Super small post this week! I am so close to leaving from Book Expo so that is taking up a lot of my focus! I cannot wait to head back to NYC.

Cover of The Map From Here To There by Emery Lord (goodreads)

I am a huge fan of all of Emery Lord's books and was really excited when it was announced that The Start of Me and You was getting a sequel. The cover was just recently revealed and I LOVE IT!

It has a bunch of little nods to the first book and just looks like spring to me. I cannot wait to return to these characters and see what comes next for Paige and Max.

Baskin Robbins Partnering With Stranger Things

Rumours are all over the internet that Baskin Robbins will be teaming up with Stranger Things to offer some special ice cream flavors, Scoops Ahoy branding, and even an exclusive Funko Pop to help celebrate the third season. Photos of the exclusive Baskin Robbins Funko (which is Steve in his Scoops Ahoy uniform holding a banana split) are out there and pretty easy to find. I am not sharing because they are not my photos and nothing official has been revealed yet.

There are also going to be some Stranger Things themed treats on offer. The event is going to kick off in June sometime and run through July. I am especially excited about the new flavour (including USS Butterscotch) that come directly from the show. What better treat to enjoy while binge watching season 3. I'll share more details once this is all officially announced.

Emery Lord recently announced that The Start Of Me and You will have a sequel! I am very much here for this and cannot wait to continue Paige's story. It doesn't come out until 2019 but I am already excited to pre-order it!

Season two of Stranger Things is getting closer, and we're finally starting to get a bunch of promo stuff to tease the upcoming season. The most recent reveal is a batch of character posters that are perfect. I love all of them, but I especially am into the Mike and Eleven ones!

Taylor Swift's Look What You Made Me Do

I know feelings on the new Taylor Swift song are mixed, but I happen to love it. I have had this song on repeat since it dropped Thursday night. It lauchnes a bit of a different sound for Taylor, but I am totally here for it.

This single only makes me more excited for the full album to be released in November.

New To My Book Closet

It's that time of the week again. Time to show you what bookish goodies made their way into my home and book closet (to be saved from the evil book eating cat monster named Aria). This is inspired by the various "mailbox" posts out there (eg. In My Mailbox by The Story Siren, and Stacking the Shelves by Tynga's Reviews)

Some fun additions to my shelves this week (it still feels weird to have shelves).

First up is a book that I absolutely adore. Emery Lord is a must read and auto buy author for me and I am so happy to have a hardcover of her newest added to my shelves,

I am thrilled to be kicking off the Canadian blog tour for Emery Lord's The Names They Gave Us. This incredible book will be in stores tomorrow and I am so excited to help celebrate its release.

As part of the tour we each got to ask Emery a question so be sure to stop by the other tour stops to see what everyone asked her (and, of course, more reviews of this wonderful novel).

My question for Emery was ...

Your books always make me think of summer. Since this one takes place at a summer camp, what books are on your summer camp reading list?

and her answer was ...

I actually haven’t read a TON of summer camp books. One that I thought was quiet and so thoughtful was BREAKFAST SERVED ANYTIME. This quote from it isn’t about summer camp, but isn’t it so great?

“I guess what I'm trying to say is that sometimes you can love a book not so much because of what it's about or what happens in it, but because it belongs to a certain time or person in your life- like you'll always remember where you were when you read it for the first time, or who gave it to you, or what season it was, or who you were before you read it and how you were different when it was over.” 

That is a fantastic quote, and now I immediately want to pick up Breakfast Served Anytime.

I also have an excerpt to share which hopefully makes you want to rush out and get yourself a copy when the bookstores open tomorrow.

When I first read the synopsis of Emery Lord's newest novel two things stayed with me - the word 'cancer' and the word 'religion'. Both are things that make me hesitant to pick up a novel. However, since it was Emery writing it, and she is an auto buy author for me, I knew I was going to take a chance with this one. This ended up being one of the best reading decisions I have ever made. The Names They Gave Us is a cancer book. It is also a book about religion. It also happens to be neither of these things. What you do have is a novel that is a mix of tears, summer, wishes on stars, perfectly made s'mores, and (obviously) more tears.

Cancer and religion are a large part of who Lucy is, but it is not all she is. There is a perfect balance between all the elements within the novel. There isn't too much of any one thing. As a result, Lucy is a well rounded, and well crafted character. Those concerned that cancer or religious elements may overshadow the story can rest assured that this is not the case. It is handed brilliantly, and only in relation to Lucy's experience with both of these things.  As her mom's cancer returns, her faith in the religion she has always sought solace in is shaken. Her journey through regaining some of that faith, and what form that may take, is threaded throughout the whole story but it isn't THE story. This really is a story of a girl learning to define things for herself at its heart. She is discovering who is she, and that will resonate with everyone.

Emery always crafts these incredible friendships as the core of her novels. She creates the kind of friendships that you wish to be part of. They tend to be established before the events of the novel and that has always made me a little envious of her characters. In Lucy we see someone who has not had those deep friendships either. We get to see her bond with people and create those lasting friendships. It is a friendship that is made from summer nights by the bonfire, secrets shared while drinking moonshine, and new experiences. It is one of the most satisfying elements of the story. I always finish Emery's novels thinking the friendships were even more important than the romance, and that is not always the case with contemporary novels. Her friendships are so complex and developed that they are a love story all on their own.

The romance is pretty swoon worthy though. It is perfectly paced with a friendship that builds to something more. It had me with the little moments they spend together where not much happens, except you can feel them growing closer. Music is a large part of what bonds them and it is the pulse for many of their most romantic moments. Emery always writes these wonderful love interests who are decent guys and it is something I am thankful for. Her novels have given very different examples of supportive, caring love interests which is such a great example for teens readers to have.

A novel that breaks your heart, but heals it too. A novel that will make you cry, but in a cathartic way. It is a story filled with hope, even when everything seems dark. Emery Lord has once again slayed me with her beautiful writing and characters. If you are a contemporary young adult reader and are not reading her novels you need to fix this immediately. She is consistently providing novels that have a strong emotional impact and just a little bit of magic within their pages.

Lots of exciting things arrived in my mailbox this week. Two books I am VERY excited about and some yummy treats.

First up, Raincoast Books sent me this book which made me squeal and most likely annoy my neighbours, but I am sure you won't blame me.

Next up is another book from Raincoast Books. I am also squealed when I received this one. It sounds amazing! I cannot wait to see how it twists the usual tropes and creates something really unique.

Lastly, my friend Kelly is amazing. She sent me some Oreo cookies that you cannot get here in Canada, as well as some fancy peanut butter (that is also not available here in Canada). Both are delicious and I am pretty sure this is my new favourite peanut butter. (Thank you, Kelly!)

2017 Most Anticipated - The Names They Gave Us

Every single time that a new Emery Lord novel is announced. I get giddy. We're talking ridiculous dancing around the house levels of giddy.

I flail and immediately want to know all that I can about the book, and the characters within it. An Emery Lord novel will leave you with feelings overload and I am so excited to see what she has in store for us from a book she calls 'feelings camp'.

The Goodreads synopsis is already bringing the feelings so I am sure the book is going to leave everyone an emotional mess.

Emery was kind enough to take some time and answer a few questions about this book and, if possible, I am now even more excited to read it.

1 Describe The Names They Gave Us using emojis.

2 If someone were to make a signature drink in honour of your book, what might be included?

This is tricky! There's a lot of tea in this book. And a lot of cheap liquor consumed by teenagers around a bonfire!

3  This novel seems to deal with labels, and the names we give ourselves and others. What inspired you to a write a novel dealing with this particular subject? 

Well, I think a lot about nomenclature- the names we give people, the names that feel right to us, and why. I've always been preoccupied with it, but writing brings it out since you're naming characters (and books and sometimes towns and, and...).

4 Your novels always have flawed, imperfect characters at their heart. I love that you make these characters unapologetic about these imperfections. Why do you, personally, feel this is important to include in your writing? 

The simple answer is that I write realism, and my goal is always going to be to write deeply human characters. But beyond that, I dislike the idea that we should only like or relate to or choose people who make the same choices we'd make. It's an exercise in empathy for me to stretch and give my characters flaws I don't relate to. After spending a year/80,000 words in a characters' head, I understand actual humans- who are different than I am- better than I did when I first sat down to write.

5 If you could travel to anywhere, in any time period, when and where would you want travel? 

It is still Frell, imaginary nation ruled by Char and Ella.

6 What 2017 release are you most anticipating? 

WHEN DIMPLE MET RISHI and also SAINTS, MISFITS, MONSTERS & MAYHEM!

7 If not too spoilery, can you share the first line of The Names They Gave Us. 

The first prom crisis is manageable.

Bonus question - This novel has been described, by you, as going to feelings camp. How many tissues do you think the reader should have on hand before starting your book? 

Haha! I don't know. I cried a lot writing it. But that is because I had to confront and work through some difficult things. And if it helps readers confront/work through those difficult things, then perhaps...a few tissues. At least one. 

Dance party in honour of a new Emery Lord book coming out in 2017! I cannot wait to read this while drinking a delicious glass of wine and am even looking forward to the aforementioned tears.

My love of Emery Lord and her books is well known so it should surprise nobody that I am waiting on her newest release. I've been told this is Emery's version of taking us to 'feelings camp' and I could not be more excited. I love her characters, and how insightful and thoughtful her writing is.

The wait for this one is going to be torture because it is not coming out until May of 2017.

It is no secret that I adore Emery Lord's books, so a new release from her is exciting news.

Her next book just had the cover revealed and I love it so much.

The colour scheme is amazing and I love how it immediately catches your eye. It's colours are bolder than you would expect at first as I could easily see this in lighter pastel colours as well. As pretty as the cover is I am the most excited for the story that will be inbetween the cover.

First Look At Beauty And The Beast

StichKingdom released these first look images from the new live action Beauty and the Beast. Emma Watson looks amazing as Belle and the Beast is perfection as well. The costumes are stunning and I cannot wait for a full length trailer.

Time After Time

This trailer! THIS TRAILER! I need a modern Jack The Ripper book so bad and if they want to include time travel all the better.

Not only does this show have an intriguing premise but it also happens to boast TONS of eye candy. Freddie Stroma and Josh Bowman are both stupid hot and those accents?! *swoon* I am already obsessed with this show.

Emery Lord's books always make me feel something. Her novels have a heartbeat to them that instantly connects with your own. When We Collided is no exception. This, in fact, may be her most emotional novel yet. The love, and passion Emery put into this novel is evident in every single word and page.

Vivi is a character who defies and breaks stereotypes (looking at you Manic Pixie Dream Girl). At first glance you see her as one thing, but as the story deepens and you get to know this complex, messy, incredible character those preconceived notions are quickly proven wrong. She's more than just the girl with red lipstick that seems to be there only to further Jonah's story. She's so much more than that. She's inspiring, and frustrating. She's reckless, and fun, and wild. She loves fiercely, and lives her days fully. She's flawed and imperfect but that is what makes her shine. She quickly became one of my favourite characters simply because she's so nuanced, and well written.

Jonah is the definition of book boyfriend material. He is sweet, kind, and patient. While Vivi shines a little brighter, it's Jonah's loyalty and kindness that melts your heart. He is a good guy, and that is so refreshing when most of the romances in Young Adult contain worrisome elements. Jonah is the guy girls should want to be with. His family is just as easy to fall in love with and showcase Emery Lord's ability to write these entirely captivating background characters that make you want to beg for a story about them. It's a theme with her previous novels including incredible side characters as well.

There is a theme of claiming your days to this novel. I love this idea. When struggling with a mental illness you may not have control over everything, but what you do have control over is what it means for you and your life. In other words, how it defines you. You can seek support from family, friends and doctors. You can find solace in the little victories. The novel celebrates the fact that sometimes little victories are enough, and that they can be celebrated as much as the big ones. This novel advocates self care as a vital and necessary part to claiming your days. Whatever you need for yourself, and whatever makes you comfortable, happy, or strong is worthy of celebrating (even if the only thing that day happens to be the perfect shade of red lipstick).

There is a scene where a character says the following

"This is going to ruin a few days. It might make some weeks harder. A few hard weeks in a great, big life. You can do that. We can do that."

This is the crux of the entire way of how this novel looks at mental illness. It's sometimes tough, but the right support can make all the difference. The use of the word WE in that line stood out to me. WE can do that. It makes the point of how important support really is beautifully and subtly. 

The romance is the definition of #relationshipgoals. It's the stuff of romance movies. It makes you ache for this kind of love, and want to not settle for any It also feels realistic and plausible, which isn't always the case in Young Adult novels. The chemistry between Jonah and Vivi is undeniable. Their romance is one of inside jokes, past lives, late nights at the beach, surprises, and that dizzy head over heels feeling you get while first falling in love. Your mind and heart are both capable of leaping before you're ready and charting an unexpected (and sometimes messy) path. This novel perfectly captures how messy and encompassing both of these can be.

There is a realistic feel to this entire novel. The ending is perhaps my most favourite, simply because it feels honest. It feels true. Saying anything else would be too much of a spoiler, but Emery gives you the ending the story needs, regardless of what your heart might want.

Emery has written an emotionally touching and heartfelt read whose characters resonate deeply with you. It's the story of a boy and a girl and the summer they fall in love. Its the story of claiming your days. It also happens to be my favourite Emery Lord book to date. It made me want to find the perfect shade of red lipstick, take a few chances, and enjoy each and every day to the fullest that I can. My words are not nearly adequate enough to express my love for this novel so I'll simply conclude this by telling everyone to read it. Read it and fall in love with Vivi and Jonah's love story. Read it and becomes an Emery Lord fangirl for life.

A new year and a bunch of amazing things have already been revealed/announced. 2016 is shaping up to be incredible for fans of books, movies, and TV! Here are some of the things I am obsessed with this week...

Cover for Marissa Meyer's Heartless (goodreads)

I have been really excited about this title since I first heard about it. I am really excited that we have a cove for it now, and that it also happens to be a fantastic cover.

Stunning right? I love how it reminds me of the Queen of Hearts but is clearly THIS version of the Queen of Hearts. I cannot wait to see what turns her into the Queen we love to hate in Alice in Wonderland (and for all the other Wonderland characters who will make an appearance).

TV/MOVIE

Bates Motel Season 4 Premiere Date

Very excited that Bates Motel will return on March 7th. I cannot wait to check back in and see the incredible performance that, I am sure, Freddie Highmore will give. If you're not already obsessed with this show make sure you catch up in time for the new season.

Finn Wittrock's dual roles in Abe

Forbes announced that Finn Wittrock has signed on to play two roles in a new movie entitled Abe. One character is a sexy rock-star bad boy  named Logan, and the other is a sexy (because Finn Wittrock) introvert named Abe who spends most of his time playing video games. The catch? Logan only exists in Abe's imagination. Apparently they were going to cast two different actors for the roles until Finn auditioned for both. To say that I am excited for this movie is an understatement. I am already desperate for a trailer and more details.

I have already devoured and loved Emery Lord's newest novel. Vivi and her story are unforgettable. It's a beautifully written, thoughtful book and I was ridiculously thrilled to see this pre-order campaign pop up. How amazing are these postcards?!

I love Emery Lord's books and did not have this one in hardcover so I was thrilled to get it. She also sent me one of our Sisterhood of the Travelling Bookclub selection - My Cousin Rachel. We totally selected My Cousin Rachel because Sam Claflin is set to star in the movie adaptation.

I had received the next item quite a bit ago but since I was giving Christy a set for her Christmas gift I had to wait until she had gotten and opened her package. She has, and so I can share these amazing bookmarks!

They are Lou and Will from Me Before You and were made by the talented Nickysea at Magicbookmarks over on Etsy. She was a pleasure to deal with and really quick to complete a custom order. I love that Lou is wearing the bumblebee tights!

2016 Most Anticipated - When We Collided

I saved one of the final spots in my 2016 Most Anticipated event for this book. I've had the chance to read it, and every single thing about it will linger after you've finished. It's a book that breaks your heart and mends it. It's a book that leaves you devastated, but also leaves you soaring. It has nabbed the spot of favourite book by this particular author by a landslide.

Emery kindly took some time to answer a few of my questions and share what drink she thinks pairs nicely with When We Collided (among other things).

2 If someone were to make a signature drink in honour of your book, what might be included? 

I think sparkling basil lemonade. Sunny tart lemonade for Viv- earthy, versatile basil for Jonah.

3 Your blog post about what inspired this book was incredible. You mentioned wanting to drive back stereotypes, shame and silence by using words. What do you feel makes words the best way to fight these? 

Thanks! There's a lot of private suffering with mental illness- not just those who are trying to navigate it, but their loved ones too. It's like a different language that you speak only with family, closest friends. But the truth is that SO MANY people speak it. To find out who, sometimes you have to say a word in that language first- "depression" or "lithium" or "manic episode." When you realize how many people deeply understand- or have experienced- what you've been through, you feel less alone. And for people who don't know the language? Seeing how many people speak it gives them a sense of how diverse the population of mental illness is.

4 Let us in on one secret about one of your characters. 

It's not really a SECRET, but...in my mind, my characters all live in the same universe, so they could conceivably meet. And a few do, in the bonus material I wrote for The Start of Me & You paperback!

5 If you could travel to anywhere, in any time period, when and where would you want travel?

ANYWHERE? Frell, to hang out with Ella and Prince Char :)

6 What three things do you need while revising?

Her answer to question 3 should be flashing and starred but just go back and read it again if you skimmed. This is why this novel is so important. On a different note - how can you not love her answer of Frell?! Emery's also the only author to choose a literary place to go to (and I did say anywhere).

Summer Reading

It's a proven fact that summer and reading are meant for each other. There's nothing better than a great mystery while by the pool, spending a lazy day lost in a fantastic contemporary or devouring a fantasy while also devouring ice cream.

I am going to let you know what will be in my beach tote this summer, and offer up a few suggestions if you're looking for books to stash in yours!

MY PICKS FOR SUMMER READS

Here are some books you should check out if you haven't already read them! I loved all of them and any of them would make great summer reads.

1 Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

This is a perfect mystery/thriller that will keep you guessing. It's totally the type of book that is pretty much a sunburn waiting to happen. You'll becomes obsessed with Nick, Amy, and what really happened. Afterwards, be sure to check out the movie! One of my favourite book to movie adaptations ever.

2 Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

A sweet, fun read that has a lot of depth. This one will make you want to create some lists of your own for your friends. I totally made a "How To Have The Best Summer Ever" list for one of my friends after reading this one. You'll fall for the characters, the soundtrack (that can totally be the music of your summer) and Morgan's writing. Her other novels are just as amazing if you're looking for more after finishing this one.

3 Tarnish by Katherine Longshore

The entire Royal Circle 'series' should be on this list. Tarnish just happens to be my favourite as I adore Anne Boleyn and Katherine's portrayal of Anne is one of my favourites (EVER). Her writing is beautiful, and fans of Reign will love the Tudor court drama and romance that graces these pages.

4 Stolen by Lucy Christopher

This book will never not be on a list like this from me. It's one of my most favourite books, and one I tell everyone to read. The letter style format works wonderfully for this story of a girl writing to her kidnapper. It's a clever, well written look at what might be Stockholm Syndrome (or what could be something else entirely). One thing is for sure however, you'll never forget Gemma and Ty's story.

5 Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

I feel like this should come with a warning - you will need tissues to make it through this one. The beautiful story of Will and Lou. A young man who feels he has nothing left to live for after an accident leaves him paralysed and the young woman hired to help him. It's a story that poses many thought provoking questions and is the perfect book for when you're looking for something a little different than the usual beach read.

6 The Royal We by Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan 

If you're obsessed with all things relating to the royal family, you'll want to devour this book. It's fun, charming, and has just the right amount of romance and drama. An often funny, but touching, love story filled with some unforgettable characters. You'll close this one praying for a companion novel that focuses on Freddie as you'll be dying to enter this world again.

7 The Start of Me and You by Emery Lord

I could easily also recommend Open Road Summer by Emery Lord (so totally read both). The Start Of Me And You earns bonus points for it's clever nod to Pride and Prejudice, and the most adorable romance I've read in a while. It's a feel good read that will leave you feeling happy, and ready to try a few new things yourself.

8 Just One Day/Just One Year by Gayle Forman

This will make you want to pack your bags and head to Europe on a summer vacation. It's a lighter read mixed in with some pretty deep topics and all with the classic Gayle Forman romance. A story of a girl who agrees to spend one day in Paris with a cute guy she just meets ends up being about much more than the romance. Fall in love with Europe, and these characters as you follow first Allyson and then Willem on their journeys to where they are supposed to be.

9 Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

This novel is seriously on fire. It is the next big thing in YA as evident by it's impressive debut on the New York Time's bestseller lists at number one. It's got a movie in the works, and it honestly could be the next big YA series adaptations. A novel that promises that anyone can betray anyone will leave you turning the pages (and most likely sunburned in the process) as you become engrossed in Mare's world.

10 Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson

Another novel that will always be on these kinds of list for me. A beautifully written take on the Peter Pan tale that asks what if before Wendy entered the picture, Peter was in love with the girl with the crow feathers in her hair (that would be Tiger Lily). An often heartbreaking story that touched me, and remains one of my favourite Peter Pan retellings ever.


WHAT I AM READING

Here are the books I am going to be enjoying in the summer sun! So excited about all of these!

1 Dumplin' by Julie Murphy

Pretty much every person I know that has read this has gushed. Not just a little, but A LOT. I am hoping to get to it ASAP because I am not sure I can wait much longer.

2 Tonight The Streets Are Ours by Leila Sales

I am extremely curious about this one, and I am a sucker for the whole 'one magical night' aspect of the storyline, and am even more intrigued that this one seems to have a twist that perhaps it's not what it first appears. I am sure it'll be fantastic as I've heard nothing by raves about her first novel.

3 The Rest Of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness

Described as Buffy The Vampire Slayer but from the perspective of the 'non chosen' students. It's basically the story of the kids who just want to go to prom without their school being attacked by vampires (or similar) and I think it sounds hilarious. I've never read anything by Patrick Ness before but he made me want to bump this one up during his panel at Book Con this year.

4 The Young Elites by Marie Lu

I have had this one on my list for a long time now, and I keep hearing how amazing it is. I am finally going to read it this summer. I've been told to have wine ready (and possibly chocolate) so I am going to be sure to stock up before diving in.

5 Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren

I've been told I have to read this from Emilie and Katie. It sounds sexy, fun and a great beach book. I am considering binging all the books that are out right now in time for the next one.

I love Emery's previous books. She's an amazing new voice in the contemporary YA genre. This novel sounds equally amazing and I LOVED her blog post about this book and the inspiration behind it.

The wait for April 5th, however, is going to be excruciating.

Are you a Jane or an Elizabeth? Every book lover knows this question is referring to Pride and Prejudice. It also happens to be something that is delicately woven into this story of grief, friendship, moving on and finding out who you are. Emery Lord once again charms with her mix of heart, flawed characters and the perfectly imperfectness of life. It's a story that shows, as Emery writes, much we can love each other, how much we can hurt each other, and everything in between.

There is a saying that life is what happens when you're busy making other plans. Paige's life has run off her intended course multiple times. This novel focuses on her plan to get back to normalcy after the death of her boyfriend. As things derail from her carefully laid plan, both Paige and the reader, see that it's the journey that makes the end result so worthwhile.

There are many stages of grief. The one painted within these pages is not the raw, consuming early stages. It is not even the wistful fondness that can only be brought from time and healing. It is instead the guilt ridden, sneak up on you when you least expect it, lingering kind. Paige is removed enough that she isn't frozen in grief and wants to get back to living her life, but living feels like betrayal. Happy moments can be yanked away by the reminder that Aaron will never experience these moments. It's the kind that lingers, almost a dull ache, until you are slammed with the wave of pain again. This novel examines the 'learning to live with grief' part of losing someone. You never get over it, and it never fully goes away. It just gets easier to handle with each day that passes. Emery Lord has captured that in between stage masterfully and with tenderness.

Defining herself is a huge part of Paige's journey. Part of the struggle back from grief for her isn't returning to who she thinks she should be, but finding out who she really is now after these life altering experiences. Hence the question of whether she is an Elizabeth or a Jane. We often don't see ourselves clearly, and this novel captures that with pure honesty. It, sometimes, takes help from those we care about to help shine a light on who we are. The connections in this novel are so beautiful, complex and real that it left me aching. The group of friends that Paige has, in particular, left me wanting a group of friends who were that close. A group that knew each other that well, who would do anything for you, and who supports you implicitly. Emery Lord always leads with the friendship in her novels, rather than the romance, and this may even be a better developed friendship than the one found in Open Road Summer. You instantly believe their history, and bond. It is a friendship that is Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants level of amazingness, especially in terms of their best friends forever connection.

For all the friendship feelings to be found within this novel, there are plenty of swoons to be had as well. The connection between Max and Paige starts out as friendship first. This happens to be one of my favourite romantic tropes, and I loved the foundation this one was built upon. As a reader there is nothing more satisfying than getting to see the characters fall for each other on the page, and that is exactly what you experience in The Start of Me and You. You get to see all the sweet, cute, delicious moments that come between the friendship and the possibility of something more. There may also happen to be a pretty hot scene in a closet, just saying.

Emery Lord has cemented her status as a must read author with her second novel. The Start of Me and You is brimming with friendship, laughter, character growth, romance and a wide range of emotions. Those who adored Open Road Summer will be floored by this sophomore novel. Those who haven't read Emery Lord previously should prepare to become obsessed.

New To My Book Closet
