Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every weekend.

BOOKS

Morgan Matson Book 6 (goodreads)

Morgan recently released the title of her upcoming book as well as a release date. Take Me Home Tonight will be out May 4, 2021. We know it takes place all in one night, and revolves around a friendship. Morgan has described it as Adventures in Babysitting meets Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist so it sounds like it is going to be fun.

The cover and other details should be revealed soon-ish so I'll share them once they are available.

Cover of Lore by Alexandra Bracken (goodreads)

I did not know much about this book until I saw this attention grabbing cover.

Amazing right? It immediately draws your eye and stands out. The book, obviously, involves Greek mythology and the cover perfectly captures that. I am looking forward to this now and am so glad it came to my attention because of this amazing cover.

TV/MOVIES

The Umbrella Academy Season 2 trailer

I loved season one of this show so much. I love the dysfunctional family dynamic mixed with superpowers vibe that it has got going on.

This trailer makes it look like we're in for the same great combo of incredible action with some great humour. I hope we get just as much focus on the family bonds as we did in the first season. This show works because we care about the characters so I hope that is continued.

Lucifer Season 5 trailer

It was just announced that Lucifer will be getting a sixth and final season which made me really excited. I was even more excited when they released the trailer for the upcoming season.

The fact that they are willing to spoil the twin reveal means that it is probably not a secret for long which I am happy about. This trailer makes me confident that they can pull off another great season that is comparable to the fantastic fourth season and I cannot wait to end the summer with this.

New To My Book Closet

It's that time of the week again. Time to show you what bookish goodies made their way into my home and book closet (to be saved from the evil book eating cat monster named Aria). This is inspired by the various "mailbox" posts out there (eg. In My Mailbox by The Story Siren, and Stacking the Shelves by Tynga's Reviews)

I have had some amazing books show up this week in my mailbox (and other goodies). First up are two books that I preordered and had arrived.

Save The Date by Morgan Matson (goodreads)
Legendary by Stephanie Garber (goodreads)

I have read both of these and they are both wonderful. Morgan's newest is perfect for the summer and beach reading. Stephanie's newest is magical and whimsical and such a great sequel. Be sure to look for both of my reviews that were posted on the blog.

Next up is something I was really excited to get. I had joined the My Favorite Murder fan cult and it comes with this awesome t-shirt and pin!

What bookish goodies made their way into your mailbox this week? Let me know in the comments.

Happy Weekend and Happy Reading!

Save The Date by Morgan Matson

Save The Date by Morgan Matson
Release Date - June 5, 2018
Publisher Website - Simon and Schuster
Publisher Social Media - Twitter
Pages -  432 pages
My Rating - 5/5
**received from the publisher for an honest review**

Here is the Goodreads synopsis
Charlie Grant’s older sister is getting married this weekend at their family home, and Charlie can’t wait—for the first time in years, all four of her older siblings will be under one roof. Charlie is desperate for one last perfect weekend, before the house is sold and everything changes. The house will be filled with jokes and games and laughs again. Making decisions about things like what college to attend and reuniting with longstanding crush Jesse Foster—all that can wait. She wants to focus on making the weekend perfect.

The only problem? The weekend is shaping up to be an absolute disaster.

There’s the unexpected dog with a penchant for howling, house alarm that won’t stop going off, and a papergirl with a grudge.

There are the relatives who aren’t speaking, the (awful) girl her favorite brother brought home unannounced, and a missing tuxedo.

Not to mention the neighbor who seems to be bent on sabotage and a storm that is bent on drenching everything. The justice of the peace is missing. The band will only play covers. The guests are all crazy. And the wedding planner’s nephew is unexpectedly, distractingly…cute.

Over the course of three ridiculously chaotic days, Charlie will learn more than she ever expected about the family she thought she knew by heart. And she’ll realize that sometimes, trying to keep everything like it was in the past means missing out on the future.
There are a few things that will happen after finishing Save The Date. You'll immediately want to call your family, blast Make Me Lose Control by Eric Carmen, and eat some donuts. You'll also probably want to instantly start reading it again. This cute, wedding season read about a girl discovering that the saying about life being what happens when your busy making other plans is absolutely true.

Morgan Matson's novels always feel like a warm hug. They have a nostalgia factor built into them. They are synonyms with summer for me. This feels especially true in this novel. Anyone who has read and loved the For Better Or For Worse cartoon strip will see the inspiration for Grant Central Station (the comic that exists in this novel). It invokes a particular feeling, even if you're not familiar with the comic strip, that weaves itself into the other elements of the story. You connect with the characters because it is so easy to. The way the story unfolds through memories, comic strip sections, and input from those outside of the family all come together to create a real sense of not just the characters but of the tone of the story.

The family relationships, instead of the romance, are what will cause you to have a ton of feelings while reading this one. The romance typically shine brightly in Morgan's books, but it takes a backseat to the family dynamics for this one. The time frame doesn't lend itself to a properly fleshed out romance, and Charlie is dealing with so much family drama that it feels really natural to have it be only a minor subplot. The Grants are a family you will love, and probably wish to be part of, even if they don't always get along. I appreciated how developed all of the family members felt. They each had their own distinct personalities. There were relationships that existed between certain members that existed outside of the one that existed between the whole family.

There is romance within the story for those looking for it. The theme of this one would definitely be potential. There is a spark that could ignite into something more. There are plenty of great moments between her and the two potential boys who have caught her attention. For those needing those romance swoon I promise that you'll find them in here. Some of my favourites include the spontaneity of dancing in grocery story, and the dizzying feeling of a boy you like finally noticing you back. The romance is framed more in reference of Charlie, and I think that fits really well with the rest of the story.

A large part of the story revolves around Charlie wanting everything to be perfect for the wedding. It, of course, goes comically wrong at every opportunity. Her expectations are so high that there is no way that the reality could ever live up to it. Part of her story arc is learning that those moments you don't expect can be the ones that are most rewarding. They can be the ones that sear themselves into the fabric of who you are and be exactly what you needed. She also has to struggle with the reality that everything is not necessarily as she perceives it to be. She has to grow a lot as she discovers things about her family and reconcile the fact that she may have seen things how she thought they were instead of how they really are.

If you're a fan of Morgan's previous novels you'll delight in a few cameos that are within these pages. I was so charmed by one in particular. It is basically the example for why I love novels that are set within the same world like these are. These cameos also added to the nostalgia factor and immediately made it feel like something included for the fans. It's nice to check in on these characters we already love and just hammers home that family feeling.

Morgan Matson, once again, nails that summer book feeling with this feel good contemporary read. It is one I think people will want to read multiple times because of how connected they'll feel to the characters. I highly recommend saving a spot in your summer reading schedule for this one and it is the perfect accessory for the upcoming wedding season.

2018 Most Anticipated - A Few More

Today is the last book post for this event and I thought I would share three more books that I am excited about in a slightly different format. I am capping it at three simply because it could get out of control otherwise. There are some VERY exciting books coming out in 2018.

Royals by Rachel Hawkins (goodreads)

Meet Daisy Winters. She’s an offbeat sixteen-year-old Floridian with mermaid-red hair; a part time job at a bootleg Walmart, and a perfect older sister who’s nearly engaged to the Crown Prince of Scotland. Daisy has no desire to live in the spotlight, but relentless tabloid attention forces her join Ellie at the relative seclusion of the castle across the pond.

While the dashing young Miles has been appointed to teach Daisy the ropes of being regal, the prince’s roguish younger brother kicks up scandal wherever he goes, and tries his best to take Daisy along for the ride. The crown–and the intriguing Miles–might be trying to make Daisy into a lady . . . but Daisy may just rewrite the royal rulebook to suit herself.

Why I am so excited for this title:

This book was already on my radar before the whole "royal wedding' fever hit but now I am extra excited to read about an American girl marrying a Prince (and the younger sister along for the ride). It sounds adorable and like a fun summer read.

Release date:

May 1, 2018

What If It's Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera (goodreads)

What If It’s Us opens as Arthur and Ben meet at the post office as Ben is shipping his ex-boyfriend’s things back to him. They subsequently endure the frustration of knowing there was a missed connection, before the universe pushes them back together again in a series of failed “first” dates.

Why I am so excited for this title:

It's Beck and Adam! Enough said. I cannot wait to see how their writing styles compliment each other. The only question is whether this will be more Becky and provide us with a cute, uplifting ending or if it'll be more Adam and rip our hearts out instead.

Release date:

Fall, 2018

Save This Date by Morgan Matson (goodreads)

Charlie Grant’s older sister is getting married this weekend at their family home, and Charlie can’t wait—for the first time in years, all four of her older siblings will be under one roof. Charlie is desperate for one last perfect weekend, before the house is sold and everything changes. The house will be filled with jokes and games and laughs again.

Why I am so excited for this title:

A new Morgan Matson book screams summer to me, so I am super excited to have a new one to read by the pool next summer. It also sounds adorable and I love the thought of Morgan writing a family dynamic book. Her friendships are amazing so I am expecting good things from her family connections.

Waiting On Wednesday ... Save The Date

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

This week's pick is Save The Date by Morgan Matson

Here is the Goodreads synopsis
Father of the Bride meets Sixteen Candles in the latest novel from New York Times bestselling author Morgan Matson.

Morgan Matson is a must read author for me. I always love her books and look forward to having one to read in the summer.

Save The Date has been called Sixteen Candles at a wedding and I am so here for this. The cover is adorable, the synopsis is amazing, and I am currently lamenting the fact that this book is so far away.

Join me in eagerly anticipating this June release, and we can distract ourselves by reading Morgan's other novels again while we wait.

New To My Book Closet

It's that time of the week again. Time to show you what bookish goodies made their way into my home and book closet (to be saved from the evil book eating cat monster named Aria). This is inspired by the various "mailbox" posts out there (eg. In My Mailbox by The Story Siren, and Stacking the Shelves by Tynga's Reviews).

This week was an insane book mail week! So many amazing titles made their way into my house. I am looking towards a pretty amazing summer of reading with all of these titles.

First up was the Ottawa Book Blogger Meet Up. We had a fantastic day filled with bookish talk, and fun. The publishers were incredibly generous and sent a lot of awesome titles.

Never Ever by Sara Saedi (goodreads)
Everland by Wendy Spinale (goodreads)
Run by Kody Keplinger (goodreads)
Every Exquisite Thing by Matthew Quick (goodreads)
The Last Boy And Girl In The World by Siobhan Vivian (goodreads)
The Memory Book by Lara Avery (goodreads)
Drag Teen by Jeffery Self (goodreads)
Two Summers by Aimee Friedman (goodreads)
The Merciless II by Danielle Vega (goodreads)
Roses and Rot by Kat Howard (goodreads)
The Oxford Inheritance by AA McDonald (goodreads)
The Crown's Game by Evelyn Skye (goodreads)

It's probably not surprising that I am SUPER excited about the two Peter Pan inspired novels! I have already read Everland and LOVED it. I have high hopes for Never Ever. Thanks again to all the publishers for helping make this meet up extra special and thanks for everyone who came. It was great to see you all!

Next up was a bookish mug I purchased for Evie's Society6 store. My love of Peter Pan is well known and this mug paired perfect with my reading of Everland! I intend to use it again when devouring Never Ever.

Evie's designs are always lovely! I have also purchased a set of carry-all pouches with this design on it! Excited for them to arrive.

Raincoast Books, who distributes a lot of publishers here in Canada, had their annual blogger fall preview event and they sent us swag packs filled with awesome goodies along with two upcoming ARCs.

Stealing Snow by Danielle Paige (goodreads)
One Was Lost by Natalie D Richards (goodreads)

Thank you to Raincoast for the fun event, and the swag pack! I am super excited to read Stealing Snow and was thrilled to find it in my pack. At the meet up I heard One Was Lost described as The Breakfast Club meets The Blair Witch Project and I immediately needed to read it!

I had some pre-orders come in as well this week. Two books that everyone is buzzing about (and for good reason as both of these are highly anticipated books)

A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J Maas (goodreads)
The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson (goodreads)

The Unexpected Everything is simply adorable. It's a perfect summertime read! I am super nervous to read A Court of Mist and Fury based on some spoilers I heard, but hope to get to it soon. I anticipate having an unpopular opinion about the events of the book but I do trust Sarah J Maas to write a beautiful story.

What bookish items made their way into your mailbox this week?

Happy Weekend and Happy Reading!

#ThreeScoopsOfSummer Blog Tour - The Unexpected Everything

Today I am very excited to help celebrate an amazing book. I am even more excited to celebrate it on it's release day! It is the release date for the newest Morgan Matson novel which always gets me in the mood for summer. Since Simon and Schuster Canada thinks (and I agree) that summer is meant for reading, they decided to host an epic blog tour featuring three books that are made for your beach tote. The #ThreeScoopsOfSummer tour (because nothing goes with summer better than ice cream) has already featured Siobhan Vivan's The Last Boy and Girl in The World so be sure to stop by and visit each of the stops.

As mentioned, I am thrilled to celebrate The Unexpected Everything today! I'd like to start off by wishing Morgan Matson and The Unexpected Everything a happy book birthday!

As part of the tour I was given the chance to interview Morgan (queue fangirl freakout). She dished on emojis, summer, and road trip playlists.

1. I’ve heard that emojis are used in The Unexpected Everything. What is your favourite emoji to use?
Yes! The emojis are a big part of the book. I use this one a lot -and this one too
Lately, I’ve started using the cat faces a lot. I’m partial to this one at the moment
And during the holidays, I use the Santa instead of a smiley.

2. Your books remind me of summer. What is your favourite summer memory?

That’s so great to hear! I love summer (which is maybe why I write about it so much!) Summer to me, is long days by the lake or ocean, flip flop tan lines, fireflies, and iced latte or an ice cream cone. That’s summer to me!

3. This novel, based on the synopsis, seems to be about going outside your plan and finding the unexpected. What was the last unexpected thing you did?

I took an impromptu trip to Hawaii recently. It was spur of the moment, and the opportunity came along, so I jumped on it. It was a fantastic trip so it makes me want to do unexpected things more often!

4. Your novels always make me think of road trips as well. What song is a must have on any road trip playlist?

It changes, depending on the road trip, and what kind of destination it is. But a classic road trip song that shows up on a lot of my mixes is “Nightswimming” by REM. Such a good sing-along song too.

5. If a genie were to great you three wishes, what would you wish for?

-the ability to time travel

-for there always to be a Starbucks where I am

-three more wishes

6. Favourite beach read that should be in everyone's tote bags this summer?

The Last Boy and Girl in the World by Siobhan Vivian!

A huge thank you to Morgan for taking the time to answer these questions and for Simon and Schuster Canada for setting this up.

I've had to chance to read The Unexpected Everything, and below is my review. Hopefully it entices you to add it to your own summer reading list.

Here is the Goodreads synopsis
Andie had it all planned out.

When you are a politician’s daughter who’s pretty much raised yourself, you learn everything can be planned or spun, or both. Especially your future.

Important internship? Check.

Amazing friends? Check.

Guys? Check (as long as we’re talking no more than three weeks)

But that was before the scandal. Before having to be in the same house with her dad. Before walking an insane number of dogs. That was before Clark and those few months that might change her whole life.

Because here’s the thing - if everything's planned out, you can never find the unexpected.

And where’s the fun in that?
Friendships. Summer. Ice cream. Lazy summer days. Sweet romances. Road trips with perfect playlists. These are just some of the things that I associate with a Morgan Matson novel. The Unexpected Everything, as expected, holds some of these charms within it's pages. It also holds adorable dogs, the cutest book boyfriend I've had the pleasure to read about this year, and a story that shows going outside your comfort zone can lead to new experiences.

There is a saying that life is what happens when you're busy making other plans. Andie would consider this a foreign concept. Carefully laid plans, and boundaries are her defense mechanism and her way of life. Morgan Matson explores what happens when someone like this is forced to go outside that plan. Those carefully controlled experiences, and that defined future are all she knows. This novel really shines by allowing the reader to take Andie's journey with her. Every single page of this book is needed to chart Andie's journey, stumbles and all, through a life changing summer. The characterization in this novel is pitch perfect and not just with Andie. Each of the side characters stand out, and gain a place in the reader's heart. I, personally, would devour a set of companion novels that focused on each of Andie's best friends. Each girl has a story that I would love to read, especially Toby's. I can picture a rom-com laced story filled with road trips, big romantic gestures, and finding love in surprising places.

Andie's story is one of self exploration. Andie has to look at what it means to not be in control, and the reasons behind her drive to have everything so structured. The romance is only part of Andie's journey as everything from her family, friends, and her own perceptions play a part in the changes that happen to her. There is a lot that Andie discovers, and admits, to and about herself that I found refreshing. This, at it's heart, is a story of a girl letting go of things that could be holding her back. Things that due to fear, due to not listening to her inner voice, and due to expectation may leave her missing out on some pretty great detours along her journey. The book balances having drive, and focus versus using it as a crutch or defense mechanism to protect yourself. It shows the wonder in the unexpected, but also allows that taking risks can be risky. Morgan Matson adeptly points out that sometimes the things that seem scary are not as big as we make them out to be, and that we shouldn't let these hold us back. Andie's story will be instantly relatable because you can understand what she is going through. You've either been her, or know someone who has. It also helps that she makes mistakes. She is not perfect and she backslides along the progress she is making.

The romance is, as expected, perfectly swoon worthy. Clark is now my favourite of Morgan Matson's book boys and I predict many will love him too. There is something really refreshing in how natural, and realistic their relationship (and the ups and downs it experiences) is. Morgan, as mentioned, is an expert at balancing the various relationships in our lives within her story. The romance doesn't take the focus, but it's present enough for you to be invested. I, also, loved that Andie was more than just her romance. This story is really Andie's story and that means all parts of her.

If Since You've Been Gone left you wanting to dare all your friends, The Unexpected Everything will have you planning scavenger hunts. It's a novel that pairs perfectly with summer and demands to be read with ice cream. It's the kind of novel that will make you want to live in the moment and (sometimes) go off script - you never know who or what you might be missing.

Simon and Schuster is also offer up a prize pack for this blog tour. To enter be sure to fill out the Rafflecopter below. It is open to Canadian residents, and be sure to read all rules and restrictions.

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

BOOK

Cover for Stalking Jack The Ripper by Kerri M  (goodreads)

This book immediately caught my eye as I've always had a sort of fascination with the Jack The Ripper case. That fact that it remains unsolved has kept it in the public eye all these years later. Not only does the premise sound amazing but the story, from what I understand, incorporates photographs as well. I have high expectations for this one and cannot wait to try to snag a copy at BEA.

The cover is perfect for the synopsis and I love that it immediately sets a tone for the story!

Simon and Schuster Canada's #ThreeScoopsOfSummer blog tour

I am thrilled to be part of this amazing blog tour highlighting some of Simon and Schuster's contemporary summer reads. The tour will feature Morgan Matson's The Unexpected Everything, Siobhan Vivian's The Last Boy and Girl In The World, and Meg Leder's The Museum of Heartbreak.

Here are all the details of the tour. Be sure to follow along for interviews, guest posts, reviews and so much more! I am very excited to be hosting Morgan and Meg on this blog during my stops.

Heartless by Marissa Meyer (goodreads)

I was fortunate to receive a VERY early copy of this book and pretty much devoured it. It is EVERYTHING I wanted it to be. It's whimsical, romantic, and captures the essence of the original effortlessly. It's a heartbreaking read but one that is classic Marissa. Be sure to pre-order it because you won't want to miss it.

TV/MOVIE

Mr Robot Season 2

We have a premiere date for season 2 of Mr Robot and I am so excited for it to return. July 13th is the day we'll finally find out #WhoIsAtTheDoor!

I have had lots of amazing goodies make their way into my mailbox this week.

First up is my birthday gift from my lovely friend Christy (aka The Reader Bee). She sent me something that is so ME. I love it so much I may need to get a matching one for my couch.

This Peter Pan pillow is designed by the equally lovely Evie Seo. Be sure to check out her Society6 shop where this was purchased. I need a mug, and a set of the carry all pouches with this design. It's seriously my favourite. Thank you again, Christy! So much!

Next are two review copies that made their way into my mailbox. I may have squealed when the new Morgan Matson arrived. I cannot wait to dive into this one and fall in love with these new characters.

P.S. I Like You by Kasie West (goodreads)
The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson (goodreads)

PS I Like You just looks super cute and fun! Thanks to Simon and Schuster and Scholastic for these pretties! I cannot wait to review them.

My lovely #otspsecretsister (aka Tink) sent me a fantastic birthday package! It's basically a birthday in a box and I love it so much! I cannot wait to try the cake. I am saving it for a special occasion (perhaps the Outlander season 2 premiere here in Canada tomorrow!).

It's super fun, and I want to say thank you to 'Tink' again! It brightened my day! It was incredibly thoughtful of you and it made this birthday extra special.

Lastly, a book I ordered came! I have been dying to read this one. It sounds like Cruel Intentions meets Gossip Girl and I am SO IN! I am hoping to fit it in my very packed schedule soon!

Paper Princess by Erin Watt (goodreads)

New To My Book Closet

It's that time of the week again. Time to show you what bookish goodies made their way into my home and book closet (to be saved from the evil book eating cat monster named Aria). This is inspired by the various "mailbox" posts out there (eg. In My Mailbox by The Story Siren, and Stacking the Shelves by Tynga's Reviews).

Lots of exciting things in the mail this week!

First up, I received my March #otspsecretsister package. I had mentioned how much I missed summer and that I was entirely done with winter. My sister, 'Tink', sent me summer in  a package!

Amy and Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson (goodreads)

She sent me bubbles, fruity candles, some reusable ice cubes, little drink umbrellas, Easter M&Ms AND a kit to grow my own strawberries! I immediately set up the strawberry growing kit, and I am excited to see if it works. I had read Amy and Roger's Epic Detour before, but it was the one Morgan Matson book I do not own so I was excited to get a copy. A huge thank you to 'Tink' for the amazing package. Oh, and not included in the picture? A package of island flavoured cat treats for Aria to get a head start on summer, too. She loves them!

Two other books made their way into my book closet this week. One was a purchase and the other is a review copy sent from the publisher.

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare (goodreads)
The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner (goodreads)

A huge thank you to Penguin Random House Canada for sending along the review copy of The Serpent King. I have heard nothing but amazing things about this one and I cannot wait to read it.

I also have been hearing AMAZING things about Lady Midnight and cannot wait to fit it into my reading schedule. Sadly, it looks like it might be a little while, but I look forward to sharing my thoughts when I am able.

What bookish items made their way into your mailbox this week?

Happy Weekend and Happy Reading!

2016 Most Anticipated - The Unexpected Everything

The 2016 Most Anticipated Event continues with a novel that promises summertime feelings, and a delightful sounding premise by one of my favourite authors. Interviewing her made me flail more than a little.

This Goodreads synopsis will immediately make Morgan Matson fans *NEED* this book, while those who have never read her will be just as eager to get their hands on it.

Because here’s the thing - if everything's planned out, you can never find the unexpected.

And where’s the fun in that?
How cute is that cover?! I am not sure what I love more - the ice cream or the puppies! It's a cover that fits with the synopsis and immediately makes you smile.

Morgan kindly answered some questions and in the process made me fangirl the heck out, and has made me even more desperate to get my hands on this one.

1 Twitter pitch The Unexpected Everything (140 characters or less).

Andie’s summer plans are turned upside-down when her congressman father is caught up in a scandal. But she soon learns that amazing adventures - and love - can come from embracing the unexpected.

2 If someone were to make a signature ice cream in honour of your book, what might be included?

Cookie dough, rainbow sprinkles, and peanut brittle.

3 Let us in on one secret about one of your characters, or the world they inhabit.

Andie’s the first super-confident girl I’ve written. It was a challenge - but also a nice change of pace - to write a girl who didn’t need to be brought out of her shell, one who thought she knew all the answers already….and then everything she learns when she finds out she doesn’t.

4 Your novels invoke the feeling of summer. Road trips, long summer days and time at the beach. Will The Unexpected Everything continue this tradition?

You bet! It takes place over a summer, in the same town as Since You’ve Been Gone…and you might notice characters from past books making an appearance.

5 If you could travel to anywhere, in any time period, when and where would you want travel?

That’s such a great question.  Either Hollywood during the studio system, the Riviera in the 20s, or England in the 30s.

6 What 2016 release are you most anticipating?

I cannot WAIT to get my hands on Siobhan Vivian’s The Last Boy and Girl in the World.

7. If not too spoilery, can you share the first line of The Unexpected Everything.

Oh I WISH I could! But I can’t quite yet! I’m sorry!!!

Um.... anyone else just fangirl over the tease that we may see PREVIOUS characters in this book?! *hopes for a Frank Porter cameo*. I volunteer to travel back to studio system Hollywood with you, Morgan (side note - can you please write a novel set in studio system Hollywood?! PLEASE!).

The Unexpected Everything releases May 3, 2016 and can be pre-ordered right now from any retailer.

You can also follow Morgan on Twitter, visit her official website, and find out more about her books on the publisher website.

Be sure to stop by tomorrow to find out the next book that made this year's list!

What's your favourite Morgan Matson book? If you haven't read any yet (FIX THIS IMMEDIATELY) what is your favourite part of books that remind you of summertime? Let me know in the comments.

Waiting On Wednesday... The Unexpected Everything

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My pick this week is The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

I love Morgan's books so much. Her covers bring to mind summer, and sunshine and I happen to love this one in particular. Who doesn't love ice cream and puppies?!

This synopsis also sounds incredibly fun and I am sure I am going to love Andie when I 'meet' her. It's too bad that the wait between now and May feels like forever.

Expected release date - May 16, 2016

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

BOOK

Cover for The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson (goodreads)
9781481404549
This is so incredibly cute and I pretty much need to read this immediately. There is something about Morgan's books (and covers) that remind me of summer and everything sunshine. I am sure this one will be no exception as the cover is already off to a great start. Why is it not May 2016 already?!

Condemned by Amy Brashear (goodreads)

I saw this deal announced in Publishers Weekly and it immediately caught my attention because it sounds amazing. The deal has this novel pitched as...
A retelling of Truman Capote's In Cold Blood from the point of view of Carly, best friend to Nancy Clutter.
This sounds amazing and has a lot of potential to be REALLY interesting. In Cold Blood is a classic and I am always curious about how retellings are reworked to create something new.

TV/MOVIE

American Horror Story: Hotel key art

I basically love everything about this. EVERYTHING. If you click on this it should be high resolution and you can see all the little details. The cast looks fantastic and this season cannot start soon enough. #FinnWittrockThough #swoon

Throne of Glass TV news

No secret that I am a bit* of a Sarah J Maas fangirl. You can imagine my excitement when it was announced that her Throne of Glass series has been optioned for TV! Getting to see this epic story (and world) come to life on screen will be amazing if done right, and I have every faith that it's going to be a fantastic adaptation. I will be most curious about casting, and hope that they go for mostly unknowns, as that is going to be the key part of the show. Here is hoping we don't have to wait too long for some more news, and that it's on our television screens very soon.

*okay, so perhaps HUGE fangirl is more accurate.

OTHER

BEA and ALA 2016

I just purchased my flight ticket to Chicago for BEA 2016! I am super excited to be attending both ALA and BEA this year. It'll be my first time attending ALA and I cannot wait to see what authors will be in attendance and meet up with all my fellow bloggers again.

What are you obsessed with this week?

Summer Reading

It's a proven fact that summer and reading are meant for each other. There's nothing better than a great mystery while by the pool, spending a lazy day lost in a fantastic contemporary or devouring a fantasy while also devouring ice cream.

I am going to let you know what will be in my beach tote this summer, and offer up a few suggestions if you're looking for books to stash in yours!

MY PICKS FOR SUMMER READS

Here are some books you should check out if you haven't already read them! I loved all of them and any of them would make great summer reads.

1 Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

This is a perfect mystery/thriller that will keep you guessing. It's totally the type of book that is pretty much a sunburn waiting to happen. You'll becomes obsessed with Nick, Amy, and what really happened. Afterwards, be sure to check out the movie! One of my favourite book to movie adaptations ever.

2 Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

A sweet, fun read that has a lot of depth. This one will make you want to create some lists of your own for your friends. I totally made a "How To Have The Best Summer Ever" list for one of my friends after reading this one. You'll fall for the characters, the soundtrack (that can totally be the music of your summer) and Morgan's writing. Her other novels are just as amazing if you're looking for more after finishing this one.

3 Tarnish by Katherine Longshore

The entire Royal Circle 'series' should be on this list. Tarnish just happens to be my favourite as I adore Anne Boleyn and Katherine's portrayal of Anne is one of my favourites (EVER). Her writing is beautiful, and fans of Reign will love the Tudor court drama and romance that graces these pages.

4 Stolen by Lucy Christopher

This book will never not be on a list like this from me. It's one of my most favourite books, and one I tell everyone to read. The letter style format works wonderfully for this story of a girl writing to her kidnapper. It's a clever, well written look at what might be Stockholm Syndrome (or what could be something else entirely). One thing is for sure however, you'll never forget Gemma and Ty's story.

5 Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

I feel like this should come with a warning - you will need tissues to make it through this one. The beautiful story of Will and Lou. A young man who feels he has nothing left to live for after an accident leaves him paralysed and the young woman hired to help him. It's a story that poses many thought provoking questions and is the perfect book for when you're looking for something a little different than the usual beach read.

6 The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan

If you're obsessed with all things relating to the royal family, you'll want to devour this book. It's fun, charming, and has just the right amount of romance and drama. An often funny, but touching, love story filled with some unforgettable characters. You'll close this one praying for a companion novel that focuses on Freddie as you'll be dying to enter this world again.

7 The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord

I could easily also recommend Open Road Summer by Emery Lord (so totally read both). The Start Of Me And You earns bonus points for it's clever nod to Pride and Prejudice, and the most adorable romance I've read in a while. It's a feel good read that will leave you feeling happy, and ready to try a few new things yourself.

8 Just One Day/Just One Year by Gayle Forman

This will make you want to pack your bags and head to Europe on a summer vacation. It's a lighter read mixed in with some pretty deep topics and all with the classic Gayle Forman romance. A story of a girl who agrees to spend one day in Paris with a cute guy she just meets ends up being about much more than the romance. Fall in love with Europe, and these characters as you follow first Allyson and then Willem on their journeys to where they are supposed to be.

9 Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

This novel is seriously on fire. It is the next big thing in YA as evident by it's impressive debut on the New York Time's bestseller lists at number one. It's got a movie in the works, and it honestly could be the next big YA series adaptations. A novel that promises that anyone can betray anyone will leave you turning the pages (and most likely sunburned in the process) as you become engrossed in Mare's world.

10 Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson

Another novel that will always be on these kinds of list for me. A beautifully written take on the Peter Pan tale that asks what if before Wendy entered the picture, Peter was in love with the girl with the crow feathers in her hair (that would be Tiger Lily). An often heartbreaking story that touched me, and remains one of my favourite Peter Pan retellings ever.

WHAT I AM READING

Here are the books I am going to be enjoying in the summer sun! So excited about all of these!

1 Dumplin' by Julie Murphy

Pretty much every person I know that has read this has gushed. Not just a little, but A LOT. I am hoping to get to it ASAP because I am not sure I can wait much longer.

2 Tonight The Streets Are Ours by Leila Sales

I am extremely curious about this one, and I am a sucker for the whole 'one magical night' aspect of the storyline, and am even more intrigued that this one seems to have a twist that perhaps it's not what it first appears. I am sure it'll be fantastic as I've heard nothing by raves about her first novel.

3 The Rest Of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness

Described as Buffy The Vampire Slayer but from the perspective of the 'non chosen' students. It's basically the story of the kids who just want to go to prom without their school being attacked by vampires (or similar) and I think it sounds hilarious. I've never read anything by Patrick Ness before but he made me want to bump this one up during his panel at Book Con this year.

4 The Young Elites by Marie Lu

I have had this one on my list for a long time now, and I keep hearing how amazing it is. I am finally going to read it this summer. I've been told to have wine ready (and possibly chocolate) so I am going to be sure to stock up before diving in.

5 Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren

I've been told I have to read this from Emilie and Katie. It sounds sexy, fun and a great beach book. I am considering binging all the books that are out right now in time for the next one.

Have you read any of the books I've mentioned? What is on your summer reading list? Read something that I simply must make time to read this summer? Let me know in the comments! I would love some suggestions.

Best Of 2014.... So Far

The halfway point of 2014 is quickly approaching and with it many best of (so far at least) lists. Since I typically do one, I figured now was as good a time as any.

Here are the ten books that I would consider my best of 2014...so far. These are in no particular order and are not ranked in any way.

We Were Liars by E Lockheart

The less said about this one the better. Just read it. Become a liar. You'll thank me after you've recovered.

Brazen by Katherine Longshore

Fans of Reign are being told to pick this one up. I completely agree. It's got scandalous Tudor drama, some rather adorable flirting, and some of my favourite friendships portrayed in a novel. Katherine also happens to be a fantastic writer, so the overall book is amazing.

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

Taking a beloved character and putting a deliciously sinful twist on her? Perfection. Danielle Paige's precision style writing, and attention to detail made this an intricate read. It left me dying for book two, and pretty sure I would never look at Dorothy the same way again.

Half Bad by Sally Green

A beautifully written book that puts a twist on the whole nature vs nurture question. A boy witch who has been ostracized his whole life for being 'half bad' offers heartbreaking moments, and a fascinating look at society in general.

Love Letters To The Dead by Ava Dellaria

This will leave you weepy, and may inspire you to write your own love letter to the dead. An impact debut novel that uses a letter style format to tell it's heartbreaking yet hopeful story. I easily got swept away.

Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

A fun novel that has depth and layers. This one is perfect for the summer, and will leave you wanting to touch base with your own best friend...and maybe write them a list or two.

The Winner's Cure by Marie Rutkoski

Beautifully written, and some amazing world building mixed with incredible characters made Marie's novel a fantastic start to a new series. It's sneaks up on you and leaves you breathless as you feel it's full impact. Book two now, please!

Famous In Love by Rebecca Serle

Fun! Fun! Fun! If Hollywood love triangles, CW television shows, and novels that explore more than just the romance are your thing, YOU NEED TO PICK UP THIS BOOK. The characters, the setting, and the romance all won me over. My review will come closer to the date, but Rebecca had me hooked from the first paragraph. I basically need book two immediately.

Exquisite Captive by Heather Demetrois

Intricate world building, a driven and determined female lead character, and some scorchingly sexy scenes made this a favourite. The interweaving of the all too real issue of the slave trade made this one resonate a little deeper. Full review to come soon (along with some other fun things) but this one easily charmed me.

The Blonde by Anna Godbersen

Marilyn Monroe as a spy is the premise for this tightly woven novel. Surprisingly this works much better than perhaps thought at first glance, and the author makes it seem entirely all to plausible. The romance between Marilyn and John F Kennedy provided a romantic backdrop that raised the stakes. A fantastic beach thriller for this summer!

Each of these links to my review (where available) if you wish to check it out.

What books made your list? Did you read any that are on mine? If so, what did you think?
