events from the first novel. They made them matter in real ways and didn't tidily sweep them away to move on to other things. Everything has an impact, and that is perhaps my favourite thing about this series. Things come back to haunt you. Decisions once made cannot be undone and there is no escaping the consequences. I also appreciated that this novel offers no easy fix. The main characters suffer because of their choices and that makes a huge difference in a story like this.

Erin Watt manages to intrigue you with every single Royal brother. I am particularly fascinated with the twins, Sawyer and Sebastian. Their storyline is, for me, the most eyebrow raising and the one I have the most questions about. I would love another series that focused on ANY of the brothers after this one if it meant getting answers to some of these questions. They also, once again, make Ella a complete bad ass. She holds her own against the Royals and shows that she is formidable in her own right. She isn't a doormat and isn't about to sit by and let things happen. She's an example of a different kind of strength in female characters and I appreciate her so much. She is allowed to be weak, impulsive, make bad decisions, be a good friend, stand up for herself and others, and for all of this to be who she is.

These books are like an adrenaline rush with how rapid paced they are. They are impossible to look away and will leave you with whiplash. The authors that make up the pen name of Erin Watt are the queens of delicious drama and each reveal and plot twist only gets more scandalous. It is one of my favourite parts of this series and something they do incredibly well.

The ending of Broken Prince leaves you shell shocked and desperate to get your hands on Twisted Palace. They say that these Royals will ruin you and the same could be said for the authors and this book. This has quickly become one of my favourite twisty series filled with darkly seductive characters. The Royals may be bad, but they do it so well you have no choice but to fall under their charms. Those who want a book that makes Gossip Girl look innocent, and that unravels at breakneck speed should quickly get their hands on this one.

New To My Book Closet.

A few goodies arrived in my mailbox this week.

First up, I purchased a new Funko Pop for my growing collection. I am so happy that they are making Pops for this particular show and I hope we get a full collection.

Yup, it's Liv Moore from iZombie! I want one for Ravi, Major, and Clive! I anticipate we'll get a Blaine Pop as well.

Next one of my pre-orders arrived. I am super excited to continue this series!

Broken Prince by Erin Watt (goodreads)

Lastly, I received my last #otspsecretsister package for this round. A HUGE thank you to Katrina (@RinaReadsBooks on Twitter) for being a fantastic 'sister'.

The Assassin's Blade by Sarah J Maas (goodreads)

This package was filled with favourite things and I loved it. Surprisingly I do not own the first three books in the Throne Of Glass series in hardcover so I was THRILLED to get one of them in my package. I love the Disney postcards and the Joker journal. The Alice in Wonderland soap made everything smell amazing! I am so happy to have gotten to know people better thanks to taking part in this and I cannot wait to sign up again.

What bookish items made their way into your mailbox this week?

Happy Weekend and Happy Reading!

Here is the Goodreads synopsis
From strip clubs and truck stops to southern coast mansions and prep schools, one girl tries to stay true to herself.

These Royals will ruin you…

Ella Harper is a survivor—a pragmatic optimist. She’s spent her whole life moving from town to town with her flighty mother, struggling to make ends meet and believing that someday she’ll climb out of the gutter. After her mother’s death, Ella is truly alone.

Until Callum Royal appears, plucking Ella out of poverty and tossing her into his posh mansion among his five sons who all hate her. Each Royal boy is more magnetic than the last, but none as captivating as Reed Royal, the boy who is determined to send her back to the slums she came from.

Reed doesn’t want her. He says she doesn’t belong with the Royals.

He might be right.

Wealth. Excess. Deception. It’s like nothing Ella has ever experienced, and if she’s going to survive her time in the Royal palace, she’ll need to learn to issue her own Royal decrees.
I'am always in search of books that remind me of Gossip Girl. I want something that is just as sexy, just as debaucherous, just as fun as that television show was (at least in its early seasons). Plenty of books seem like they might have that combination of sexy chemistry, and delicious drama. Plenty of them also fail to deliver. Paper Princess, however, hits all the right notes.

Erin Watt, the pen name of Elle Kennedy and Jen Frederick, crafts a read that is, in one word, addictive. It is the type of story that would be right at home on the CW (or Freeform) network - a group of insanely beautifully teens behaving badly. This co-written book blends together seamlessly. I couldn't tell it was written by two different authors, which is always a sign of a successful co-write. Each of them used their strengths to create an highly entertaining, and tightly paced read.

This is a world of wealth, privilege, private schools, and personal drivers. This backdrop and setting fits perfectly with the story Erin Watt is weaving, and with the characters. It added texture to the story and gives it a heightened sense of drama. This story needs to be set in this particular world, because the environment has helped shaped who these characters are, for better and for worse. When an author nails the setting, the rest of the story often falls into place, and that is the case here.

The Reed brothers are all varying degrees of broken. They are all hot messes that make Chuck Bass look angelic. There is a reason that people say the Royals will ruin you, and each of the brothers should come with their own warning sign. There is something so captivating, and compelling about these broken characters, especially when an author allows them to walk that line between being able to be redeemed, and not. You may not like these characters sometimes, but you understand them and their choices. You see what made them who they are, and that is vastly more important than them being likeable.

Ella is a contradiction of sorts. She is shown as strong, yet fragile. She's street smart, and had to grow up much quicker than other people her age once she had to take care of herself. The authors have turned the typical 'fish out of water' story into something more. Ella is capable of holding her own in her new surroundings, but they allow her to be flawed in a way most characters like her are not. She's not innocent, and certainly isn't a damsel in distress.

A perfect poolside page turner whose ending all but demands you read the upcoming sequel. I, personally, am glad I don't have that long to wait to continue the story of the infamous Royal brothers and the women who dare to love them. If you miss Gossip Girl, or are looking for something fun to read at the beach this summer I highly recommend picking this one up. Just be warned ... it'll ruin you.

I devoured Paper Princess recently and cannot wait to get my hands on the sequel. My review for Paper Princess goes up soon so I won't say too much here, but it was very addictive. It's as fun, as twisty, and outrageous as you expect it to be, and I hope the sequel is just as entertaining.

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

BOOK

Cover of King's Cage by Victoria Aveyard (goodreads)

This covers are stunning and I love the darkening of each as the series progresses. The crown made of bones, and that fierce tagline have me very excited to get my hands on this!

The title better be referring to Maven and a cage for him rather than a cage he has. He is honestly the worst. #TeamCal

When It's Real by Erin Watt (goodreads)

I just finished Paper Princess by Erin Watt and it has made me even more excited about this upcoming release. I was sold with the inclusion of  a bad boy pop star, and the potential for a cute (and sexy) romance. It is high on my 2017 wishlist and I cannot wait to hear more about it in the coming months.

TV/MOVIE

Nerve trailer

I stumbled across this trailer accidentally thanks to my Twitter feed. I immediately thought it sounded familiar and ran to Goodreads to verify that there is a book called Nerve that has a similar premise as this movie that is coming out this month.

Turns out is based on the book by Jeanne Ryan and the trailer has made me curious to pick up the book. I love that the trailer starts out kind of light and funny but grows quite dark towards the end. I am not even sure what it is about the trailer, but it has piqued my interest enough to go grab a copy of the book and check out the movie when it releases. If you've read Nerve, let me know what you thought in the comments.

New To My Book Closet

It's that time of the week again. Time to show you what bookish goodies made their way into my home and book closet (to be saved from the evil book eating cat monster named Aria). This is inspired by the various "mailbox" posts out there (eg. In My Mailbox by The Story Siren, and Stacking the Shelves by Tynga's Reviews).

I have had lots of amazing goodies make their way into my mailbox this week.

First up is my birthday gift from my lovely friend Christy (aka The Reader Bee). She sent me something that is so ME. I love it so much I may need to get a matching one for my couch.

This Peter Pan pillow is designed by the equally lovely Evie Seo. Be sure to check out her Society6 shop where this was purchased. I need a mug, and a set of the carry all pouches with this design. It's seriously my favourite. Thank you again, Christy! So much!

Next are two review copies that made their way into my mailbox. I may have squealed when the new Morgan Matson arrived. I cannot wait to dive into this one and fall in love with these new characters.

P.S. I Like You by Kasie West (goodreads)
The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson (goodreads)

PS I Like You just looks super cute and fun! Thanks to Simon and Schuster and Scholastic for these pretties! I cannot wait to review them.

My lovely #otspsecretsister (aka Tink) sent me a fantastic birthday package! It's basically a birthday in a box and I love it so much! I cannot wait to try the cake. I am saving it for a special occasion (perhaps the Outlander season 2 premiere here in Canada tomorrow!).

It's super fun, and I want to say thank you to 'Tink' again! It brightened my day! It was incredibly thoughtful of you and it made this birthday extra special.

Lastly, a book I ordered came! I have been dying to read this one. It sounds like Cruel Intentions meets Gossip Girl and I am SO IN! I am hoping to fit it in my very packed schedule soon!
