2020 Most Anticipated - In Five Years

The next book on my 2020 most anticipated list deals with one of the main questions people inevitably get asked at point in their life - where do you see yourself in five years?

What if you had a plan for what your life would look like in five years only to be shown a glimpse of a future that looks entirely different than what you anticipated?

What if you woke up five years into the future in a different apartment than the one you currently live in and engaged to a different man than the one you are currently set to marry? That is what happens to the heroine of Rebecca Serle's In Five Years!

The Goodreads synopsis for this novel is perfection for those who love their contemporary fiction to have a bit of magic to them (in other words ... anyone who loved The Dinner List).
Perfect for fans of Me Before You and One Day—a striking, powerful, and moving love story following an ambitious lawyer who experiences an astonishing vision that could change her life forever.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

When Type-A Manhattan lawyer Dannie Cohan is asked this question at the most important interview of her career, she has a meticulously crafted answer at the ready. Later, after nailing her interview and accepting her boyfriend’s marriage proposal, Dannie goes to sleep knowing she is right on track to achieve her five-year plan.

But when she wakes up, she’s suddenly in a different apartment, with a different ring on her finger, and beside a very different man. The television news is on in the background, and she can just make out the scrolling date. It’s the same night—December 15—but 2025, five years in the future.

After a very intense, shocking hour, Dannie wakes again, at the brink of midnight, back in 2020. She can’t shake what has happened. It certainly felt much more than merely a dream, but she isn’t the kind of person who believes in visions. That nonsense is only charming coming from free-spirited types, like her lifelong best friend, Bella. Determined to ignore the odd experience, she files it away in the back of her mind.

That is, until four-and-a-half years later, when by chance Dannie meets the very same man from her long-ago vision.

Brimming with joy and heartbreak, In Five Years is an unforgettable love story that reminds us of the power of loyalty, friendship, and the unpredictable nature of destiny.
I am looking forward to Dannie's meet cute with the man from her vision. I also expect to feel conflicted between the two men who will be in her life. Rebecca can write a good triangle of sorts, and I am curious to see how this different dynamic plays out.

Rebecca has kindly taken the time to answer a few questions about the book, her inspiration, and provide the perfect drink to pair with the book.

1. Describe In Five Years using only five words or less.

Friendship. Heartbreak. New York. Love.

2. If someone were to make a signature drink for your book what would be included?

A glass of chilled Dom. Maybe the 2008?

3. Your last book tackled the question 'Which five poeple living or dead,  would you invite to have dinner' and this one tackles the "Where do you see yourself in five years" question. Both of these questions are ones that everyone gets asked at some point in their life. What about these questions do you feel make them such great jumping off points for a novel?

They are both questions we’ve all been asked at various points in our lives, and they’re both questions that I think our answers to CHANGE over the course of our lives- that’s interesting to me. I love taking an idea that seems obvious and turning it over and sort of laying it on its side and finding the trap door, so to speak. The way in. My first novel was a retelling of Romeo and Juliet— from Rosaline’s point of view. I’m always looking at the ways something known can become interesting, unexpected, personal.

4.  What differences did you discover in your process when writing adult novels versus YA novels?

My process is identical. I’m just at a different stage of my life now, so writing for adults seems natural. I was twenty-four when I sold my first book, I’m a decade older, now- life changes! And what I want to talk about and grapple with has changed.

5. Is there anything in particular that inspired In Five Years (ie: a song, movie, TV show)? Something you referred to for inspiration while writing?

This is kind of crazy but eight years ago I saw a psychic medium who told me very specific things about my life and future. All of it happened, and one thing in particular manifested right before I started writing. I think the thing that propelled me to the conceit was: “you can see what’s coming but you can’t see what it will mean.”

6. What 2020 book are you most anticipating?

It’s early yet- I’m not sure! I read a ton so there are a bunch of authors I’m hoping will give me new work in the next few years- Emma Straub, Adelle Waldman, Stéphanie Danler, to name a few! And Rachel Cusk. Obsessed with her. She’s a revelation.

7. If not too spoilery, what is the opening sentence of In Five Years

Twenty-Five.

That first sentence is such a tease. I love that it is going to be set in New York! I officially want to get my hands on this even more than I did before.

In Five Years releases March 3, 2020 but you can pre-order it right now from any retailer (and it will be the best belated holiday gift to yourself).

You can find out more about Rebecca by following her on Twitter, and by visiting her her website. You can also find out more about her books on the publisher website

Let me know what you think of In Five Years in the comments. Is the 'where do you see yourself in five years' question one that you have been asked? Have found that your answer changed as you changed as Rebecca mentioned above? Excited to hear what you all think.

Be sure to stop by tomorrow to for the next book on my 2020 most anticipated list.

I loved The Dinner List so much that I was thrilled when it was announced that Rebecca's next book would also be an adult novel. The synopsis seems to point at this book bringing forth just as strong an emotional reaction as The Dinner List did.

I am loving the theme of Rebcca's books - questions that people tend to get asked at parties or on first dates - and how she plays with those questions. I also love that they hold just a little bit of magic in them as well.

Bookmark this one for your bookclubs because I think it is going to be perfect for discussion over a nice glass of wine (or beverage of your choice).

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

Posting on a Sunday again! Lots to share this week in terms of movie/television trailers.

BOOK

The Heir Affair by Heather Cocks (goodreads)

The Royal We is one of my favourite reads. I immediately wanted a sequel or companion novel upon finishing and was thrilled when it was finally announced that there would be a sequel! I hope Freddie has a much larger focus in this sequel but I am also looking forward to reading all about what Nick and Bex are up to.

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle

Rebecca Serle recently announced her next book and I need it immediately. It is not up on Goodreads yet but you can read all the details over at Deadline.
I cannot wait to learn more about this book (like a release date). I am even more excited that Rebecca is continuing to write adult books because I loved The Dinner List so much.

The Dinner List by Rebecca Serle

The Dinner List by Rebecca Serle
Release Date - September 11, 2018
Publisher Website - Raincoast Books
Publisher Social Media - Twitter
Pages -  288 pages
My Rating - 5/5
**received from the publisher for an honest review**

Here is the Goodreads synopsis
For fans of Me Before You and ONE DAY comes a wondrous novel of first love, loss, and the dinner of a lifetime.

When Sabrina Nielsen arrives at her thirtieth birthday dinner she finds at the table not just her best friend, but also her favorite professor from college, her father, her ex-fiance, Tobias, and Audrey Hepburn.

At one point or another, we’ve all been asked to name five people, living or dead, with whom we’d like to have dinner. Why do we choose the people we do? And what if that dinner was to actually happen? These are the questions Sabrina contends with in Rebecca Serle’s utterly captivating novel, The Dinner List, a story imbued with the same delightful magical realism as Sliding Doors, and The Rosie Project.

As the appetizers are served, wine poured, and dinner table conversation begins, it becomes clear that there’s a reason these six people have been gathered together, and as Rebecca Serle masterfully traces Sabrina’s love affair with Tobias and her coming of age in New York City, The Dinner List grapples with the definition of romance, the expectations of love, and how we navigate our way through it to happiness. Oh, and of course, wisdom from Audrey Hepburn.

Delicious but never indulgent, sweet with just the right amount of bitter, The Dinner List is a modern romance for our times. Bon appetit.
Plenty of us have often wondered who we would invite to our dream dinner. You know the question, the one that ask what five people living or dead that you would want to have at a dinner party. The Dinner List takes this premise and adds a extra dash of something special to create a whimsical feeling read that packs a lot of emotional heft.

Rebecca Serle is known for her young adult novels. The Dinner List presents her first foray into the world of adult fiction. I believe that adult novels may end up being an even better fit for her as The Dinner List completely captivated me. You get a sense of ease and comfort within the genre that worked its way into all of the other elements of the story. I am hopeful we'll get more adult reads from her as I truly think she shines in this one.

There is an ethereal, magical quality to not just the writing but the book itself. Part of this is the inclusion of Audrey Hepburn at this birthday dinner that is being thrown. A certain amount of disbelief has to be suspended to fall into this story. Give yourself over to the story being told and you'll be richly rewarded. This inclusion of Audrey doesn't feel jarring in the slightest, but rather adds to the atmosphere and tone. All of the characters included in the dinner are there for a reason and so much of that ties into the feeling that is captured within the pages. There is an effervescence that is only matched by the sorrow that is also found  here. It ends up capturing the feeling of something real that also feels magical.

Sabrina is imperfect and I adore that about her character. She's messy and flawed in a way that feels realistic. This bleeds into the relationships she has with the other characters. They are messy in the way that real relationships are. They are not always easy and people hurt one another. The real beauty of both Sabrina as a character and this book is that it reminds you to bask in all of the moments. Those that are good and bad along with everything in between.

The remainder of the guests are not something I will spoil. Part of the charm of this book is discovering things along the way and that means allowing them to happen at the exact time they are meant to. Every single character is there for a reason and many of the characters are not just there to flesh out Sabrina's story arc. There are those that require their own closure, or have their own journeys to take during the course of this dinner and that made them feel more developed. Having characters that are not just there for the benefit of the main character is key and Rebecca Serle captures that here.

There is a major plot point that makes up what is the heart of this novel that is impossible to discuss without getting into spoiler territory. It also feels incomplete to discuss this novel without mentioning it. I've decided to include some spoilery thoughts under a tag so that those who have not read this wonderful novel yet won't be spoiled. This reveal is perfectly timed and stole my breath for a moment so please do not ruin it for yourself.

Those who love beautifully written, engrossing reads that leave you emotionally exhausted but full at the same time will want to pick this one up immediately. It's a perfect blend of whimsy, heart, and that undefinable thing that makes something unforgettable.

I am a fan of Rebecca Serle's previous book and was so excited when it was announced that she was going to be releasing her first adult novel.
I am sure that we have all, at some point, thought about our dream dinner list. I love the idea of Sabrina getting to experience it and it teaching her something about herself.
This book is going to be the best way to send off summer. It releases at the end of August which means it'll be a perfect read to pair with some time at the beach (or pool) and some ice cream.

*** EDIT *** The release date was listed incorrectly. It is actually Sept 11th. My plan of reading it with ice cream still stands.

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

So many exciting reveals this week!

BOOKS

Cover Of Rebecca Serle's The Dinner List (goodreads)

I am a huge fan of Rebecca's previous work and was so excited to hear that she would be writing her first adult novel. I was even more excited when I read the synopsis.

The cover was recently revealed and it is perfect!

I am so excited to meet Sabrina and Rebecca's version of Audrey Hepburn. I think it is going to be such a wonderful read! I cannot wait.

Cover of Lauren Oliver's Broken Things (goodreads)

Entertainment Weekly recently revealed the cover for Lauren Oliver's next book. They also released a excerpt that is twisted in all the best ways.

I love the dark colour scheme of the book, and that it fits with the chilling synopsis so perfectly. I am counting down the days until I get to read this one.

TV/MOVIE

The final trailer for the next Avengers movie was released and it is AMAZING!

The exchange between Peter Park and Dr. Strange is hilariously perfect. Steve Rogers is VERY intense (and very sexy) around the 1:46 (ish) mark. It's an epic trailer that has made waiting for this movie just a little bit harder to do. Tickets for opening week also went on sale at the same time this was released. I've already purchased mine for opening day!

First Image From The TV Show You

You is a book I have heard plenty about and have added to my reading list ages ago. My interest was renewed when a television show was announced. The premiere date of September 9th was just recently announced along with a first look from the show.

I know next to nothing about this book but what I do know intrigues me, and this image captures the creepy vibe I expect it to have. I have bumped the book up my reading list to have it done before September.

2018 Most Anticipated - The Dinner List

When I first heard that Rebecca Serle was releasing a new book I was immediately excited. I was even more excited to discover that it was going to involve a dinner party, and Audrey Hepburn! The Dinner List was instantly on my must read of 2018 and left me feeling like this:

It's very easy to be excited about a book when it is by an author whose previous novels you have loved, and when the premise is pretty much tailor made to appeal to you.

As this book doesn't release until Fall 2018 the official synopsis has not yet been released. What we do know comes from the deal announcement. The Deadline announcement described The Dinner List as:
set in New York City, and mixes the kind of magical realism and wish fulfillment seen in films like Midnight in Paris. It takes place in one evening when a woman arrives at her birthday dinner party to mysteriously find everyone on her dream “dinner list” waiting at the table, the answer to the proverbial question if you could have dinner with a group consisting of anyone who would it be?
Give. Me. It Immediately. I want to know everyone on Sabrina's dream dinner list. I want to know what she is eventually going to learn from this journey and, because it is Rebecca Serle, what kind of romance will be at the heart of this book.

Rebecca was awesome enough to answer a few questions about the book (even though it is super early for any kind of promo). This interview definitely makes me even more excited for more details to come out, and for this to eventually release.

1: what gif do you feel best describes The Dinner List

Probably any gif of Olivia Pope drinking wine?

*Kathy's note* I found this one that I personally like even though she's not drinking the wine. It mimics the excitement that I feel for this book.

2: If someone were to make a signature drink for your book what would be included?

It's not a cocktail-- but a really good glass of Merlot or Barolo. Or a scotch on the rocks. Like: Sit down, we're gonna be here awhile.

3: Who is someone on your own person 'dinner list'?

Jon Lovett from Pod Save America. To be honest my dream dinner would probably just be all the Crooked Media guys. I'm obsessed.

4. You've teased that we're going to meet your version of Audrey Hepburn. Are you able to tease someone else who is on Sabrina's dinner list?

I can tell you that everyone who is at the table is there for a reason--- but I'm not going to share more than that just yet!

5. What are some things (ie movies, tv shows, etc) you used to research this novel?

Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M by Sam Watson was a great Audrey resource, and a book I love very much.

6. What 2018 book are you most anticipating?

I'm a huge Curtis Sittenfeld fan and she has a short story collection "You Think It, I'll Say It," out in 2018. I'll definitely be picking that up!

I am so excited to meet Rebecca's Audrey. I have also added Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M to my personal 'to be read' list. Here is hoping we get more details about this one early in the new year as I cannot wait to see what cover they come up with, and read an official synopsis.

The Dinner List releases Fall 2018 and it not currently up for pre-order, but be sure to follow Rebecca on Twitter so that you know as soon as it is available. You can also check out her website for more information. The most up to date information can also be obtained on her publisher website. Also be sure to add it your Goodreads in the meantime.

Who would be on your own dream dinner list? Let me know in the comments.

Be sure to stop by tomorrow for a guest post from Melissa at Raincoast Books.

BOOK

The Dinner List by Rebecca Serle (goodreads)

Rebecca Serle just announced her new novel and I am so excited! It is an adult novel, and revolves around a woman who enters her birthday dinner party to discover everyone on her dream dinner list (ie which famous people dead or alive would you like to have at a dinner party) is at the party. I am super into this idea and cannot wait to see what Rebecca does with this story!

MOVIE/TV

First Movie Poster For Love, Simon

Becky Albertalli's debut novel is being turned into a movie, and the first movie poster has been revealed. It is perfect.

I adore the tagline. It's perfect and adorable!

Ian and Mickey From Shameless

Ian and Mickey are, by far, my favourite part of Shameless. I have been binge watching and have just reached the REALLY good part of their relationship. Things like this are happening:

I know the bad stuff is coming but OMG it is so good right now. They better be together at the very end of the series is all I am saying. I ship them so much.

Truly, Madly, Famously by Rebecca Serle

Truly, Madly, Famously by Rebecca Serle
Release Date - October 13, 2015
Publisher Website - Hachette
Publisher Social Media - Twitter
Pages - 352 pages
My Rating - 5/5
**received for an honest review from publisher**

Here is the Goodreads synopsis
In this romantic sequel to Famous in Love, new Hollywood "It Girl" Paige must navigate love with her co-stars, both on and off screen and all in the public eye.

Lights, camera, love!

After being plucked from obscurity, Hollywood's newest starlet, Paige Townsen, has a hit film to her name and Rainer Devon on her arm. But being half of the world's most famous couple comes with a price, and soon Paige finds herself dodging photographers; hiding her feelings for her other costar, Jordan Wilder; and navigating tabloid scandals that threaten to tear her and Rainer apart-and end her career as quickly as it began.

Rebecca Serle's sequel to Famous in Love is filled with the kind of celebrity drama and swoon-worthy romance fit for the silver screen.
Imagine every decision you made as a teen dissected and judged. Imagine your every move criticized and commented upon.  Truly, Madly, Famously shows the benefits and drawbacks to fame, and is a reminder that you never really know the true story behind some of your favourite Hollywood gossip.

Paige had grown so much during the course of Famous In Love. We see the impact of those events on her within these pages, even while seeing how much more she has to grow. Paige isn't perfect, and doesn't always make the best decisions, but she learns from them. She comes out stronger, and more sure of who she is. She's doing exactly what everyone her age is doing - finding themselves. She just happens to be doing it under the blinding light of  Hollywood. The mistakes that would be a minor blip to most teens are catastrophic for Paige because she is judged and scrutinized for it on a public scale. The most satisfying part of this journey is seeing her become comfortable in the new world she is part of, and feeling comfortable in the new 'skin', so to speak, that she inhabits. It's a rocky journey but one that makes sure she's capable and confident on the other side.

This felt like more of a behind the scenes look than the previous novel did. Instead of time spent on location the novel introduces the grind of promotion, the worry over new projects, and the uncertainty that comes with new fame. Rebecca backdrops this with fleshed out relationships that felt organic to the story. Her connections between the characters are the heart of this series, and that applies to everything not just the romances. The romance is incredibly steamy, and so well done, but I was glad that equal importance was given to the friendships in this novel.

New characters are introduced and you come to love them all. Alexis is one that jumps off the page, and shines just a little brighter. Her storyline is poignant and fits into the narrative of how much this type of scrutiny warps and distorts things. It shows how much is actually secret behind the scenes. Rebecca's love for Hollywood comes through, and with it a lot of depth. She gives her characters and situations a realistic brushstroke even when portraying the daydreams of anyone who has fantasized about being famous.

My favourite part of this love triangle is that Rainer and Jordan have a connection outside of Paige. They have an entire history that doesn't include her. It's also refreshing that they are both decent people. They treat Paige and each other decently. It made the entire thing just a little more heartbreaking. Paige's ultimate decision is one that will not please everyone (no triangle could, and that is kind of the point of them) but Rebecca has done what I didn't think was possible in a triangle - end it with grace. You understand why Paige chooses who she does, even if he's not your choice. Rebecca ensures that you see why this is the right choice for Paige, and the choice is made because they are who is best for her at this time. This isn't some happily ever after situation as the notion that Paige is young, growing, and changing is always there. Her and her chosen boy could grow and change together, or grow apart. It's realistic, and exactly what this novel needed.

This fun, frothy, and insightful look at behind the scenes Hollywood is a must read for fans of CW shows, huge book series with love triangles, and the movies that come with them. It's an insider peek at what it would be like to have your every move scrutinized while falling in love and one done with a lot of depth. Rebecca has written a love letter to young Hollywood, we're just fortunate enough to get to read it.

I beyond loved the first book in this series. It hit that sweet spot where it not only had everything I wanted it to, but surpassed all my expectations. I've basically been pining away for the sequel ever since I finished the first one and this synopsis has me even more excited to devour the next part of Paige's story.

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

Extremely small Weekly Obsessions post this week.

BOOKS

Me Before You and the sequel by Jojo Moyes (Goodreads)

I recently read Me Before You. I am pretty sure I am one of the last people on the planet to read it as I recall it being everywhere when it was first released. I LOVED this book. Completely obsessed. I was both apprehensive and delighted to hear that a sequel would be released this September. The first one was so perfect and I am afraid for the sequel to mess with how I feel about that book, but I am equally looking forward to returning to these characters. If you haven't read Me Before You, get on it immediately.

Cover of Truly Madly Famously by Rebecca Serle (Goodreads)

You  might have heard me talk about Famous In Love, just a little bit. It was one of my favourites of last year. I have been anticipating the sequel since I finished reading it last May. The cover was just revealed and I LOVE IT! It's a little different from the first one, BUT fits with the series. Rebecca has said this is the book she wanted to write, and that makes me even more excited to read this.

Cover of Blood and Salt by Kim Liggett (Goodreads)

Creepy right? It's also a little romantic with the old fashioned dress. Those two elements together seem to fit this novel's synopsis perfectly. A blend of death and love. The tagline immediately caught my attention and it's made me even more excited about this book.

MOVIE/TV

Me Before You movie adaptation

As noted above I loved the Me Before You novel. So much. I found out that Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin have been cast as Lou and Will in the movie adaptation. It is set to start filming in April and has an anticipated release of 2016. I am happy with the casting and I cannot wait to see what these two do with these roles. They are both favourites of mine and I anticipate some pretty electric chemistry. Expect much flailing and posting of set images/trailers/movie posters/etc as they come available.

How To Get Away With Murder

I've been obsessed with How To Get Away With Murder this season. They just had their season finale on Thursday and IT WAS PERFECTION! It was the best way for this show to end it's stellar first season and has me NEEDING to see season two. If you missed getting obsessed with this show be sure to catch up during the summer.

2015 Most Anticipated ........ Truly, Madly, Famously

This next book is one that we know almost nothing about. It's a sequel to one of my favourite books of 2014. A book whose title was JUST revealed the other day.

Rebecca Serle's Truly, Madly, Famously is the sequel to Famous In Love. Since it does not have an official synopsis yet I am going to share the synopsis for Famous In Love instead
The romantic story of a girl who gets plucked from obscurity to star in the next major feature film franchise based on a book and the ensuing love triangles she gets entangled in on—-and off screen.

Meet Paige Townsen, Rainer Devon, and Jordan Wilder…

When Paige Townsen, a young unknown, gets cast in the movie adaptation of a blockbuster book series, her life changes practically overnight. Within a month, Paige has traded the quiet streets of her hometown for a crowded movie set on the shores of Maui, and is spending quality time with her co-star Rainer Devon, one of People’s Sexiest Men Alive. But when troubled star Jordan Wilder lands the role of the other point in the movie’s famous love triangle, Paige’s crazy new life gets even crazier.

In this coming-of-age romance inspired by the kind of celeb hookups that get clever nicknames and a million page views, Paige must figure out who she is – and who she wants – while the whole world watches.
I loved the first book, so much. After reading it you'll immediately want more Paige, Jordan and Rainer. Rebecca knows Hollywood, and she gets this triangle exactly right.

Rebecca kindly took the time to spill a few details about the next book for me.

1 What three words describe the sequel?

Fame. Sexy. Lights.

2 Can you reveal anything about the sequel (a location it takes place
for example)?

I can tell you that we will be spending a lot of time in LA, but that we probably haven't seen the last of Maui, either...

3 How would Paige describe Rainer and Jordan at the beginning of the novel?

Without giving too much away I'd say she is very close with one of them and very removed from the other.

4 What three things do you need while revising?

Coffee, coffee, coffee.

5 If you could travel to any place, anytime when and where would you travel?

Edinburgh, Scotland. I wrote a large portion of Famous in Love there and I hope to return for all subsequent books. It's the most creatively inspiring place in the world to me.

An L.A. setting will definitely make this feel even more 'Hollywood' than the first book. I have been dying over the teasers that Rebecca has been posting on her Twitter and this interview has only increased my need to read this book.

Truly, Madly, Famously is set to be released Fall 2015 and no pre-order links are available yet but do keep an eye out for it! You can add it to Goodreads in the meantime.

Be sure to check back later on during the event for a chance to win a copy of Truly, Madly, Famously (or any one of my featured titles!).

You can follow Rebecca Serle on Twitter, visit her official website, and learn more about the book from the publisher website.

Are you a fan of Hollywood romances, and love triangles? Let me know in the comments.

Publisher Website - Poppy/Little Brown
Publisher Social Media - Twitter

My Rating - 5/5
**received in exchange for an honest review**

Here is the Goodreads synopsis
"A must-read for anyone curious about life and love behind the scenes."--Bella Thorne, actor and author of Autumn Falls

When Paige Townsen gets plucked from high school obscurity to star in the movie adaptation of a blockbuster book series, her life changes practically overnight. Within a month, Paige has traded the quiet streets of her hometown for a bustling film set on the shores of Maui, and she is spending quality time with her costar Rainer Devon, one of People's Sexiest Men Alive. But when troubled star Jordan Wilder lands the role of the other point in the movie's famous love triangle, Paige's crazy new life begins to resemble her character's.

In this exciting tale of romance and drama, both on-and offscreen, Paige must adjust to a crazy new life without the daily support of her friends and family, while figuring out who she is--and who she wants--as the whole world watches.
Being plucked from obscurity and thrust into fame has been a daydream of many people growing up. Who wouldn't want to be the star of their favourite TV show, or movie, right? Rebecca Serle takes that daydream to creates something real, honest, and heartfelt. Perfect for those who love Hollywood gossip, CW TV shows, and endearing characters, Famous In Love looks at falling in love while under a spotlight.

The element that stands out the most while reading is how authentic this novel feels. You'll feel like you've been given behind the scenes access to the hottest set in Hollywood and all the secrets that come with it. Rebecca Serle's love of Hollywood shines through each page, and her attention to detail creates a vivid picture of life on a movie set. It's unsurprising that she did a lot of research to capture this intimate feeling.

There will be plenty of discussion about Team Jordan vs Team Rainer, but I predict many won't finish this novel without being Team Paige. She is immediately endearing and captivating. She's the Joey Potter of this story, and you will love her. Her story also tethers this novel into reality. It's not just a romance novel, but rather a story of Paige's experiences. We get to see the rocky road of fame, and how she adapts to it. Her family relationships, friendships, and romances all spiral and change because of her new life. It's deeper, and more heartfelt than one may assume at first, and readers will easily become attached to all the characters.

Paige's fears, and insecurities are recognizable and understandable. It's easy to relate to her feelings of not fitting in, and her desire to do her best. She's not immediately perfect, and getting swept up into this new lifestyle is not natural to her. She stumbles, and learns as she goes along. It allows the reader to follow her journey without feeling disconnected.

Love triangles may feel overused, and like a cheap way to delay the inevitable. The triangle in this novel, however, truly works. The reason it works so well is the relationship between Rainer and Jordan. It's complicated, and an element to the story in it's own right. Their relationship to each other is not defined by their relationship with Paige, and that makes it more interesting. There is more at stake here, and friendships to be taken into consideration. I find when triangles work it is usually because of the interactions and connections outside of the triangle, and Rebecca proves why this is the case.

This is also one of those triangles where neither guy is the wrong choice. They both seem to be valid choices for Paige, and ultimately, that makes it feel believable. Who Paige is, and what she needs will ultimately determine who she decides to be with. Each of the guys is so different, and offers Paige something different, so it's not a question of who the "best guy" is but rather who is right for Paige.

A story about a girl who is finding herself, and falling in love under the bright lights of Hollywood. Those looking for a well done love triangle, and a character driven story will love this look into what it would mean to be the newest 'it girl' in Hollywood.

Famous In Love Week Kick Off. Q and A with Rebecca Serle

You may have heard me talk about a book called Famous In Love on this blog already. I ended up reading it and totally loving it right after I got it at Book Expo America. So much in fact I wanted to do a whole week in order to celebrate it.

First up I am interviewing Rebecca about Famous In Love, and all things love triangles and Hollywood....

1 Describe Famous In Love in Twitter format (140 characters or less)

FiL is about a girl who gets plucked from obscurity to star in the next major feature-film franchise based on a book #Lovetriangle #insidery

2 If someone created a drink in honour of your book, what type of drink, and what would they include?

Personally, I'm a purist when it comes to cocktails--vodka and lemon, please! But I think the Famous in Love cocktail would probably be a little sweeter than my tastes-- and have some pineapple in it, naturally! And because some of my readers are in the under 21 age bracket let's keep it teen-friendly. Pineapple, crushed ice, cranberry juice, lime, and seltzer! Yum!

3. Is there a song that reminds you of Famous In Love?

There are a lot of them. There's an official Famous in Love playlist on www.rebeccaserle.com if you're interested!

4 Classic Hollywood vs New Hollywood? Who trumps in terms of celebrity gossip?

New Hollywood, definitely. The press is so different than it was years ago. I'm not saying that's a good thing but gossip is definitely at anall-time high.

5 Famous In Love feels very authentic. What sort of research did you do for this novel to capture that behind the scenes of Hollywood feeling?

That is the highest compliment I could receive, thank you. First and foremost I am a fangirl. I have been all my life, so all of my life has been research to write this book. Magazine stories, youtube videos, you name it, I've consumed it. I've also lived in LA, and continue to spend a lot of time there, so that helps. Just sort of seeing the place, the industry, and the way it functions. And then I sold my first novel, When You Were Mine, to be adapted by Hollywood and I REALLY got a look into how all of this works. Also I've been on
the set of a major feature-film franchise based on a book-- but I can't tell you which one. I've been sworn to take that secret to my grave. :)

6 What is your favourite 'on screen' Hollywood love triangle?

Probably the original--- Joey/Pacey/Dawson. But currently I'd have to go with The Vampire Diaries. The similarities between both of those shows (besides that they were created by the genius known as Kevin Williamson) is that the relationship between the boys is a strong, important part of the triangle. The complicated relationship Rainer and Jordan share is one of my favorite parts of Famous in Love.

7 If your main character were real, and you could give her one piece of advice, what would you tell her?

That she is talented. Paige is very concerned with getting August "right" and being "good enough." She was chosen! She's supposed to be playing her.

8 How do you plan to celebrate the release of Famous In Love?

I'm having a launch party at Books of Wonder on October 23rd from 6-8! If you live in or plan to visit NYC-- please come! There is also going to be some festivities post with family and friends. I worked hard on this book and it has been a long time coming-- I'm excited to celebrate!

Thank you for stopping by, Rebecca. Be sure to visit each day this week for another Famous In Love post. Up tomorrow is a special giveaway including a custom made tote bag!

New To My Book Closet

It's that time of the week again. Time to show you what bookish goodies made their way into my home and book closet (to be saved from the evil book eating cat monster named Aria). This is inspired by the various "mailbox" posts out there (eg. In My Mailbox by The Story Siren, and Stacking the Shelves by Tynga's Reviews).

Another week, and more books made their way into my mailbox.

First up is a purchased finished copy of a book I adored, and the second is a surprise book!

Famous In Love by Rebecca Serle (goodreads)
In Real Life by Cory Doctorow and Jen Wang (goodreads)

I loved Famous In Love. So much so that I have a week dedicated to all things Famous In Love and Hollywood coming up VERY soon.

The other book is actually a graphic novel that was a total surprise. It looks cute though, and I am definitely curious about it.

What books made their way into your mailbox this week?

Happy weekend, and happy reading!

Best Of 2014.... So Far

The halfway point of 2014 is quickly approaching and with it many best of (so far at least) lists. Since I typically do one, I figured now was as good a time as any.

Here are the ten books that I would consider my best of 2014...so far. These are in no particular order and are not ranked in any way.

We Were Liars by E Lockheart

The less said about this one the better. Just read it. Become a liar. You'll thank me after you've recovered.

Brazen by Katherine Longshore

Fans of Reign are being told to pick this one up. I completely agree. It's got scandalous Tudor drama, some rather adorable flirting, and some of my favourite friendships portrayed in a novel. Katherine also happens to be a fantastic writer, so the overall book is amazing.

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige

Taking a beloved character and putting a deliciously sinful twist on her? Perfection. Danielle Paige's precision style writing, and attention to detail made this an intricate read. It left me dying for book two, and pretty sure I would never look at Dorothy the same way again.

Half Bad by Sally Green

A beautifully written book that puts a twist on the whole nature vs nurture question. A boy witch who has been ostracized his whole life for being 'half bad' offers heartbreaking moments, and a fascinating look at society in general.

Love Letters To The Dead by Ava Dellaria

This will leave you weepy, and may inspire you to write your own love letter to the dead. An impact debut novel that uses a letter style format to tell it's heartbreaking yet hopeful story. I easily got swept away.

Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

A fun novel that has depth and layers. This one is perfect for the summer, and will leave you wanting to touch base with your own best friend...and maybe write them a list or two.

The Winner's Cure by Marie Rutkoski

Beautifully written, and some amazing world building mixed with incredible characters made Marie's novel a fantastic start to a new series. It's sneaks up on you and leaves you breathless as you feel it's full impact. Book two now, please!

Famous In Love by Rebecca Serle

Fun! Fun! Fun! If Hollywood love triangles, CW television shows, and novels that explore more than just the romance are your thing, YOU NEED TO PICK UP THIS BOOK. The characters, the setting, and the romance all won me over. My review will come closer to the date, but Rebecca had me hooked from the first paragraph. I basically need book two immediately.

Exquisite Captive by Heather Demetrois

Intricate world building, a driven and determined female lead character, and some scorchingly sexy scenes made this a favourite. The interweaving of the all too real issue of the slave trade made this one resonate a little deeper. Full review to come soon (along with some other fun things) but this one easily charmed me.

The Blonde by Anna Godbersen

Marilyn Monroe as a spy is the premise for this tightly woven novel. Surprisingly this works much better than perhaps thought at first glance, and the author makes it seem entirely all to plausible. The romance between Marilyn and John F Kennedy provided a romantic backdrop that raised the stakes. A fantastic beach thriller for this summer!

Each of these links to my review (where available) if you wish to check it out.

What books made your list? Did you read any that are on mine? If so, what did you think?

Weekly Obsessions

The awesome Kelly at KellyVision started posting a weekly post highlighting whatever she happened to be obsessed with that week. I LOVE this idea, so much in fact that I will be doing it myself every Saturday.

Here are my obsessions this week.

BOOK

Famous In Love by Rebecca Serle

Famous In Love was one of my must gets at BEA (my MUST GET if I am being honest). I love everything about the premise of this book. What girl didn't have this day dream at some point? Honestly, I am pretty sure it's a given. It should not surprise anyone that I couldn't wait to read it. I've already devoured it and fell in love. I am excited to be celebrating it's release with a blog event that will be revealed later! Mark this one on your calendars if you love Hollywood gossip, CW shows, and love triangles! It's a must read.

Exquisite Captive by Heather Demetrios

This is another case of not being able to wait until close to release to read it. Heather's world building is insane, and the sexiness of this book is off the charts. It's an understated sexy that caught me off guard. I talked to the lovely Margot from Epic Reads while in New York about this one, and she made me even more excited. Now that I am done though, all I want is book two. Luckily, as I am part of the Blogger Caravan, there is plenty of exciting things coming up between now and the release date.

MOVIE

The Night Before Our Stars

The Fault In Our Stars opens this weekend but I was able to go see it last night as part of a special event. The Night Before Our Stars was held in theatres throughout North America. It was a screening of the movie followed by a live simulcast Q and A with John Green, the cast, director and producer of the movie. The movie itself is a faithful, thoughtful adaptation of the source material. It mostly comes down to the wonderful casting choices (Ansel Elgort in particular stood out as Augustus Waters) and the scripts decision to capture the essence of the novel. So many of the iconic lines from the book made their way into the movie. It's a surreal experience to be ugly crying in a room full of other people who are also ugly crying, but it was amazing.

They also gave us a poster and cute charm bracelet as we arrived. I love both of them.

What are you obsessed with this week?

Book Expo America

Book Expo America (or book heaven to anyone who loves books) is THIS week. In fact it starts tomorrow. I hope to run into a bunch of you there, so I thought I would post a "Where You'll Find Me" type post.

Javits Center (AKA BEA itself)

What are some of the places you'll find me during BEA itself?

- BEA Bloggers Conference - I'll be going this year! Excited to see everyone who will also be attending this event.

- Morgan Matson's line. I love Since You've Been Gone and can't wait to fangirl about it in person with Morgan.

- RL Stine's signing on Saturday - My niece Kenadie is a huge Goosebumps fan now. I'll totally be the coolest Auntie ever when I come back with a signed book for her.

- Heather Demetrios's signing for Exquisite Captive. Heck yes! I can't wait to read this one.

-Rebecca Serle's signing line. I need Famous In Love. NEED. It sounds adorable, and fun, and perfect for anyone who loves Hollywood and CW shows.

There are plenty more places you'll see me. Chelsey Philpot's line is another place. I'll also be grabbing a few moments to relax here and there down in the food court area (at least that is the plan).

OUTSIDE BEA

Part of what I am most looking forward to though is the outside BEA stuff in New York. So where else will you find me?

Heathers, The Musical - Kelly (from Kellyvision) and I have tickets to the Friday May 30th showing of this. I am really excited to be going, especially as I've heard many of the iconic lines are featured in the musical in some way.

Shake Shack - At some point I am going to need to grab lunch or dinner here. I tried it for the first time last time I was at BEA, and I have basically been dreaming about having it again ever since.

The Strand

Pretty sure all the bloggers I am staying with will be making the trek to The Strand at some point during our stay. I've never been (shocking right?!) but I hear it's an amazing bookstore! Plus, Dash and Lily's Book Of Dares uses this as an important backdrop to the story, so extra bookish bonus points.

Most Anticipated Books

Someone asked me for a list of my most anticipated finds at BEA, so I am going to include that here as well.

- Famous in Love by Rebecca Serle
- Falling Into Place by Amy Zhang
- Even In Paradise by Chelsey Philpot
- Anatomy of  a Misfit by Andrea Portes
- Exquisite Captive by Heather Demetrios
- Afterworlds by Scott Westerfeld

Plus many, many more. My list is pretty Harper Collins heavy, but they have an incredible Fall catalog this year!

If you see me around don't be afraid to say Hi. I am shy, but love to meet new people. Especially if it means talking books. Are you headed to BEA? Let me know where I might see you!

Waiting on Wednesday ........ Famous In Love

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking The Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My pick this week is Famous In Love by Rebecca Serle

Here is the Goodreads synopsis
When seventeen-year-old Paige Townsen gets plucked from obscurity to star in the movie adaptation of a blockbuster book series, her life changes practically overnight. Within a month, Paige has traded the quiet streets of her hometown for a bustling movie set on the shores of Maui, and she is spending quality time with her costar Rainer Devon, one of People's Sexiest Men Alive. But when troubled star Jordan Wilder lands the role of the other point in the movie's famous love triangle, Paige's crazy new life begins to resemble her character's.

In this coming-of-age romance inspired by the kind of celeb hookups that get clever nicknames and a million page views, Paige must figure out who she is -- and who she wants -- while the whole world watches.
This is totally my newest obsession. I need this book...IMMEDIATELY. If you love celebrity gossip, shows on the CW, and books this should already be on your radar. It's like Rebecca took one of my bookish wishes and made it a reality. Oh, and it's going to be a series. The only question you should be asking yourself at this point is - Team Rainer or Team Jordan (because you've already added it to your TBR list). *looks at release date and cries*. I may pray for an advance copy of this one.

Expected release date - October 21, 2014
