Month TBR and Wrap Up

It is May which means I am officially kicking off my summer reading season. I do not care that it is technically not yet summer yet. Give me all the sweet romance reads and twisty thrillers.

April was a much better reading month. It was a strange month because we entered a new lockdown here in Ontario and my birthday was not what I was hoping for but it got warmer and I was able to get more sun and take some walks. I'd say it was a pretty mixed month and I am very much looking forward to the summer and hopefully getting vaccinated soon.

Before sharing what I hope to read this month I have to recap April first.

The books that were on my list are:

Marriage For One by Ella Maise (goodreads)
When No One Is Watching by Alyssa Cole (goodreads)
The Duke and I by Julia Quinn (goodreads)

Plus I had some ebooks on my list:

Written in The Stars by Alexandra Bellefleur (goodreads)
Kate In Waiting by Becky Albertalli (goodreads)
The Other Mrs. Miller by Allison M Dickson (goodreads)

Here is what I managed to read in April:

Written in The Stars by Alexandra Bellefleur (goodreads)
The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendrix (goodreads)
The Other Mrs Miller by Allison M Dickson (goodreads)
The Obsession by Jesse Q Sutanto (goodreads)
Kate In Waiting by Becky Albertalli (goodreads)
Marriage For One by Ella Maise (goodreads)

I am happy that I managed to read 6 books this month. It is something I hope to repeat in May. I have a week of vacation coming up so I am feeling pretty good about my chances.

My #PopCultureResolution book for April was The Other Mrs. Miller by Allison M Dickson. The movie was Frankenstein. I reviewed both the book and the movie if you are interested in checking those out. I, obviously, did not get to When No One Is Watching by Alyssa Cole but I will this month. I actually got ahead on one of my reading challenges so I should easily be able to double up this month.

Here is what I hope to read in May:

When No One Is Watching by Alyssa Cole (goodreads)

I also have some (okay I have a lot) ebooks I am hoping to get to:

Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard (goodreads)
Take Me Home Tonight by Morgan Matson (goodreads)
The Sun Down Motel by Simone St James (goodreads)
Animal by Lisa Taddeo (goodreads)
Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid (goodreads)
Elizabeth and Monty by Charles Casillo (goodreads)
One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston (goodreads)
Pumpkin by Julie Murphy (goodreads)

My #PopCultureResolution picks for this month are The Sun Down Motel by Simone St James and Final Girls. I am looking forward to both of them and am very curious to see if I love Final Girls as much as I am anticipating.

Next up is an update on my two reading challenges:

May's pick for my '12 friends, 12 books' reading challenge is Written In The Stars. I already read it this month because my library hold came in. This means I will not have a book to read for this month.

The book for April, Marriage For One, was a read I ended up enjoying. Look for a review soonish.

Jan - The Seven Husband's of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid (Kelly)

Feb -
The Birthday List by Deveny Perry (Emilie)

Mar - Mouthful of Forevers by Clementine Von Radics (Ciara)

April - Marriage for One by Ella Maise (Katie)

Sept - Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi (Meaghan)

Oct -   Among the Beasts and Briars by Ashley Poston (Katrina)

Nov - Give Me Your Hand by Megan Abbott (Kim)

Dec - Lillian Boxfish Takes a Walk by Kathleen Rooney (Julia)

As for the reading challenge inspired by The Bachelor I have scratched two more books off this list. I finished Kate In Waiting and Marriage for One. I should have Realm Breaker to scratch off next month if all goes according to plan!

1. Happily Ever Afters by Elise Bryant
2. If The Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy

4. Further to Fall by Catherine Cowles

Month TBR and Wrap Up

We're heading in to the spring season which is exciting as I am looking forward to warmer weather. Less exciting is the fact that for many of us it'll be a year since we started working from home and social distancing.

March is, naturally, bringing up mixed feelings in a lot of people. I am looking forward for, hopefully, a much better year (and month) compared to last year.

Before sharing what I hope to read this month I have to recap February first.

The books that were on my list are:

Vampires Never Get Old by Various Authors (goodreads)
The Flight Attendant by Chris Bohjalian (goodreads)
The Duke and I by Julia Quinn (goodreads)

Plus I had some ebooks on my list:

The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins (goodreads)
City of Villains by Estelle Laure (goodreads)
Hot British Boyfriend by Kristy Boyce (goodreads)
Lore by Alexandra Bracken (goodreads)
The Birthday List by Deveny Perry (goodreads)

Here is what I managed to read in February:

The Birthday List by Deveny Perry (goodreads)
The Flight Attendant by Chris Bohjalian (goodreads)
The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins (goodreads)

It was a bad reading month. I only managed to read three books. Here is hoping March offers more opportunities to read.

My #PopCultureResolution book for February was The Flight Attendant by Chris Bohjalian. The movie was My Bloody Valentine. I reviewed both the book and movie if you are interested in checking those out.

Here is what I hope to read in March:

Mouthful of Forevers by Clementine Von Radics (goodreads)
When No One Is Watching by Alyssa Cole (goodreads)
The Duke and I by Julia Quinn (goodreads)

I also have some ebooks I am hoping to get to:

City of Villains by Estelle Laure (goodreads)
A Better Bad Idea by Laurie Devore (goodreads)

My #PopCultureResolution picks for this month are When No One is Watching by Alyssa Cole and The Stepfather. Excited to check both of these out!

Next up is an update on my two reading challenges:

March's pick for my '12 friends, 12 books' reading challenge had to be moved around a bit because I am still waiting for the original pick to be available from my library. I have moved Mouthful of Forevers by Clementine Von Radics up to March and the original pick for March to May. I did read my February pick of The Birthday List and really ended up enjoying it.

As for the reading challenge inspired by The Bachelor I have had no updates. I'll hopefully have some updates either in March or April.

1. Happily Ever Afters by Elise Bryant
2. If The Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy
3. Kate in Waiting by Becky Albertalli
4. Further to Fall by Catherine Cowles
5. One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston

11. Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard
12. Open Book by Jessica Simpson
13. Isn't it Bromantic? by Lyssa Kay Adams

The other challenge is based off the Bachelor reality television series (hosted by the ladies of the What You Should Read podcast). I have read one of the books on the list so far!

The list without the various prompts:

1. Happily Ever Afters by Elise Bryant
2. If The Shoe Fits by Julie Murphy

Yup, I have the same book for a few of the prompts so I'll be crossing them out for each of the prompts as I read them. You can visit my post about the reading challenges for more information.

My #2020PopCultureResolution movie is definitely themed for the month of October even if my reading choices are decidedly not scary.

Before looking at what I want to read in October I have to wrap up September. It was a bad month in a lot of ways and that includes my reading. I am trying to be kind with myself and not panic about how much I am (or am not) reading.

Monthly Wrap Up and TBR

So we're at the beginning of another month. Everything feels so upside down because June was a really strange month. Things have slowly been reopening here and while I haven't been going out a lot I have ventured out to get things a bit more, and have gotten to see family. It's both extremely nice and extremely weird at the same time.

Before I get into what I am hoping to read in July I have to wrap up June. I read more than I expected I would based on how strange this month has felt and what it has meant for my focus.

The books that were on my list are:

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle (goodreads)
My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell (goodreads)
Hollywood Dirt by Alessandra Torre (goodreads)
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins (goodreads)

Monthly Wrap Up and TBR

It is now May! April felt like it flew by in no time at all (especially when compared to March which felt like it lasted five years all on it's own).

I have been watching a lot of TV and movies to help pass the time while staying at home. I've also been lucky to have regular check in with friends that have helped keep me sane during all of this.

Before I get into what I am hoping to read in May I have to wrap up April. I did much better this month than in March (but we can all agree that March was a complete dumpster fire).

The books that were on my list are:

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle (goodreads)
Something To Talk About by Meryl Wilsner (goodreads)
The Goal by Elle Kennedy (goodreads)
My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell (goodreads)

Plus I had some ebooks on my list:

The Honey-Don't List by Christina Lauren (goodreads)
The Goal by Elle Kennedy (goodreads)

Monthly Wrap Up and TBR

Life sure looks a lot different from what it did when I posted last month's reading pile (and March felt like it lasted a year). We are now in the midst of a global pandemic and we're all social distancing and not going out. I am adjusting to working from home.

I am not going to lie, it's been hard for me to not see people. I miss so many of the people I care about. I know that why we are doing it is important and that I have it much better than others, but I am not doing well with it at all. I feel very isolated and lonely a lot of the time.

All of this means that reading is not something that was happening much in March. I did mange to read a bit, and I am in a place where I seem able to focus better so I hope to get more books read in April.

Before I get into what I am hoping to read in April I have to wrap up March.

The books that were on my list are:

The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson (goodreads)
My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell (goodreads)
House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas (goodreads)

Plus I had some ebooks on my list:

Interference by Harlow Cole (goodreads)
Foul is Fair by Hannah Capin (goodreads)
In Five Years by Rebecca Serle (goodreads)

I managed to read just two books. It's awful, but I was just not in the head space to read at all.

Here is what I managed to read in March:

The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson (goodreads)
House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J Maas (goodreads)

My #2020PopCultureResolution book for March was The Devil in the White City. My review will be going up pretty soon but it was a lot different than I was expecting it to be.

Here is what I hope to read in April:

In Five Years by Rebecca Serle (goodreads)
Something To Talk About by Meryl Wilsner (goodreads)
The Goal by Elle Kennedy (goodreads)
My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell (goodreads)

I also have some ebooks I am hoping to get to. I am keeping this light this month.

Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow (goodreads)
Undercover Bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams (goodreads)
The Honey-Don't List by Christina Lauren (goodreads)

My April #2020PopCultureResolution choices are Catch and Kill by Ronan Farrow for the book, and Sabrina for the movie! Excited to get to both of these this month.

What books are you reading this month? Have you read any of the ones on my list? If so, let me know what you think in the comments.
